Despite making appts 3 days prior, and then standing there waiting for 45 minutes on the day of our appts, we were just asked to leave Max's Barber Shop. Apparently we'd been double-booked. Which is a forgivable mistake. Rather, the offensive part is that after we waited for our appts, Max pointed to his coworker and said, "She double-booked you" and went back to what he was doing. His coworker then said to us, "Can you just come back on Tuesday?" (this was on a Thursday). By this point in our wait: THERE. WAS. LITERALLY. NO. ONE. ELSE. THERE. WAITING. Closing time was not for 2 more hours. Perhaps some more imaginary people were coming in soon? We got bumped from our appts in favor of other human beings who did not exist. We are trying very, very hard to understand the implications of kicking a two-dad family out of your business in order to give service to......no one else physically present. It feels....icky...hurtful...hateful, really...and sad that our kids had to watch this. We took off work early today; canceled other appts; skipped other errands; and, as thanks for our prior patronage, just got our time wasted and were told that we were not welcome here today. None of our family of four is ever going back here---nor should you. read more

Been dancing with the idea about continuing to come to this barber shop after a few inconsitent haircuts that I had to clean up at my house. After the new booking system I was really skeptical. I set up an appointment for a Friday morning before my grandmothers wake. I get there and wait 25 minutes past my appointment. When it's finally my turn, I'm told that I scheduled with the wrong person and that she wasn't even there yet. Rescheduling is not an option due to the circumstances so I had to walk out with no haircut. Super awesome. read more

It was great to find such an awesome barber so close! Was getting my hair cut by Max when he worked at a different shop and was depressed when it transferred ownership. Then I found out Max opened his own shop! Max is quick and accurate and includes a flat blade shave with every hair cut. Prices are extremely reasonable for the quality. I've been looking for a great barber since I moved to mass in 2017. I've been to several places all around here and never got the cut I was wanting. So disappointing! I had the day off today and decided to see if there was a good barber near me. I found Max's barber shop and decided to try it out. My expectations were not high given my past experiences with barber shops in the area. But wow, I found my barber it wasn't max, I actually didn't get her name but she was amazing. Max is the man. I popped in for a cut on a Saturday at noon; two days before my honeymoon. There were two high school kids in front of me he finished with in about 35 minutes and then I hopped on. I'm from LA and just was visiting my in-law before heading off to Mexico, so Max asked me style etc before going to work. He's super easy to talk to, plays good music, and most importantly, works extremely well and efficiently. He gave me a 5 to 1.5 fade, leaving the hair a little longer in the front, tapered in the back, and faded my (measly) beard in 30 minutes for $25 - all of which was done better than my LA barber. My 4 year old son is notorious for hating getting a haircut and as a result I have never been 100% satisfied with any haircut he has ever received. I was searching for someone who worked quickly but also did a great job. Well my prayers have been answered and I never have to look for another barber again. Max took his time to listen to my concerns. He understood immediately what I was looking for and wasted no time getting started. I am deaf and he made sure to speak clearly so I could read his lips. My son did not require any distractions at all, no candy or tablet! Max worked his magic and my son looks so handsome! I found Max's in Yelp while I was in the area on business and had a couple of hours free. True to the reviews this is an old school barber shop where they cut hair the right way. You seldom find a shop like this anymore. If I lived closer I would become a customer. The only gig is accepting appointments, I had to wait for a half an hour while someone with an appointment got his hair cut. It was not a big deal I had several hours free, call me old school barbershops should be first come first served. read more

Quite frankly, the best barber I have ever had. No, that statememt was not hyperbole. I have had plenty and none come close to Max in terms of styling or talent. I habe had all types of style changes and Max is always happy to oblige, fades are perfect, undercuts are sharp and stylish, whatever it is you would like I doubt you will find a better barber. Great guy as well. Fully licensed and a true pro, he even makes by nephew look awesome whenever he wants his mowhawk! Having recently relocated to Maynard from South Carolina, I was definitely trying to get myself established with a physician, veterinarian, optometrist, etc. Also on my list: a good barber. I walked into Max's Barbershop on a rainy Saturday morning after first heading to another barber that was not open on time. You could say I found Max's place through divine intervention. Great shop, relaxing atmosphere, and has a real community vibe to it. I'm hooked. Max is attentive and really pays attention to the finer details. Most of all, he listens to what his customers want, and he delivers. So, he has to book appointments from time to time - that tells me he's in high demand, therefore he must be the best. So I'm not the one that typically takes my 5 year old son for the haircuts. My husband usually does. I have loved every cut my boy comes home with. Seriously amongst the best he's ever had. And all consistently. All by Max. I did have the pleasure of being able to take my son to Max once . We waited through 2 grown men and their cuts. However, the play area was just what was needed. Batman tower with characters and Lincoln Logs?? I was thinking this is the best place... When it was my sons turn I have never seen anyone do a cut the way he did. He knew exactly what I told him I wanted in my husbands lingo...."#3 on top and fade down all around to a 0". And Max did just that...with a twist! He was spinning the barber chair while buzzing the sides at the same time! It was pretty phenomenal. He's great with the kids and is extremely personable and does incredible work. read more

I had heard great things about Max, so I decided this was where to go for my 1 year old son's first haircut! We stopped in without making an appointment first and wasn't necessarily expecting he could take us. I was beyond impressed! My son wasn't too thrilled with the process, and even with him sitting on my lap...crying and squirming quite a bit...Max was incredibly patient. He gave my baby boy the most perfect haircut, SO MUCH BETTER than what I had described to him, and the price was shockingly reasonable for what he does. He was very kind to fit us in between a few other appointments, and while waiting I was able to witness his quality of work. Max is very talented and I was happy with our experience overall.
