They have a number of different coffees, both strengths and flavours, instant and filter varieties. They have a number of different teas too, from green, white, herbal, fruit, black, leaf, instant and bagged! Phew. Lots and lots of tea. You can buy variety packs of both tea and coffee, which make great gifts for tea and coffee lovers like myself! The only bad bit is that the majority of their products don't have the fair trade marker, which is a must for me. They also do other items such as china sets, cafetieres and so on. I bought an incredibly reasonable £15 cafetiere as a Christmas gift, together with a lovely glass mug for £4 and some coffee for £2.50! My friend was given a tea pot and cup and saucer from Whittards too, and she absolutely adores it. The shop was very tidy and the staff were efficient so everything was alright by me. It made for a good Instagram, however, yesterday we went to Blacker Hall Farm where we ordered afternoon tea - only to be treated to larger sandwiches, a giant scone each, and three unique delicious desserts. This far exceeded my expectations and also was quite a bit more tasty than Betty's. Would definitely visit again soon!

It may not be as big as it's south Manchester contemporary, but it's got bags of character. It's more about being a local community store than being a hippy hang out. This is a place for people who care about their food, rather than people who are trying to lead an alternative lifestyle. As such, whilst there's a lot of locally sourced fruit and veg (and things from further afield) you'll also find lots of dairy and meat for sale as well. There's fresh, chilled and store cupboard foods on sale - all ethically sourced, and much of it organic. They even do household products too, with an emphasis on being environmentally friendly and biodegradable. Behind the counter there is freshly baked bread and an assortment of gorgeous looking cakes and desserts. Staff are always helpful and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The store has a lot of competition in the area, with an enormous Tesco nearby, Aldi down the road and an M&S Food Hall practically next door - but it genuinely offers something different to the area and is well worth some of your hard earned pennies.

Most of the facilities you'd expect from a supermarket of this size are available, including butchers, bakers, fishmongers, deli counter, and so on. The branch is large enough to house a certain amount of home ware and some clothing as well as a section for magazines, books, DVDs and games. Perhaps because of the slightly strange shape of the store, the alcohol section is accessed separately with its own entrance and set of checkouts. I suspect this probably makes things slightly more efficient. Staff are generally helpful and friendly, although the store is well enough laid out that I haven't often needed help to find things. The only thing the store is really lacking is a cafe, but given that it's located in the city centre and within a shopping centre this isn't really much of a loss.

Anyway, needs must, so I'll continue as a regular customer, it's really handy for work, and stocks a great range which puts it ahead of your 'Express' and 'Metro' type stores in the city centre.

The central location makes it easy to access from Bolton town centre, as it is a stone's throw away from the train station and nearby retail park, access as a pedestrian can be a little tricky as it means having to walk the whole length of the road outside, it's a shame they haven't made a cut-through which would be easy to do for any reputable construction company. It was a little hard to find staff members on the shop floor, perhaps this is due to ongoing social distancing guidelines due to COVID-19 as I have begun to notice this more often lately, even at other supermarkets. 3* - OK, worth an upgraded rating.

It is also just across the street from Sainsbury's as well as some other stores. So it is fairly central and hard to miss. The traffic in the car park is a bit of a nightmare... taxis waiting, cars not being able to get by because of the awkward shape of some parts of the car park. That is one of the reasons, I can't give the place five stars. However, there is a car park below the store that doesn't seem quite so busy and is great when it is pouring down outside. It is a paid car park... we missed that the first time, but fortunately it was such a quick trip we didn't have to worry about a ticket. Oops. There is a petrol station, which might also be causing some of the traffic problems. There is a covered area where you can wait for a taxi, but it doesn't seem to be large enough. There is an ATM as well. Another complaint I have, the large spinning doors to the store. One of the reasons for parking below the store... not having to put up with the spinning doors! There always seems to be someone who doesn't know how to use it and the whole thing just stops. Not to mention carts and this contraption are just not a good combination. They have a cafe and while it is cheap, I think I would prefer to pick up a snack at the deli or bakery at the back of the store. The store is always super busy and can make a quick shop a bit of a challenge. I do like their bakery and actually think they have some better looking (and tasting) dessert options than some of the other supermarkets in town. I also like their deli... really I like the part next door where they are baking pies, pasties, and sausage rolls. They always have fresh pasties and sausage rolls... sometimes they are still warm! Their pork and cranberry sausage rolls are my favourite! I think their produce area could use a bit of work as sometimes it looks a bit of a mess. I also tend to skip the frozen section. There are usually queues at the tills, but the staff are friendly. There are usually a number of self-checkout machines that are not working, so I usually skip the self-checkout here. Overall, there are some great parts of the store, but I wouldn't consider this for my normal, weekly shops.

One day they decided to stop me from buying more than 6 of any one item, even though I had been doing for about a year or so. The different staff to whom I was used to dealing with was so different - they were rude and very unhelpful, one morning when I was told I couldn't buy their product, I pushed my trolley at them and walked out (without my pound I had put in the trolley). Bad customer service. It has been about 3 years since I have been back, and nothing has changed, with one exception - less customers. All the products were the same, in the same place with the same packaging. The store was the same - very old fashioned and dimly lit , And the staff are the same. Rude, bad mannered and don't seem to have been trained in keeping the customer happy. I wandered round the very very empty (customer wise) store I was feeling more and more depressed and just wanted to leave. I had just nipped in since I had visited a friend who lived near by, for some sauce for my noodles. I picked them up and headed for the till, paid and went to the Lotto till. The woman behind the counter was a little further up from me leaning on the counter chatting to a man. She looked over at me and leant back on the counter to carry on her conversation. I tapped on the floor with my foot and waited patiently. A few minutes later she wandered over. I handed her my winning scratch card and she looked at me, looked at the emblem on my jumper and looked at me again - so what if it was a pole dancer. She scanned my winning card and looked at me again. So i looked back. She took the £2 from the till and I asked for two more cards with the winnings. She looked at me (without smiling once) and asked "you are over 16 aren't you?" so I replied "yes, I am 24". I have always looked young and am always being ID-ed so always carry my driving license. She didn't ask me for it. Just tutted, walked over to the other till and then shouted "that'll be £2". Confused I said "what will", "the scratch cards", "no, use the winning £2". She had forgotten I had just given her a winning card and she had put the money in her hand and it was still there. She tried explaining to me the scratch cards would cost me £2. Anyway I explained her job to her and she put her hand out to give me the cards, tutted and looked away. Skanky woman. I will never be returning to this place. And I didn't win on the new scratch cards. That is her fault. She probably fixed it.
