Sean quickly understood the assignment and made the session perfect. He also helped push my husband into some great waves while still giving me the support I wanted. We also did the photo package. Our photographer (also named Sean) got so many great shots. To top it off the woman owner gave me a hat for my birthday which I loved wearing for the rest of the trip. I came across Maria's Yelp page since it was a 5 star review, read her reviews and watched her video on her link page. I called her at 6:30am on a Sat (so early .. I know ;p) and got back to me within acouple hours and asked for our height and weight to properly fit our board and paddles to us and a Credit card to hold our RVSP for the next day. Maria sent me a message confirming our appt and directions to where we would meet for our 30 min technique lesson before we headed to the ocean. It was an easy drive from Lahaina to her home in which also has her Massage Studio. She is very welcoming and has a wealth of knowledge in her lesson. She has a bous ball to help you find balance, mimicking the stability of what the board would feel like in the water. Proper stance, form, getting up and down from your board to a sitting position to a standing positions and variation of paddle strokes. Also how to hold your board from the side or balance it on top of your head like the pros do it! And of course how to transport your board from land to sea. We drove down to a near by beach where we strap ourselves into our boards and paddle paddle paddle! During our lesson and paddling out on the ocean Maria was taking our photos at no cost. Capturing the moments that we couldn't do with one another. As we paddle around she is also teaching us how the wind and ocean variation can change, finding our landing mark, and what we should carry as a emergency kit. This experiance was so amazing, we stayed upright the whole time and didn't fall once. They had a blast and even when my 8 year old kicked a sea urchin and got some spines in her foot (we opted out of the booties, this incident was entirely our choice), Enzo kept her calm and helped cleanse her foot. It wasn't the end of the world so we opted to let my 12 year old finish out the lesson and get another ride in while she sat on the beach with us and Enzo took him back out. (At his recommendation, we took Enzo's advice and had urgent care look her over to get a topical ointment for her new "surfer tattoo".) Enzo's demeanor with the kids from start to finish was so fun and professional, I had full faith that my kids were safe and having a good time. The photos we have from the kids' boards out on the water are priceless and what set Enzo's lessons apart from others I saw advertised. This is a kid who previously didn't like water over his head in the bath and now he's swimming and grabbing sink toys. His strength was impressive as he had to "toe" us into some choppy waters to get to where we could get into the waves. I'm not a small guy and he hauled me around with ease! I've gone out a few times before but never with formal lessons and this experience beat them all! They guaranteed us we would get up on a wave and my wife and I both did on multiple waves! It was an amazing feeling! We were the only ones on the water when we started and it was so serene and peaceful! Ryan was a great instructor and really showed care for us.
