I had a really stressful move - I found out I was leaving Chicago for Minneapolis while I was spending two months teaching at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (i know, right?!) I had to arrange for everything from a distance for the move, and Matt's was the final piece of the puzzle. They were great! I called about two weeks ahead of time, and they gave me a reasonable estimate, window of time for the moving, and it was very easy. They were also very understanding about my need to pay in cash the day of the move. Day of the move: they called ahead, and even came 20 minutes early because the team of two guys had finished their first job early. They worked fast and efficiently, and were incredibly friendly. The price they charged me for the move was what they quoted me, and literally half what I paid to get the same amount of stuff moved out of Chicago. Remember moving in and out of dorm rooms in college? I. HATED. IT! At the end of the year, I would just chuck half of the crap I bought nine months ago. I have even tried to repurpose some of the STUPID decor - fail. And now that I'm a grown up, I have spent more money on making my apartment liveable - ahem ahem, no more futons, no midge the fridge, and no more brightly-colored comforter that matches everything else in the sardine can. So, naturally, when we bought a house, I wanted a trusty company that wouldn't chuck my shat around like I would have. Aaaaand, now that I'm a little bit older, my joints don't bend or recover as well (same can be said about my drinking abilities). After calling tons of companies, getting multiple quotes, looking at U-haul, and perusing Craigslist, I stumbled over my moving boxes and onto Matt's Moving. Very professional, very quick, and very friendly. Sue and Matt both called me and Sue listened to me ramble off about how much stuff my 700 sq ft apartment had accumulated in a year. On moving day, two guys showed up in a HUGE moving truck... on time! They loaded the first place in about 35 minutes and drove off the second pick up place. Although there was a lot more than expected (again, not sure how I accumulated so much shhhh.. tuff in two months), they worked quickly. The fiance had to help a little, but we (moreso me since I was sitting in my office at work) didn't mind because they got done in under three hours. My final bill was worth EVERY. SINGLE. PENNY! Not to mention, they were actually really affordable knowing that they provided at 26' truck! And yeah, other companies may charge less or you may think, "I can just rent a truck and get some friends of mine," but the money you "save" by the taking the alternate route (no pun intended) will cost you more in the end when you have to pay for: a truck, food for the gang, and Bengay, Salonpas (which actually work well!), and any type of topical oitment to help aches and pains! read more

