Stick a fork in because this one is done. Not too long ago there used to be ten times the amount of dealers set up there. I'm not 100 percent sure, but I think it has something to do with needing a tax number to set up. Years ago, it was like going to over a hundred rummage sales all in one spot, you never knew what you would find or who would be selling there. Now, it's the same dealers with the same merchandise that they couldn't sell last time. It's sad when the biggest booths are the democrat and republican parties. I returned again in 2012 and loved it just as much. My only problem was that I made the mistake of coming later in the day. The market official shuts down at 5pm, but most people start packing up early. It was kind of a ghost town with the Packers playing, so a number of vendors were gone long before I had anticipated. That was my own poor planning. Again, I was able to snag some really great deals. I spent about $60 and came away with a boatload of stuff. I found an antique German stein, a beautifully embroidered Japanese scene, a gorgeous accent pillow, some vintage glassware and a number of other great item. This is a prime example of how far those with disabilities have yet to come in order to fit into a society of able bodied persons. Here is what I unfortunately encountered today while attending the Mukwanago Maxwell Street Days at Fireman's Park this morning on Saturday, August 19, 2017. We parked upon our arrival in the parking lot directly across from the park that is managed by the Mukwanago Fire Dept. as a means of a fundraiser for them. Ginger, my service dog, was clearly in view on my lap as we pulled in. I held up my Handicap parking placard, asked where we were to park and Gary paid the $4.00 parking fee. Not once did anyone ask about Ginger. We parked, walked to the crosswalk, passing all parking personel, with Ginger clearly in my arms and proceeded to enter the park. We got down to the end of the first isle to our right when we were stopped by a Police Reserve Officer and questioned about Ginger's status. I told him she was my Emotional Support Dog, showed him her tag attached to her harness, then proceeded to get out my doctors note as proof that she was indeed legit. Upon showing him the note, he out right refused to look at it let alone read it! His reasons were as follows: 1. She could pose a problem to those with allergies. So, all seeing eye dogs must be "allergy free", I guess! ??? 2. The park, the organizers of the Maxwell Street Days (American Legion Post 375 and the Mukwanago Kiwanis Club) and the Mukwanago Fire Dept. could be sued if Ginger bit someone and a complaint were to be filed. Again, so all seeing eye dogs must be "toothless", I guess! ??? 3. Emotional Support Dogs are not classified as Service Dogs under the ADA. Which is true, however, I carry a doctor's note with me for just that reason. The same note he refused to look at mind you! I was speechless at this point. I knew that no matter what I said, that this was going to go absolutely nowhere. So here is what we did....we left. But, being that I am disabled, we took our "sweet time" walking to the exit. Thus allowing us time to still glance over the various vendors wares that were for sale. I also, took the time to approach and chat with all those in wheelchairs, those riding on scooters, those walking with walkers, canes, crutches, and the many vendors, of which two had dogs of their own with them on the premises, to let them know that myself and my service dog were being kicked out of the park today. The kicker to all this, was upon returning to our vehicle to leave, I approached a fireman collecting the parking fees and told him of the situation and he agreed with the police reserve officer, saying, "Well, he is the police!", to which I replied, "Yeah, but that didn't stop you from taking our money, now did it?" What a complete shoddy operation they have going on over there! This is the best flea market in the nation. It is well organized, Has a lot of Pokemon items, Has a playground, Sells cotton candy, and fun.

To the lady concerned about the Emotional Support Dog status - The police officer was right. AN EMOTIONAL SUPPORT DOG IS NOT A SERVICE DOG. I am a Vet and have an Emotional Support dog (w/letter). Having a letter does not give you the same rights as a Service Dog. You are only allowed to bring them into stores, park events, hospitals, etc. with an invitation from the owner/host. Mine is also a Pet Therapy dog. Those are also only allowed upon invitation. THE ONLY THING AN EMOTIONAL SUPPORT DOG ALLOWS YOU TO DO IS HAVE THE DOG IN YOUR HOUSING WHEN OTHER PEOPLE CAN'T. You can only get Emotional Dog status with the letter from your doctor. Service Dogs are a completely different category. They have to go through SEVERAL layers of training. They have to pass each test to go on to the next level. I was told it costs at least $10,000 to train one. I'm sorry if you were misinformed about the rights of an Emotional Support Dog. since this is a flea market there are a bunch a businesses instead of one, i loved the variety of this place (its open once a month in the summer) deactivated grenades,spices, some good pocket knives but one problem is the overcrowding that it has it seems like everybody within a 10 mile radius shows up and the "seems legit" nature of some of the goods you find at flea markets, snagged some good deals. read more
