We just did our wedding here and it was truly amazing. Such a beautiful venue that the managers let us make our own. They were very accommodating with our requests and helped us with everything we needed. On top of renting the venue for the weekend, they handled bartending for the event itself and all for a very reasonable price. Totally worth every penny read more

This review pertains to using the Maynard Gun Club for events. I can't speak for the quality of the Gun Club for, well, whatever it is you do at a gun club. My fiancé and I found the Maynard Rod and Gun Club early this year when looking for a place to hold a party the day after our wedding. We were looking for someplace inexpensive, outdoors but sheltered, and able to accommodate 200+ people. The pavilion at the Maynard Gun Club fit all of these criteria plus they provided on-site bar tending and had tables and chairs. The person we spoke to about the arrangements, Brian, was very friendly and helpful. He said they were very laid back there and could handle whatever we needed. A few days later, we put down a $100 deposit and sent in our contract to reserve our date. A few months later, just prior to sending our invitations, I called Brian and asked to confirm that we had a reservation for our date. He double-checked in his book and said yes, we definitely were on for that date. One month before our party, Brian called me to tell me that another party had booked the pavilion for our date two years ago. He said they had the contract to prove it and their event just hadn't been properly documented. He was very apologetic and offered us the option of having the party in their lodge for free. I asked if we could put tents up somewhere else on the lawn and he said that was possible. We set up a time the next day to look over things. The next day my fiancé, my mother, and I went to the Gun Club to meet with Brian. Although he had said he would meet us out front we had to go find him in the club lounge. He took us through the lodge and around the grounds and we discussed our options. He didn't seem to understand the nature of our event, however, as he kept saying things like "You could do it on a different date" (guests had already booked their flights and hotel rooms) and "You can do the wedding outside and have a sit-down dinner inside" (we were NOT having our wedding at the Gun Club). No amount of attempting to explain our situation seemed to get through to him. He also was unwilling to have the Gun Club cover the additional expenses of a tent, tables, and chairs. At one point my fiancé asked if we could possibly talk to the other group to find out what their plans were. We didn't want to put up a tent on the lawn just to find out they were going to have a loud DJ or were going to take up the whole lawn. Brian very emphatically told us there was no way he was going to put us in touch with them. As the conversation progressed he seemed to get very frustrated that we were not willing to completely change our plans to go along with what he was suggesting. Finally we got him to agree to contact the other party (who he claimed to be friends with) to ask if they could move their party inside. He said he would call us back the second he heard from them. He didn't call us back that day. He didn't call us back the next day. In fact, we never heard from him again. Immediately after leaving the Gun Club we began looking for an alternate location. We didn't have any trust that they would be able to successfully pull off our event, even if we did work out a location for it. It was quite difficult to find something else with only a month's warning, especially since our weekend coincides with high school graduations. We did finally manage to find a place although the additional cost to us is probably going to be at least $5000. About two weeks later, once our new place was booked, I called Brian to inform him that we were going with another venue and to request our deposit back. He didn't answer his phone so I left a voicemail stating that I expected the refund within a week. After a week, with no refund in sight, I called and left him another voicemail. I also left a voicemail on the main Gun Club functions line. I also emailed several addresses that I found on their website. The next day I got an email back from their club president. Two days later my fiancé received a cancelled contract and a refund check in the mail. Overall, I think this place just can't accommodate serious functions and has no concern for functions that don't relate to their club activities. The absolute silence that ensued after we met with Brian is astoundingly unprofessional. I'm so glad we decided not to have our event at the Maynard Gun Club and I very much recommend against anyone else doing so. (As a side note, when we looked at the pavilion it was winter and although it looked kind of depressing and dirty, we figured it would look better in the spring. We were wrong.) read more

The Maynard Rod and Gun Club is an awesome place to enjoy the shooting sports, learn the shooting sports, and meet some fun people. The club has 2 skeet fields, 2 trap fields, outdoor rifle and pistol ranges, indoor rifle and pistol ranges, archery, trout fishing, a bar, pool tables, darts, game supers, great special functions, and a cool hall you can rent out too. I like to shoot with the skeet and trap group. We meet every Sunday for a few rounds of skeet followed by breakfast cooked and served right on the skeet field. Thursday nights there is Trap league. Halloween the zombie shoot is awesome. After it all you head into the bar for a beer and to watch the game. Best part of all the members are very inviting and willing to teach anyone how to safely handle all firearms. I have been a member for three years and love the place. Come down and check it out. If you shoot skeet come down to the skeet fields at 10AM on a Sunday and say hi. We are usually there till 1pm and we are in the process of putting in a 5 stand! read more

I have been a member of Maynard Rod & Gun for a few years now. It is only about 25 minutes from my house and I shoot Skeet and Trap almost every weekend in the winter. Once a month or so we also shoot 5-Stand on Sunday. I have only been shooting for about 5 years but have been a member of 3 other clubs/ranges. I settled on Maynard because of the great facilities, great people and because it is within 45 minutes of downtown Boston (take Rte. 2 West). At least once a year they have an Open House to boost membership. You can meet some of the members who volunteer to show people the facilities. Even though membership is required, they have no problem when members bring guests (as long as the guest observes the Range Rules). They encourage people to drop by on Sunday mornings to check out the Skeet & Trap ranges. They offer NRA classes various times during the year, the Firearms Safety class meets the requirements for a Mass Firearms License (LTC). read more

i waa looking for sporting club that had many activities above and beyond most traditional Rod and Gun Clubs. I attended an open house at the Maynard Rod and Gun Club back in late May with my wife and young son. We were greeted by the club president and treasurer, who both did an outstanding job of highlighting all the activities available to on the club's 80 acres. That day there a youth trout fishing activity ongoing, and we were encouraged to try our hand at Archery, 22 cal. riflery, and even skeet! All at absolutely no charge! We had a great afternoon as a family, and left that day with a application to join at a special reduced rate. My experience with using the Maynard Rod and Gun Club for a function was positive from start to finish. I contacted the Club Manager, Brian to book the function hall for my daughter's 16th birthday party and I felt very confident that all our requests and needs would be met without any problems. Brian was very accommodating and he and the staff were helpful and friendly. We were able to access the room earlier in the day to decorate and found the room clean and inviting. The function hall is large, but we were able to utilize just half of the room and the party was not too spread out. The fireplace added a nice touch of warmth to a cold night and the party was a success! I would definitely recommend the Rod and Gun Club for any function and will be booking it for our next big event. read more