I had the best experience with Matt's movers on 10-17-14. I arranged my move over the phone with Chris about 6 weeks in advance. Chris was pleasant and efficient and very prompt in emailing me the move documents and contract the same day. About 2 weeks before my move I had to change my pick up time. No problem! About a week before I called to see if my original pick up time was available as things had changed and that would work. Again no problem! 2 days before my move I got a call from Chris confirming my time and it was back to the second time. I had a small panic but really... I can barely follow the string of all the changes I made so seriously....it's all my doing that it got mixed up. I quickly called Chris and she said she'd take a look and see what could be done. Just a few minutes later I got a call from Matt and he explained how they would arrange the schedule to get me in earlier rather than later. The attentiveness was much appreciated and very kind, considering it got mixed up due to all of my requests. Day of: Matt, Carlos & Arian were my 3 man team and were just outstanding! They arrived on time and called about 10 minutes before to say they were on their way. It only took 45 minutes to load the truck. I had done A LOT of prep work for this move. I did all my own packing and furniture wrapping - and hulled all the boxes and everything but 6 of the largest pieces of furniture to the garage. I had a self imposed budget in mind for this move and the prep work saved hours of actual move time and probably hundreds of dollars. But I digress... These three gentlemen were just fantastic! They were polite, friendly and funny! They didn't miss a beat and hustled the whole time. The unload was into a much smaller space on the dreaded 3rd floor. I felt bad - I had about 100 boxes and 3 full rooms of large furniture, beds, tables & dressers. All to be hauled up in what turned out to be the slowest elevator of all time. Again-they tackled it all with a no problem attitude! The unload took about an hour and a half - which I thought was epic! All three came in to review the final paperwork. We went over any known damage - I didn't see any and have unpacked and found none. There was one box of Mason Jars that they thought may have been broken but it turned out was just the lids rattling around. I sent them on to their next job with a small bag of snacks for the road - for which I was rewarded with a hug! :-) I could not be more pleased with the service and experience I had with Matt's Movers! Highly recommended! Tips from someone who has moved 4 times in 3 years: Plan & prepare! I was ready to go when my guys arrived. I spent two weeks packing and prepping and it paid off in the time it took to load & unload the day of! Not everyone has that kind of time but don't take it out on your move team if you are ill prepared. Communicate with your move team. Moving is by far one of my least favorite activities in the entire world. I dread it in my sleep after moving once a year for the last 6 or 7 years. My husband and I bought a house (yay! we won't be moving again for a LONG time) and needed help moving our large furniture (no boxes). My husband ended up having to work, so it was just me and the movers. The guys were very prompt. They were scheduled to arrive at 9:00 am and they arrived at 9:02 am. I thanked the guys as soon as they walked in because it was literally the hottest day of the summer. After three weeks of blissful weather, Minnesota felt like Guam. Hot and incredibly humid. Just plain disgusting weather, to be honest. Did I mention that we lived on a third floor apartment with no elevator and no air conditioner? I didn't mention that until I got them inside our apartment for fear that they would run in the other direction. I could tell they were less than thrilled with this arrangement but they did not complain. We hired three movers and hoped that it would take around 2 hours since it was just furniture. We had most things we needed moved pushed into the living room but they still had to disassemble and wrap a bed, dresser, two large chests, and a dining room table. Despite the heat, they worked incredibly fast and were very professional. Our new house was a good 20 minute drive from the apartment - and despite the drive - the guys got everything into the house and assembled in 2 hours and 15 minutes. To be quite honest, I didn't pick Matt's Moving for their exceptional service and rave reviews. In fact, this was the one time I didn't consult Yelp prior to making a choice. I chose Matt's Moving for the simple fact that they could move me with just 3 days notice. Time was off the essence and I had to move from my apartment....STAT. Even though I was confirmed for one truck and 2 movers, I got 3! 3 super professional, careful and nice guys for the price of 2. What luck! They were efficient and helpful as I quickly finished throwing things into boxes. They took every care with my furniture getting it out of the one apartment and into my new one. I originally asked for only 2 hours of labor and was hoping to stay under that. The guys were efficient and considerate of the time. If I had not packed my jacket and new apartment keys in one of the boxes, they would have been done early. After driving back to the old apartment, I realized it was in one of the boxes. The guys helped me dig through the boxes and search for the keys. And when my nosey neighbor came out to complain that we were blocking the driveway with the truck (even though no one needed to leave - it was 11am on a thursday), the lead guy was very polite in offering to move the truck. I was less polite. Moving is my least favorite activity, but with Matt's Moving on my rolodex, I know it will go smoothly. read more

In early August, I moved from a studio apartment on the 3rd floor of a walk-up to a 1 bedroom on the first floor of a building a few blocks away. The bed and a few other large pieces were already in the new place so the largest items were a futon frame and mattress, dresser, a 2-pie e desk, and a book case plus I had a number of boxes, but all were well packed. It took 3 hours (actually, it took 2 hrs and 45 minutes because it took them 15 minutes to get to my place, but I was charged for a full 3.) The previous year I used a different company moving from a 3rd floor walk-up 1 bedroom to that 3rd floor studio with almost all the same stuff (I didn't have the futon and mattress yet). I had two guys and it took them the same amount of time and cost less money. Also, weird thing. One of the guys asked to use my restroom right away when they arrived at the first place and was in there for about 10 minutes (glad I left spray and t.p.). Once we got to the new apartment, he did the exact same thing (unfortunately, no spray). Overall, the move went smoothly with a rip in my futon being the only "damage". The movers were all courteous and hard-working. However, I'd go with the company I hired the first time in the future. read more

