In the AM on 04/17- the last day to file, staff called panicked because the IP number was not included on the 1040. IP numbers are issued by IRS when identity theft occurs. In prior years IRS sends a new number. This year however, no number was sent, leaving me with the conclusion after 4 years, an IP number was no longer required. WRONG! Merck couldn't file the 1040 sans an IP. Merck knew that for the past 4 years an IP was included in all IRS tax forms; they did not raise the issue with me and proceeded in the absence of (a) finding out if an IP had been waived or (b) needed to issue. On the LAST DAY, Merck support staff ( not Shumen or another CPA) contacted me, panicked and with no idea whatsoever as to what to do. What the hell did I know!!! That's why M&S was hired! I spent over 11/2 hour trying to track down what needed doing. Of course no CPA was in the office including the fellow who prepared the papers. Well, I got the info, filed for a new # and then had to notify the staff. To add insult to injury, the check sent (thinking all had been filed, silly me) was never cashed!!!! Really incompetent. I will NEVER use them again and suggest others find another firm. It appears M&S didn't follow through, had incomplete info and almost set me up for a late filing fee.

They told me they would wait a week to see if the check arrived, but only waited 2 days before they sent me their collection letter. The very next day, my check was cashed. For what it's worth, when I called them back to advise, they had the info that the account was paid in full.

Absolutely horrible…read more This was my first time going to Gilman Ciocia and it was horrible. Alex seemed like a nice guy who appeared like a professional but he's far from it. Not only did he file my taxes wrong he neglected to call his customer back since the end of march 2017 regarding the matter. His receptionist was very rude and kept calling me honey whenever I tried calling his office to get in touch with him. Her answer to that was he's on vacation, she used that excuse the 10 times I called to get in touch with alex. Stay far away from this company, two unprofessional employee's with horrible professional and people skills.
