I've been going to DDY for over a year now and it's a great place to practice yoga for a variety of reasons and I always look forward to my practice there as well as how I'm treated. DDY offers classes to meet all needs, abilities, and levels: beginner-friendly mellow classes all the way up to advanced intensive flows. Students are from all levels, everyone is super friendly, and the atmosphere is warm, inviting, and ideal for serenity. Classes sometimes are led by guest instructors from outside of Las Cruces, which makes for excellent opportunities to see new techniques and teaching styles. There's even a free baby yoga class for mothers! There are two things I really like about the instructors at DDY: one, they're great at guiding poses and explaining them; and two, they keep classes exciting by refreshing poses and flows to keep it feeling new--even after 10 classes with the same instructor, she will surprise you by describing a different sensation to concentrate on in a pose you've done a hundred times and suddenly it'll feel new. Overall, it's a great studio filled with always friendly faces, making it comfortable for you to explore yoga no matter what your level or goal.

The gym is owned and operated by Marcy Shoberg, who is the TKD master, along with her dad and her brother. They are all quite friendly and laid back and seemingly concerned more with self-confidence building than with churning out nationally ranked sparring champions, which is just fine with me. The facility is serviceable although the swamp cooler is a bit wonky and the changing rooms need updating. And the classes are great; my son will soon be a green belt and he loves to go to them, has learned a lot, and made some good friends, too. The only thing I sorta hate about Gold Medal is the lack of free wi-fi in the place; I end up having to flee to the nearest Starbucks instead of hanging around during the class. UPDATE: There has been free wi-fi for a while now, which is an improvement, but the swamp cooler is still wonky and the place is generally in need of updating (the floor paint is chipped, for example). The staffing has also been pared back so that sometimes people coming in to inquire about classes have to wait for someone to show up and wait on them.

I tried physical therapy after each surgery but feel I have gotten more from Pilates. I honestly feel that if it was not for Ellen's individual program for my body needs, I would probably be using a walker. Instead, I am able to walk 2 miles a day, garden and have complete mobility.