I just used Matt's Moving for my move from one apartment building in Uptown to another and they were fantastic! I did a ton of research on moving companies several months prior to my move and Matt's Moving had the best reviews and were priced comparably - maybe a tiiiiiny bit on the higher side - to other moving companies in Minneapolis. I spoke with someone on the phone and went through my inventory list and they quoted me for a 3 man crew because they had to get my furniture down from my lofted room (a traditional move for one person from one apartment to another would probably be a 2 man crew, AKA cheaper). They called me a few days before to confirm and the guys were on time, very nice, polite, efficient, and careful with all of my furniture. They wrapped everything in blankets/tarps so nothing would get damaged. (I had a friend who used College Muscle Movers and a ton of her furniture ended up getting scratched up, but nothing like that happened to me!) In total my move took 2.5 hours from them arriving to my first apartment, loading everything on the truck, driving over to my new apartment, and bringing everything in. Note that you have to fully pack yourself up before they arrive! For the 3 man crew there was a $150 flat trip charge and then it was $200/hr from there with a 2 hour minimum. I liked that they were honest about their pricing from the beginning and that the $150 was a flat charge and not a charge based on the initial time or distance. The only thing that went wrong was a box fell over when they were unloading the truck and my full-length mirror shattered. They didn't say anything about replacing it or reimbursing me for the cost which I thought was odd. All in all I had a great experience with Matt's Moving and would definitely use them again! read more

Recently hired Matts to move me out of my condo, into storage for two months and then into my new townhouse. Overall it was a great experience. They were nice, efficient and thoughtful. Nothing was broke or missing. While it wasn't cheap - I was happy to have Matt's handle all of the heavy furniture. My issue came on delivery day - I was told they would deliver between 11am and 4pm and they would call in the AM with a more focused delivery time. They didn't call - i had to call them, three times. While Matt himself was very nice, the movers themselves did not show much care for our stuff. They damaged one wall in our old house and one in our brand new home. They broke one of the supports for our bed and we only found it (packing tapped back together) when I went to flip the mattress myself months after the fact. What a great thing to find. They also damaged multiple other pieces of furniture. Still waiting for the follow up from the damage that occurred in March. It is now a October. We recently moved from Minneapolis to Chicago. We were hesitant to pay for movers for a few reasons -- namely, the expense, as well as the moving horror stories that we've heard from friends (lost stuff, broken stuff, rude movers, etc.). Being the Type-A person that I am, I did a ton of research, spoke with multiple companies, and ultimately selected Matt's Moving. All I have to say is that we had an AMAZING experience with Matt's Moving and I would recommend them to anyone in a heartbeat. My husband and I both have nothing but good things to say about our experience. They were super flexible and were able to fit in our last-minute out-of-state move that we scheduled just a few weeks in advance. They were on time, super friendly, efficient, and reliable. They held our things overnight because we had a one day gap between when we had to move out of our home and when we could move into our condo, but they said they could've done same-day (all of the other interstate move companies I talked to would've had our things for at least a week before they were delivered!). Not a single thing was broken, lost, or scratched. They protected all of our belongings and treated everything with care. I was a little worried that they might try to take a long time since we were paying for the actual move process by the hour, but that was not the case at all. As a bonus, this all came at a price tag that was comparable to at least 4 other several interstate move companies. Love this moving company! We've never used movers before, so we were very nervous. They showed up on time and immediately started working hard. We moved about 20 miles, but the move from the time they arrived to the time we were unloaded was just about 3 hours. I would trust them again to move me if I needed it! Only 4 stars because - they called a few days before the move pressuring to add one guy to our 2 guy + truck reservation in order to get employees out on time for the holiday weekend. No problem there, except that we had to pay the 3 guy + truck price. I guess it all evened out with hours taken to move, oh well! We also had a bookshelf that was damaged (it was poor quality so probably would have broken in the move no matter whose truck was in), so it wasn't a totally flawless move. I don't know how anyone could not have an outstanding experience with Matt's Moving. This was my 3rd move using Matt's, and this time I moved an entire house to Chicago. They exceed expectations. As with all other moves, it was flawless. And I mean "flawless." The move was perfect. As with my other 2 moves, the team arrived on time, was efficient and careful and nothing was damaged. This may sound strange, but moving with them is actually a pleasure. I arranged my move with Matt over the phone, who as always, was accommodating and helpful. He took the time to work with me on scheduling the move, went over the pricing and made sure everything fit with my moving timeline. I was able to request a moving team that had moved me previously. They called 2 days before the move to ensure everything was still on schedule, which was a very comforting, especially when you are moving to a different state and are juggling other moving issues. I have also planned my moves with Chris in the office, and she is equally as accommodating and easy to work with. Every team that has moved me are friendly, funny, professional and easy to work with. I have had the pleasure of working with Justin, Ryan, Cody and 2 other gentlemen who are all wonderful to work with. Before they start moving we walked through what was fragile, where furniture should be placed, and where boxes needed to go After that, stand back because they get to work! On this last move they unloaded my entire house in under 3 hours. That is all furniture in place, beds put back together and boxes in the right area. As I said earlier, I'm not sure how anyone could not have a great experience with Matt's. The negative reviewers need to realize the move is ultimately your responsibility; the more organized you are, the easier your move will be. After moving an entire house 3x with Matt's and not having a single item scratched or damaged, leads me to think reviewers that claim items were supposedly damaged by the move, were already broken / scratched. These guys were great. Billing was taken care of up front and at a flat rate. Hi hired them to move my 500 lb. Liberty Gun Safe. The appointment was for 8:00 am. By 8:07 the safe was wrapped and loaded onto their truck. The movers were very police and efficient. Using lifting straps, two guys carried my safe up a flight of stairs at my old house, and up a longer flight of stairs in my new place. The entire move was completed in less than an hour. They took care in protecting my safe as well as the walls and floors of both houses. I would definitely hire Matt's Moving again. read more

