My partner used other busses as well for day to day errands. We've seen everything on our bus commutes, from screaming mental health cases to drug addicts yelling while pounding their fists on their own skulls, to nonstop to outright bloody fistfight brawls right in the front area of the bus. Most of the passengers are perfectly well behaved but there was at least one troubling situation, if not 2 or 3, daily on these bus rides. Every politician who's running for office should endure a few months taking the bus back and forth across town if they are ever sincerely interested in what's going on in the cities that they want to help. They'd be happy to close the borders promptly and take care of the people who are already here needing help. Seniors, veterans and a gigantic mentally heath and drug addiction crisis. The bus drivers all deserve awards for the service and courage it takes to drive a city bus. Day or night. I mainly can vouch for a soft spoken but assertive older lady w short dark or silver hair, who drives the 15 bus in the morning commute hours, she is a superhero, even stopping the bus one time to ask me if I was okay as it was an extreme bad air, wild fire smoke day and I must've looked extra alarming walking along w my walking stick, she let me know she could call for help if I needed it. I assured her I was totally okay but I was dumbstruck by the kindness and mental strength of her as well as many, many of the other busdrivers I've encountered off and on through the years in Portland, especially tho these last few months. There isn't a lot of information readily available, which would be a big help for first time-users, but if you know you're coming here, you can get all that online. There's only one MAX card machine here, but perhaps you only need one given how easy it can be to pay using a smartphone app or a credit card with a tap option. It would also be nice to know how many minutes the current train will be there before departing by a sign somewhere, but navigation services on apps can also give you that information.

Each station has a ticket machine, which were all down for some reason the weekend we were there, but you can always tap to pay with your phone when you get on. It's an honor system. We tried our best to abide by the rules, but as with most of these kind of public transit, a lot of people don't unfortunately. According to their system map, they have three different lines. Two lines cross the river to the East side of Portland while the other goes from North to South of Portland. The ride was like $2 valid for 2.5 hours.

However, this is the place to go when I need a less circuitous route into downtown Portland. The platforms on this route are narrower than at other MAX stations and I definitely tend to watch my step more carefully, particularly at the stop nearest the Interstate Fred Meyer where large numbers of people come and go. There's a lot of colorful tile work and art work along the way. I generally feel safe here, but like anywhere I go I'm aware of what's going on around me all the time. When I ride this route, however, I always enjoy seeing how many things have stayed the same and how much has changed in North Portland, and, of course, I see all kinds of places to bookmark on Yelp for future visits.

The shelters have monitors telling you how long your wait is, if you have time look around. There is a lot of sculptures along the bus mall. The collection is better then I would have expected.

By the middle of the 1970s, Downtown Portland was dying and not expected to survive. It was the…read moreera of the great migration to the suburbs, and many of the downtown department stores had already moved to the malls. Nordstrom had plans in place to move out of downtown permanently and it would have surprised no one had Meier & Frank followed suit. Like my dad used to say, one could have fired a cannon down the middle of Broadway and not hit a living soul. Downtown workers fled by 5 pm and never stayed late because the area was pretty much "owned" at night by a dangerous element. On the weekends, everybody shopped at the malls and never came down just to hang out and enjoy. All in all, a very bleak outlook for our patient, Portland. The Portland Transit Mall pretty much saved Portland from going the way of so many other cities at the time - a long slow death march into urban hell. Nordstrom also agreed to build their flagship store in downtown Portland at this time. All of this revitalized Portland and has helped bring it to a place of prominence nationally that most Portlanders knew it deserved (there was a time that only San Francisco and Seattle were ever mentioned in the national media; Portland was considered the quaint country cousin). Sorry for the history lesson from this long-time Portland citizen, but I think it's interesting to compare and contrast and see how Portland has become a leader in transportation options. Considering it's a government-backed project, the Portland Transit Mall surprisingly came together in the mid-1970s without too much controversy and has continued to serve so many of us via bus, street car, and MAX in the tri-country area pretty efficiently and with some great updates over the years. Considering how large the system has become, there's so much that could go wrong (which on occasion it does), but there's so much more that goes right and attracts visitors and dollars to our fair city. When the weather isn't so nice I am able to drive my car over and park in the surrounding neighborhood. Besides that this place is just your run of the mill Trimet Max stop. You can travel north and south on the yellow line from here. Getting to the airport is a breeze with a train transfer at Rose Quarter transit center. It's also nice that this train will drop me off right in the Portland State University urban center.

I easily got from the Airport to my hotel downtown for $2.50, as compared to a $45.00 cab ride. It was almost just as fast as it was smart to save that money and take the train. It was literally a non-issue ride and I was there in about 30 minutes. Another day we took the train over to Widmer Brewing Company. It was easy to find a schedule, this station and get over there. Last time we also took a cab, so the train was fun and we had a great day.

We paid for business class seats had 2 free checked bags and this allowed us to stay in the Metropolitan Lounge for Business Class. BC tickets was $24 per person. The lounge is lovely with modern seating and plenty of chargubgung station. Really great coffee station and a fridge full of sodas. Also they have clean toilets and a place you can store carry ons if you want to walk around downtown instead. Friendly helpful staff. The Max 2 hour pass is $2.80 or you can buy a longer pass. They have options. We just scanned our visa/debit and this became our ticket.

Worst mass transit station ever…read more Any time of day or night, there are dozens of people just hanging around. Just leaning against the wall, just reeking of pot stench, just hawking lung oysters onto the sidewalk, just shouting obscenities, just losing their shit and yelling and screaming at passersby, just freaking the f out and arguing with others like them who happen to be on the other side of the street, just generally being obnoxious asshats. Hey, no, I don't want to buy a joint. Hey, no, I don't want to share yours. Hey, no, I don't have a fucking quarter. Hey, it's not funny when you stand close to me just to see if I'll move three steps away because you smell like ass. I will always move three steps away. Before you get all up in my face about the plight of the homeless, let me assure you I understand their challenges. I am sympathetic to their plight. At the same time, though, I am unwilling to put up with their shit, and I shouldn't have to. These folks need to be encouraged to congregate somewhere else. This is a MAX station, and I don't have the luxury of waiting somewhere else, this is the station, this is where I wait. These loiterers, however, encased in their cloud of pot and engaged in their daily dramas, can get their freak on any old where - and they should be encouraged to find a different spot. Encouraged by people in uniforms, with badges, who have the command presence to say, you can act like this all you want, but you can't do it here.
