I promise this review is not sponsored in any way, I just have a full heart of gratitude for how amazing it has been to be free and have fun with movement again I moved to Charlotte during Covid and it was hard to make friends. Even without that, it just seems like it's a little hard to find your people coming to such a big city. I didn't want my only community surrounded around my work and I'm not really huge on bars, etc. I really loved dance as a kid and got away from it for various reasons: feeling out of place physically, time, money, not wanting to commit to learning technique all the time and just life in general. One of my friends introduced me to Divadance and I could tell after her first class how empowered she felt. My first class was awesome - I went to the Fort Mill location and Julia S was the instructor that day. (SO encouraging and fun). I am naturally an introvert but the community time where we chat for a minute has become one of my favorite things. I love that we're all different sizes, cultures, ages - it's really such a beautiful thing to be a part of! For my fellow introverts or future friends that like to google street view the parking situation (IYKYK) - here are more details... You arrive to the location and you're greeted in, class begins with community time where we have an icebreaker to chat for a minute about. It's super casual! Then there's a warmup and we start to learn the moves together. Everyone there is learning the moves along with you at the same time and having fun. We laugh a lot. Come as you are! Come comfy in workout clothes or come as dressed up as you want! Each location is truly a judgement free environment and I've never felt more comfortable or supported around so many women. It's really a special place to be. There is a part at the end that is completely optional to record the choreography and I SO recommend doing this, even if you just keep it to yourself! I'm learning a lot about my body language, mobility and confidence through those. It's a great, fun workout too. This year I've lost over 20 lbs and I am definitely giving credit to the addition of Divadance in my life to this! It's a great sweat, but I'm finding more confidence through each class and I'm showing up different in other areas of my life. A real game changer for mental health and I think it's great for my mind to try and learn something new even if the moves aren't perfect! It's truly been a blessing to join this community. He went through the basic steps for a few different types of dance (rumba, bachata, salsa, waltz, tango, etc.) since my husband had absolutely zero experience with dancing. We then had him as our instructor for the rest of our dance learning journey and he has been very helpful: great choreography to accommodate our stage and clothes restrictions, salsa music choice and music edit, flexible scheduling when we were busy with work. Other instructors were nice as well. - Location: convenient location near SouthPark Mall. Parking was a little tricky when the parking lot was under construction but otherwise there was always parking available. Whole Foods and several restaurants were nearby so there was no need to plan a trip specifically to the dance class - just one more thing into weekend routine. - Price: I figured it was almost the same price for a 10-class first dance package around Charlotte so I considered the price pretty fair.

Our young daughter had one class in each building, and had to walk from one building to another - that is, walk through a couple busy streets and a large surface lot - on her own between classes. The business did not tell us that she would have to do this walk between classes, and (more troublingly) did not have her accompanied by a counselor or staff member. For that reason alone, I would never recommend this business. As for the classes, my daughter (who is not yet a particularly advanced dancer) found her ballet class to be very remedial. I would stick with dance at the Y or some place that has a more safe and professional approach.

They are very well-prepared and knowledgeable, and they listen well. They meet you where you are and don't high-pressure you to do things you aren't interested in. Their group classes are outstanding. They will get you dancing quickly. The studio is beautiful. It is in an old building with great ambiance. You sometimes feel like you are in a movie scene as you enjoy the old wood floors and the views of downtown Matthews. They have a wide variety of group class levels, so you can dive in and feel comfortable no matter how much experience you have. This has been a great empty-nest hobby for us!

I don't know what I was intimidated by, it is really easy to use and not scary! I like how they have a 'starter class' where they explain more about how to use the machine and what to do- this is what I took and was really helpful! They also showed me around the studio since it was my first time and made an effort to remember my name. I felt so comfortable! You can leave your belongings right with you, but they also have lockers. You wear sticky socks and stay on the same machine the whole class. It's dimly lit and the music is loud. They do a great job of explaining the exercises and also explaining modifications if you want to make it harder or easier. I love that it's a full body workout every time! I was sore for several days after my first class. The instructor is encouraging and gives feedback when needed as well as gives you a shoutout when she sees you doing something great! It's tricky to park but they have a deck close by and solidcore validates your parking- so nice!! I will definitely be back.