Matt's Moving was recommended to me, and all went well until the day of the move. When they were 20 minutes late, I called and was told there was an error and that they could not arrive until about 4 hours later. This meant some significant inconvenience on my end, since I had to cancel plans and my family member helping me had to leave. On the call with them at that time, they apologized and said "we will take care of you" over and over. Unfortunately, after the move, when I contacted them about any "make good" or discount, they did not offer to do anything, and I have not heard from them since. Absolutely the worst moving company we have ever worked with. The manager we spoke to when getting quotes from other businesses promised a great experience, yet we had to hire a separate moving company to come and get all of the things Matt's Movers didn't move. To pay for a full move and then have half of your stuff is so wrong. Purchasing a home and moving is stressful enough, but to be essentially scammed from a moving company in the process was not expected. I called during the moving process (4 hr in total) and never received a call back, but after opting to change payment I received upwards of 10 calls from Matt's Movers. Interesting that when I called about their poor service they were nowhere to be found. Their movers took 30 min to get from our initial address to our new address, which are only one mile apart. When they arrived they reeked of smoke and were shockingly slow. Sheri from customer service was rude and difficult to work with. They do not care, they will just work as slow and inefficient as possible while charging you as much as they can get. We paid $700+ to only have half of our things moved. The whole process was awful, save yourself some money and time and go with a more reputable moving company. read more

