Unfortunately with this update Im lowering the 5 stars down to 1, I would like to NOT be forced to check 1 star but that's not an option.
I always spend a few hundred dollars every spring/summer on plants only here but this will be the last time. I spent around 55-60.00 yesterday for flowers and vegetables and Im thinking about returning them now.
I need 6 -24" window planter boxes and this store has the color and size I want. I asked yesterday how much they were and was told 7.99 each. That a fair and reasonable price or so I thought........
I came today to purchase 6 window boxes and I grabbed the 6 planters and the 6 trays that go with them.
I told the cashier I had 6 and she said she counted 5. I ran to grab another one while she rang up the planters. To my surprise she said the trays are an extra 3.99 EACH. Thats another 24.00 on top of the 48.00 for a total of 72.00 plus tax for 6 cheap plastic planters and trays. Ridiculous!!!! Thats basically highway robbery.
One of the employees said they have always sold the planter trays separately but in my 45 years of gardening, I've never ever had to buy the trays separately.
I mean seriously, that has got to be the dumbest thing I've heard in a long time. The planter is literally useless without the tray. Sure, you can plant flowers in it but without the tray, its no good. Once you water the plants, the tray catches the water to keep the roots moist and the plants viable and living. Without the tray, the water drains right out and unless you check the planter every single day and twice a day when its above 90 degrees.....the plants will die.
I asked the cashier why dont they just tell customers the planter box and tray is 12.00 instead of 7.99 and then spring the extra 4.00 for the tray at the last minute.......she looked a bit confused and mumbled something about the manager and started to ring up the next customer, smdh
In addition to the 6 planters, I was going to buy 12 bags of top soil and have them delivered. That should cost 36.00 for the dirt at approximately 3.00 a bag and 5.00 delivery fee.
This obviously didnt happen.
I also bought 3 cans of krylon spray paint (13.00) that appeared to be 4.59 minus 30 percent. But that price was actually 5.99 minus 30 percent. They need to put the proper shelf tag by the correct item. I bought those because I really need them.
Im so disappointed in this store that want I want to return the 4 flats of vegetables (13.99 each) and flowers that I bought yesterday.
I asked if I could return the 4 flats and at first was told that I probably cant but the guy checked with the manager.....I can return them
But due to the dismissive, cavalier, too bad for you (me), sucks to be you (me) attitude displayed by both cashiers and 3 different employees, Im returning the 4 flats of plant and the 3 cans of spray paint.
But I bet by tomorrow they will say the 4 flats of plants can't be returned or the 3 cans of spray paint, especially when they read this review :)
Now I have to find another hardware store for all my home improvement needs, new locks/ keys (Im the property manager for 8 apartments) and another place to buy my flowers, vegetables and herbs each year.
This is very disheartening because I dont drive and this place is within walking distance to my house.
I've lived in this area for almost 10 years. When this store was Brown Hardware ( family owned) and not a franchised Ace Hardware store....they would have never treated a customer with such appalling behavior and poor customer service. Basically the same employees are still there as when it was Browns but with a few new faces added.
After Hurricane Sandy swept through our area, they struggled to stay open and finally closed for renovations. They re-opened as Ace Mazzone Hardware and all of Browns Hardware stores loyal customers (including myself) flocked back happily. I see now that was a big...huge mistake. I should have stayed with the 2 national chain stores that everyone was forced to use.
Not that Ace Mazzone Hardware will care but they have lost my business, the homeowners (that I manage the property for), several of my neighbors that I spoke to on my way home and hopefully anyone and everyone that I happen to see this summer. Im retired and other than puttering around in my gardens, I have nothing to do but tell everyone I see about the appalling way I was treated by Ace Mazzone Hardware
Ace Mazzone has everyone within a 5 mile area by the balls so to speak, because they are the only hardware store around here unless you go to Brooklyn or Long Island. Thats a shame......
I can't list any other hardware store names in this review, otherwise Ace Mazzone can whine/cry to Yelp and have this review deleted.
But in my honest opinion, any hole in the wall store will treat you better than Ace Mazzone Hardware store. read more
