Party World fits a lot into a small space, but on this occasion they were missing engagement cards. They have a small selection of birthday cards, which whilst perfectly adequate are nothing particularly special. Additionally the party goods selection is rather pathetic (some basic paper plates, and napkins). They do have a small range of fancy dress, however all of this is rather tarty and tacky in my opinion (lots of bunny ears).

Bob creates bespoke balloon art for parties, weddings and corporate functions, but just a quick browse around the premises will give you an idea of his skill. Floor-to-ceiling creations pepper the shop floor, giving this Yelper an idea or two for her beloved's daughter's next birthday party. The ground floor also showcases every latex balloon design you can imagine (from smiley faces to Peppa Pig), in addition to greeting cards, invitations and other party necessities. Downstairs is where the fancy dress kit is stocked, offering your usual ranges of hats, masks and costumes. I live right round the corner and in an effort to put some cash into local businesses decided to come here. They were really helpful and at £30ish for 4 sets of 5 balloons, weights and ribbon i didn't think that was half bad! They were very kind and bundled them up into bags for me so i could squeeeeeze them in my little ford ka (called fiona!) My boss was dead happy them being in the company colors, with myself and several of the bar staff greatly enjoying singing 'follow the yellow brick road' after the party had ended using the balloons...never to old! This shop sells so much, various cards, balloons from all colors of the rainbow to birthday cake supplies, hen parties, banners, bubbles and more. Great little local party shop and i'll def use them again. Two thumbs up!

Toys N Things is a great little independent toyshop on the Wellfield Road. It's not quite as big as…read moreits competitor, Stepping Stones, a few doors down, which acts as a distribution centre as well as a retail outlet, but Toys N Things is, in many ways, just as good. It seems that they both share a similar ethos, with Toys N Things supplying educational games and toys for children of all ages, just like its counterpart. Stepping Stones is not as colourful as Toys N Things, but that's mainly due to the fact that the latter cashes in on all of the ultra-popular big brand names like Barbie and does a fine line in fancy dress with all of the usual suspects covered. It is also a joke and novelty shop that supplies fireworks. I'm not so keen on fireworks but I am rather partial to whoopee cushions and things of that ilk... perhaps with exception of stink bombs and bangers. Toys N Things is not a Stepping Stones copycat. It is very much doing its own thing. I think the latter is more commendable in many respects, but there is definitely a place for what Toys N Things is doing.

What I really like about this place is that the prices range from the very cheap (ideal for pocket money) to the more expensive, so if you need to buy a toy for someone, you're bound to find something suitable. I think the items in this store would mainly be suitable for 3-12 year olds, however older children (and adults) may enjoy the board games on offer. They do have a small fancy dress selection (mainly wigs), but unless it's an emergency and you need something quick, I would recommend you go to one of Cardiff's excellent fancy dress stores instead!

Once you're inside, however, it's a different story. It's stocked just about floor to ceiling with wrapping paper, pretty ribbons, party streamers, table displays, balloons, gift boxes, and cards and cake decorations for every occasion. Whether you're after birthday surprise banners, congratulations cards, or Easter chicks, you'll find it here. They also stock some excellent accessories for the Stag and Hen party markets - including a range of cheeky items to surprise the bride-to-be. But perhaps most exciting are the fantastic party costumes, whether you're looking for a complete Halloween outfit, or just some amusing accessories such as fake moustaches or wigs.