I read all of your lovely reviews so I called Matt's and found them to be very nice and helpful. I was feeling totally fine about hiring these folks. Until the movers showed up. I was told I should keep things in the dresser - that they would move them with the drawers in. Good, I thought, because my set is expensive and the drawers don't remove easily at all (not like an Ikea dresser). When I walked into the living room, I saw all the drawers out (nevermind the embarrassment of having your underwear drawer exposed). I said "uh, I was told you weren't removing those" and he said "oh, no big deal...it's lighter this way" Ok, not my point. Then as I watched him forcefully shove the drawers back in, I panicked and said I would do that. He said "oh no, I got it". Well he didn't. I had several broken drawers - the mechanism that holds them on the rail was split, and now the drawer were just falling down when you open them. I spent an entire day driving around looking for replacement parts which I could not find anywhere. I even took the piece to a custom shop and they did not have it. I am still looking for these parts. Next I see on the hardwood floor of the place I am moving out of two large, fresh, deep scratches in the wood floor! I immediately call the guy out on it and he says "oh yeah, that just happened moving the dresser, so I picked it up after that". JESUS. At this point my husband is trying to get me to just leave, but clearly they are not being careful and really don't care. I take grapeseed oil and try and cover the scratches right in front of him to make my point that's he's being reckless. Next, we get to the new place and the first piece of furniture to come in the house is our 1700$ Room and Board sofa. Guess what? Puncture hole on the side of the sofa about the size of a quarter. The guy totally admits to doing it. At this point, I go across the street and call Matt's. I'm hysterical. These guys are oafs and I'm PISSED. Matt assures me "it will be fixed" and that its just going to "take some time" and that they "surely didn't mean for an accident to happen" blah blah blah. Well, it did NOT get fixed. I had to argue even getting the max $250 out of them after I had my own upholsterer give me an estimate (which by the way was more like 450$ after the fabric). That was before I found out that fabric is no longer available so it isn't FIXABLE. Matt's will do nothing more. My sofa is ruined. My dresser drawers are janky. My walls in the new place had to be patched and painted at my own cost because tweedle dee and tweedle dum banged everything up going up the stairs (did I mention they took a chunk out of the hand rail as well?). Idiots. I'm pissed off and I wouldn't wish this company on anyone. And yes I know, its "just a sofa" but when you pay PROFESSIONALS to move your shit, you should be able to expect professional behavior. Matt's could make this right by paying for the sofa, but they won't (my husband signed something while I was busy having a stroke). Go elsewhere unless you don't care about your stuff, or your floor, or your walls. Good luck. ***UPDATE*** I received the following from Matt's in an email on 9/16/17: "we are willing to extend a 55% discount to your total move cost, contingent upon removal of the Better Business complaint filed, as well as removal of the negative social media reviews, and/or update to them, representing the efforts made to resolve your claim satisfactorily, and confirming acceptable resolution terms. Upon your confirmation of this agreement, we will process the refund and the amount $400.00 will be returned to the card that was used for payment." Now, you can make what you wish of that. I however, wonder how many customers are willing to take hush money in lieu of their negative review? I feel like there is something not quite right about this deal (that I did NOT accept). First of all, this doesn't cover the cost of my sofa. Second, if it was JUST the sofa we were dealing with that would be one thing. However, there were a series of issues with this move. It is about Matt's integrity (or lack thereof). He hires incompetent people who don't care about your things or your floors and walls. Perhaps this warrants a closer look at the quality of service the business provides. Perhaps it also warrants a review of how this business deals with customers. As stated, Matt had assured me over the phone that everything would be "totally resolved to my satisfaction". He even stated he had an upholsterer who worked "specifically with Room and Board" and would come to my house - none of this happened. Keep your valuables safe. Can't keep an eye on 3 movers at all times when there's only one person coordinating the move. Came home and my engagement ring and another ring missing from a jewelry dish on our dresser that had already been moved into the new house. Took 2 days off from work, tore apart the house and know the rings were stolen and they were the only people in our home. Filed a police report and reached out to the company and never received a response. read more

Before the busy season . Do not use this company unless you watch everything they do. They dropped a brand new dresser. Put it in my storage pushed against the side, no idea of damage until I removed from the facility. Planned this in the morning, showed up hours late. To where I could not watch if they stole anything. They definitely did damage and they are expensive $400 and 300 in damages ! Beware !! read more

Just used Matt's for the second time, and it was great. Prompt, fast and polite (on the phone and in person).

I used matts moving based on all the great reviews. NEVER again! I let the office know prior about what furniture I had, how many room, etc. I requested a full service move, meaning they pack, load, move and unload. Even though I did some of the packing myself, there was still plenty left to pack. As I've slowly been unpacking, I notice the lack of attention paid to items that are not glassware. They just piled everything into boxes, heavy stuff on top of lighter more delicate stuff. Half the boxes aren't marked with the items/room they came from. I have office boxes in my bedroom, kitchen boxes in garage, what a unpacking nightmare! I 'had' some very beautiful furniture, I say had because everything has scratches, dings, corner chunks missing---aweful. Some of it was moved previously and never had damage from that move 8 years ago. I don't know that they wrapped any of it, just piled in the truck. I just want to cry. The 3 guys were pleasant enough, young 20 somethings. Another problem I had was they got the carpeting at my new place filthy, practically new carpeting now looks dirty and worn. I would never use or recommend this moving company, such a huge disappointment. read more

I've done two reviews with Matt's Moving now. They have helped take something which is always my least favorite thing in the world to do and make it at least bearable. On my 2nd move, there was actually a glass table which was broken as part of the move. It wasn't really a fault of the two guys moving, they had it really secure in the truck, it was just kind of a freak accident which happened. The movers assured us the front office would handle everything and we would have a replacement table for the following week. We worked with Chris in their office and were able to square everything away even when the main manager for the office was gone. Another positive moving experience and will be calling again for our next move. read more

They showed up late with to many guys and a extra truck. They said I would not be charged for the extra guy and truck but they ended up charging me anyways. My walls got damaged and items during the move. The truck was packed poorly and some items were missing. They over charged me and took over 3 months to resolved. But I ended up getting most my money back, but not all. Guys were also talking about still being hung over and tired from the job they had done that morning. Hard working guys, but very unprofessional. Would never use this moving company again. read more
