When I was a kid I'd go with my Gramma to the Walgreens, near her house in San Francisco. It was…read morealways an adventure with toys and aisles filled with candy, chips and other goodies. This Walgreens tears that fun memory to pieces. To begin with there are rough looking people all over the parking lot and wandering through the store; I'm fine with that, I've lived in cities most of my life and everyone needs to shop. But the store treats every customer like someone sketchy . I'd say that 90% of the items are behind glass, even innoucuous stuff like deodarant. It's a wonder the employees get any work done because they're always being interrupted with customers needing access to something. The check out on a Sunday was ridiculous, one (very slow) woman working the front. And, no surprise, she couldn't even be bothered to say hello until I asked her how her day was. She just stared at me while her POS refused to read my card, which seems to be a common problem at the Walgreens in this city. One thing they DO still have are great deals if you use the loyalty card. So I bought two 12 packs of Coke and two 8 pack of LaCroix two for one. But this meant I needed a cart. The problem with that is that you can't take the cart out of the store. So after taking 30 seconds blocking the door trying to get out (and making a drunk woman mumble curses at me) the super friendly security guard offered to help me to my car.So the security guard gets one of the stars. , And there were two teen age sisters buying tons of candy in front of me. They'd obviously been given money to spend on whatever they wanted and they were having a great time, which reminded me of those fun days with my gramma as a kid. So they get the other star. Otherwise I'm steering clear of this dreadful location.

In the last few months I have had variations of the same issue:…read more1. Place order for a refill. 2. Recieve automated message saying refill is ready. 3. Go to Walgreens wait in line (10 - 20 minutes). 4. Get to front, find out the order is not ready...but if I am willing to wait 20 more minutes it can be. 5. Leave because of work or other appointment. 6. Return when my schedule permits...to be told they canceled the order because it was not picked up.

I was strolling around and low and behold... what do you think the NM Donut Kween found!!! You guessed it! Doughnutty socks!!!! Sad thing is they were children sizes but I thought what the heck I'm going to buy them anyway!! I asked the cashier if she had anything else related to Donuts in her shop. She said I don't think so. While i was a little bummed it didnt matter because I was extremely happy with a pair of socks I found! While I was browsing she actually told me she found another pair! Now as you can only imagine I was so so super excited I went a little bit doughnutty!!! Kinda like coco for cocoa puffs! Hahaha!!! I was so super excited I couldn't contain my joy! I proceeded to tell her how I was the Donut Kween on Yelp and that I love everything to do with donuts!!! It was so awesome because she shared a personal story with me about her father-in-law and his donut cologne that he bought way back in the day from Dunkin Donuts apparently they did some sort of advertisement probably 30 years ago! I absolutely love when you go into a local shop and the employees and or owners take an extra step to share a part of their lives with you!!! #nmtrue If you have a chance to drop by the Mercado in the Hyatt I'm sure you'll find amazing local gifts for Christmas or for that special someone!! They have everything from art pieces to yummy snacks as well as tshirts and jewelry!!! You will love that you stopped by!!!!

The staff is super nice, and you see the same faces over the years, for the most part, so you can…read moretell it is a decent place to work. The food is REALLY diverse, with the tried-and-true favorites, as well as some more upscale, new agey things. They have a little bit of organic product (not much, but still surprising for a small store) they have a Japanese sushi bar, though I think they may be closing it down. They roast chile during the season when it has been harvested. THey do it in specially designed, big barrels outside the store and then they wrap it up and sell it to their customers. The variety is astonishing, really. In the produce, I recommend the blueberries, strawberries, cranberries (in season), avocados, green chile. For some reason, those things, in particular, are better than anywhere else in town. I suspect that this store has an "in" with local growers of SOMETHING. Basically, this store has pretty much EVERYTHING that a person needs in their household, including some gourmetish items. STAY AWAY FROM: The CHEESE. For some reason, I have had to return several cheese items. I don't think they are storing it properly. Also, the yellow onions look really tired but the white ones are just fine. THE BREAD is also not great. I've never been able to find an expiration date on any of their breads and I am suspicious about that. But at least they HAVE bread, when you're in a pinch. don't expect a lot in the meat department. They used to have a full time person behind the counter, but now the pickings are slim. The store has fallen on hard times since Covid, though, which is why I don't give them 5 stars. They USED to have a full SERVICE department, with Western Union and everything, but now they don't even pay out for the winning lottery tickets. (They do have a lottery machine, however, so at least you can buy them there.) I think that the pandemic made it difficult for them to get staff, but I am betting that when things improve in that department, they will be able to hire back some of the staff. The location of this store is very convenient, and it is a quick "in" and "out" - which is great for me, because I am disabled and can't be on my feet for very long. They switched from manned checkout stations to "do-it-yourself" about a year ago, but if they see someone struggling, they help them through the procedures. Today, when I went in there, I had a complicated checkout, using two different cards, so one of the gals opened up the manned checkout counter for me. They're nice like that. By the way, in the lot right next door, on 12th and Lomas, there is a small gas station with 4 pumps and a small little 7-11 type store THERE as well - but it's only good for EMERGENCY gas runs because it is very difficult to get in and out of there, the gas pumps NEVER have receipts. They always make you walk into the store to get a receipt from the checker, and their customer service stinks. I just mention it because having the gas station there HAS BEEN convenient a couple times when I was running really low on gas. This IS the best neighborhood place ever! When they're able to get more staff again, when they open up the service counter again, and when they get a real handle on the expiration dates on some of the foods, I'll come back and give them a '5." In the meantime, 4 stars for a great effort, good variety, and surprisingly good quality during difficult times.

I loved their quirky soda variety, and the cheap produce! I will definitely be stopping in for produce in the future. It has prices that beat pretty much every grocery store I have been to!
