Review Highlights - Maud's Ice Cream Parlour

There are so many choices of ice cream (my personal favourite is choccy bear, a mixture of pooh bear and belgian chocolate) and nice coffee and snacks to be had.

I ordered the lovely smoked chicken salad sandwich on brown bread with ceasar dressing. The sandwich was accompanied with a healthy portion of doritos and to sum it up,the sandwich was delicious. 5 stars from me, I can safely say that this is the place I will be making my first port of call when going for lunch.

Yes, you heard right. Well, it is a 'fine food' of sorts... Basically that was the only reason myself and my two siblings wandered into this cute deli - the ice cream. We had spotted a display just under the archway for Take Thyme, and a small sign had caught my brother's eye in the process. "Ohhh, Ben and Jerry's!" No questions asked...the three of us practically sprinted over to the right and corner to further investigate. Take Thyme does have a really good range of food stuffs for such a small shop, and apparently these small tubs of the delectable Ben and Jerry's for £1.99 are the latest edition. Despite the protests of "Oh my word, I'm stuffed!" and "I'm not eating any more" a mere hour before, both siblings were super eager to purchase their own little pot of Caramel Choo Choo (my sis) and Chocolate Fudge Brownie (the bro). I was happy enough to remain ice creamless. For the finer foods in life, Take Thyme is a fab little find. That apparently includes Ben and Jerry's. I happen to agree...

I had English friends over for the weekend and we treated them to some rather delicious pooh bear ice cream. I LOVE me some ice cream, don't get me wrong I love Ben&Jerrys etc but I'm sorry, you just can't beat Mauds (not even with a big poke ice cream!) Anyone visiting Ireland MUST TRY THIS! I can't imagine living without it, Apparently pooh bear is unheard of only that short hop, skip, jump across the water, or at least they do a variation of it which consists of jaw breaking honeycomb and poor quality ice cream. Sounds atrocious! So lucky enough I live here then. But, Oh the decisions you have to make. Normally it is without a doubt pooh bear, but now they've started making chocolate bear! Like pooh bear, but with chocolate! What are they trying to do to me! I haven't even got to their waffles, Drool. The ice cream must be something to do with our happy cows. Said friends were amazed how many cows there were in N.I. We moo'ed at a few of them, even offered them ice cream but they didn't take the bait. I reckon they knew we were having a BBQ later...But back to the point, if you like ice cream, you will LOVE Mauds. Go buy some (mine's a cone, ta!)

Over time all the Maud's parlours have gained an undying reputation with locals. I personally cannot get enough of their mint chocolate chip ice cream, although I have heard that their pooh bear ice cream is some of the best ever made. What is really good about Maud's is the portions/price ratio. I often feel that some parlours skimp a little bit of the amount of ice cream you get, but Maud's ice cream always ensure that either your cone or tub is filled to tipping point. A little advice from me, their dark chocolate sprinkles with crushed nuts on any ice cream really transforms it into an incredible dessert!

My friends told me about it and I feel compelled to share the good news! So as the name suggests, it is a milkshake bar... and they also serve the odd cupcake. You can take out, or there are a few seats for sitting in. The decor is 50's diner style, bright pastel colours and really fun. But the main draw is the amazing milkshakes. They serve every kind you can imagine, blended up with good quality icecream and milk (none of that horrible flavouring added to milk lark). The menu is vast, so to take the pressure off deciding, they have a selection of house specials like the Elvis (peanut butter, chocolate and banana anyone?!) Or you can just opt for your favourite chocolate bar, blended up with icecream, which is what I did. I chose the Boost... it was delicious. Straight after I had finished, I wanted another one. I must warn you that once you have visited Got Milkshake? you will quickly become addicted! Ok, so the idea may be a bit gimmicky and I'm not sure how long their idea will remain unique, but the milkshakes are truely delicious and the price is pretty reasonable too - £2.60 for a regular, £3 for a large. The setting is great, right in the heart of Stranmillis village so a handy pittstop after a day of sunbathing in Botanic Gardens, or as a nice end to a meal. Like most good things in life, the milkshake bar is probably best in moderation. But great for a treat, a fun date, or the ultimate hangover cure. Enjoy!

It also sells cupcakes, and I am very well versed in the art of cupcakes! The cupcake I got the other day had ball bearings on it, which I love (I mean, it's edible metal!) Got Milkshake is quite a cute little cafe, with a 1950s vibe about it. It's really small though, so there are only a few tables in it. I couldn't really imagine sitting there for ages, so for me, it's more a get it and go place. The milkshakes themselves were popular with my friends though, and with so many ingredients on offer, you can have all kinds of weird and wonderful combinations (Wham bar milkshake anyone?)
