The facilities are brilliant, with warm showers and lockers, although you will need a padlock (padlocks can be bought in the gym). The actual equipment is great, the gym boasts high-end machines and free weights. The staff, all of whom are qualified personal trainers, are very friendly and do a good job of manning what can be a very busy gym. This brings us to the downside and the reason for awarding 4 starts instead of 5. When a gym offers such a good price, it inevitably becomes very crowded at certain times of the day. Generally this isn't a problem, particularly when working on your cardio, but some pieces of equipment are limited and very popular, meaning you may find yourself disappointed, that or queuing for a period of time, but don't expect the person occupying that equipment to care very much about your needs. It's common place to see one person hogging certain pieces of equipment, just yesterday, one person took over the smith machine for an hour, but also dominated ALL the available weight plates, rendering other bits of equipment useless. To fully enjoy the use of The Gym Plymouth, you may have to carefully plan when you will attend, not completely the fault of the gym, but perhaps they should invest in more of the popular equipment to cut down on members' frustration. All in all, I highly recommend The Gym Plymouth, it's a brilliant environment to train in and there's plenty of help on offer for those who feel they need it to achieve their fitness goals.

As a student, the price is ideal and for what I want it for, I couldn't ask for any more. Locker facilities are good with plenty of space (though a padlock is required) and both changing rooms are spacious. I am predominantly a runner and the treadmills are very versatile and, if you are lucky enough to have a flexible schedule, you can almost be certain you'll be able to use them without any wait or queueing. There are staff around to help, though you don't feel pressured or feel like you're being judged. It can get busy (particularly in the weekday afternoons) though it is well suited to those who like early morning exercise, being 24/7 allowing you to go in as early (or late) as you like. Overall, a great place to have a workout, though if you are a post-work gym goer, expect a wait for some of the facilities (in particular the weight machines and free weights).

When we came out of the pool we had a roast Sunday dinner in the pool restaurant / cafe, the staff were very cheerful, pleasant and helpful. The pool facilities are really good with changing cubicles next to the pool and security lockers for your belongings whilst you are in the pool. Plenty of parking room along side. I have not been in the gym, although I intend to do so, all in all a very pleasant experience. The water in the pool is excellent warm an very soft.

The changing rooms are on the poolside and therefore it is still warm after you get out and get changed. There are also a couple of family changing rooms if you have small children with you. There is also a small jacuzzi type pool for adults only but I have never seen anyone in it. There are a range of classess for adults and children available and a gymnasium. Childrens swimming lessons take over the pool one evening a week but it is one of the nicest pools Ive been to and definately very child friendly. There is also a small cafe but this is very basic.

The gym has the usual range of equipment but there is no swimming pool. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the place is clean and tidy.

The staff are friendly (although maybe that's bias because I work there) and there are always lifeguards looking after you. The pool is a 25 meters long deck pool and everyday there are a variety of activities taking place, like... - mums and babies/toddler session - aqua fit - masters (over 20s - non competitive swimming) - Sidvalley Sharks (children to teens competative swimming) - fun sessions (with an awesome Twin track inflatable! Adults can have a go too!) - adults only - 50 plus swim (free coffee!) - swimming lessons (Private/schools/and normal group lessons) Theres much more during the school holidays! Cold, horrible tasting meals which I wouldn't even call meals! No good options either and the best you think taste horrible too! Can't even stand the food. This place is absolutely horrible and is not recommended. 1 star for sure. I don't recommend going at all and they can't even be bothered to make your bed for you either. All these hour lasting activities for hours. To tiring and as I said some dangerous activities, staff speak to you rudely and food. Hell no. Chefs also have an attitude and don't even ask what toppings you would want on something. DONT HAVE ANY GOOD FOODS. Total waste of money. Not to mention, a lot came with and I can tell this is just trash. Total TRASH. did I mention trash? Also, if you end up going and know what I mean just jump out the window and leave. Wall marks to it just keeps getting worse don't forget about the flood I told you about in one of the rooms. Squeaky beds, squeaky doors, horrible place. 1 second and you wanna leave. Woooah this is SUCH a fun idea (although even a few days later I still have bruises and my muscles…read morestill ache a bit!!) I took part in the "ultimate wipeout course", but we saw signs for surf school, mounting biking, zorbing, laser tag ...and we walked past the "ultimate high course," although that looked pretty hideous to be honest!! For our course we had to turn up with bikinis and waterproof shoes, and they gave us wet suits, helmets and shorts to help us making it round safely. The staff showed us around the course once...and then let the speedy folks do a timed lap...while a few of us went around again at a more leisurely pace having extra giggles on all of the slides(!) The plunge pools after each slide are FREEZING and are all greeny-brown in colour but it is still really fun sliding into them and doing your best to zoom around all the obstacles and climbing sections. I wasn't keen on just how much cargo netting we had to climb along (I think most of my bruises were from that, and I did scrape off sections of my arms...oops...) The highlight is easily the giant balls that you have to bounce off into the plunge pools. I managed to bounce, flail, hit my head on the next ball and then pull off a spectacular belly flop onto my back. This makes it sound hideous, but it was soooo funny! I also LOVED the rocket launcher slide - Actually I really enjoyed all the slides. So yeah, if you are planning a hen/stag event or just want to have a giggle with your friends, this is a really fun option.

It can be a bit annoying though with all the classes they have in the pool, particularly if they are not on the schedule (as happened to me once). They have a gym with the usual machines and various different classes such as yoga and palates (no, I have no idea what it is, but I suspect something sinister). The gym café though is somewhat overpriced, so I'd avoid that personally. And the view from outside the gymwow. The fit people of St Ives are rather fortunate!
