There are very few things in life that are scarier than the possibility of going to jail. If you…read morehave been arrested and tentatively charged with an OWI / DUI / or a PAC, you want to make sure that you hire an attorney that is going to not only represent you, but an attorney that is going to FIGHT for you. An attorney that gives you confidence in their ability to fight your case (win or lose). If you are in this position, I would recommend finding someone other than Peil Law Offices. Knowing what I know now, I would never have hired Atty Piel to represent me. Context: I was facing a PAC charge for blowing a .03 when I am only allowed a .02. Prior to signing contracts to acquire Atty Piel, he gives the impression that he knows what he is doing and that your case has a fighting chance. A couple selling factors was his 25+ years or experience and the ability for me to make payments in lieu of producing thousands of dollars at one time. My case ultimately went to trial. Prior to the trial, Atty Piel does not work with you regarding potentially testifying. He waits until the day before to obtain your testimony. So, if you think you will want to testify on your behalf, you are on your own. Atty Piel will not help you prepare for this. The day of the jury selection, he complained about the fact he does not like "white collar juries". Already prepping me for losing the case. The day of the trial, we talked about his strategy, and he was filled with stats and a variety of ways he planned to approach things. This gave me a false sense of confidence. Once the trial started, his opening statement consisted of him quoting a childhood TV program that always ended with "there's more to the story". However, he never provided more to this story. I was asked the day of the trial if I wanted to testify, and because of lack of preparation and comfort, I did decline this opportunity. Atty Peil's closing statement was about a fictitious river of guilt and asking the jury to not carry me over this river. As the jury deliberated, there were discussions between Atty Piel and the Prosecuting Attorney's office. Atty Piel mentions to me that the State originally wanted to charge me with a reckless driving, however, their superiors did not agree to this and instead wanted to charge me with a PAC. The jury came back with a guilty verdict and was dismissed. The judge offered Atty Piel the opportunity to file a Judgement Notwithstanding the Verdict and I was allowed to go home that day. As we're leaving, Atty Piel mentions how he hated losing to a first-year prosecutor. Three months pass and I have a motion hearing to discuss the Judgement Notwithstanding the Verdict. Within minutes of talking to Atty Piel, he says "you know you will be going to jail today?". I asked Atty Piel what happened to the trial strategy and the stats that he mentioned the morning of the trial, and he told me "It wouldn't have helped you". So why was any of this brought up that morning?? I expressed my displeasure with his services, and he told me I could file a complaint. No sooner than he finished that statement, he followed it up with, "Oh yeah, you didn't testify, so you can't". Based on personal experience with Atty Piel and speaking to other Law Firms since my trial, I am positive that I made the wrong decision hiring Peil Law Offices. If you are looking for quality representation and more importantly, looking for someone that is more than an expensive public defender, I would suggest looking elsewhere. Do not leave the fate of your future in the hands of Piel Law Offices.
