Best bathrooms on a public transportation vehicle I've experienced to date. That's 34 years of suffering, guys! Oh MBTA, until you came along, I didn't know that a toilet on a boat could be odorless and litter-free. That it could be clean, and adequately stocked with toilet paper, hand towels, AND soap. Thank you for resetting my expectations. Also, this was a relatively cheap trip to get out on the water of the Boston Harbor. Super worth it for the sunset. Great experience overall. read more

The Massachusetts has the best captains, and deck staff. Drinks are generous and reasonable priced. If you are driving to Boston from the South Shore you are doing it all wrong . This is seen as a great option by those who use it a lot. it is not a great option for casual travel, but a good option. to get on it today at long wharf, we had to deliberately not read signs (the boat was signposted salem) and head to it only based on the Big T on the boat. we were ok, but for a first time user the boat was needlessly and recklessly badly sign posted. and, not signed at all correctly or even signed, because they are not for novices, the commercial boats are for tourists and are well sign posted. They do not say when they are done docking, but they do say not to walk on the stairs when docking. I now recommend strongly, walk on the stairs when it might be docking so you don't get an extra leg of travel! Or, going down before docking. bathrooms are nice, and folks working and traveling are nice. snack bar was lightly used but nice to have it. cost was ok. read more

If you're not actually commuting and thinking about using the ferry to get out on the water, there's nothing wrong with that at all. You'll want to check the calendar for the time of the sunset because it's absolutely lovely with the city skyline in the foreground and the sun in the background. Do it! We queued up behind a bunch of folks on the "North" Long Wharf space (there are two) and after the initial passengers disembarked, we boarded smoothly and there were plenty of seats. Both ships we rode were clean and comfortable with a free wifi signal. There is a small refreshments station that sells chips and sodas and some alcohol. How about that! Great view of the skyline, the harbor, the airport and the Harbor Islands. It was a high speed trip that was mostly smooth and definitely efficient. Tip: The MBTA has an app. You can buy your tickets on the app and not have to deal with money or tickets on board. Way easy! read more

Disaster. Planned to take boat Hull Pemberton to Logan airport. For a flight. They show up with full boat, only will take first 13 passengers. I had lounged around until I saw boat coming. I easily could have been first in line. Got there 30 plus minutes early nothing but time. I had NO idea the boat could come full, and just leave passengers there, then go, leaving me and around 40 other waiting would be passengers stranded in Hull. NO warning this could happen. Gatekeeper on boat refused to answer when I asked him what was going on, would they send another boat, when is the next boat. What the heck? Ashamed, I reckon, and with reason. That sucked. I went from loving this boat to hate hate hating. Screwup! Only through miraculous last minute scrambling did I make my flight. Want to make a flight with 3 hours lead time? Stay away from this "service". SADDDD. If you do go for it, get there early, stand in line, and pray the whole time. Want to hang out and maybe take a boat ride, maybe not? Fun excursion to Hingham, Quincy and Hill. It's the no frills equivalent to the Staten Island Ferry except it's ~10 each way per person. However, unlike the Staten Island ferry MassDOT has upped their game with beer, wine and snacks available for sale. Whether you're just avoiding traffic or need an excuse to "take the edge off" before seeing the old lady and your four mistakes, the commuter boat is a consistent solid good experience and alternative to getting home. Speaking of "solid + good" experiences -- there are bathrooms on board and they're legit clean! Kudos to you MBTA! Pro-tip: If you're a little "backed up," grab a coffee from the Starbucks in the Marriot. Go upstairs and they'll even booze it up for you. Between that and the gentle rumble of the engines downstairs, you too will get to enjoy your visit to all the amenities on board your forty-five minute cruise. read more

I almost want to move to Quincy and get a job downtown just so I can make my commute more fun! I can just imagine getting out of work at 5:30 on a summer evening, hopping on the boat, grabbing a beer at the bar and heading up to the top deck for my ride home. Could it get much better than that? I was down by the waterfront on a spring-like February day and decided to just get on and see where the boat would take us. You really can't beat $6.00 for a harbor cruise!! To my surprise, the boat we boarded was headed to Quincy, and it took under 30 minutes to get there since the boat cruises at pretty high speeds once it gets going!! Take a ride on the T boat, even if you don't want to go to Quincy, they will let you take a roundtrip ride just for fun!! read more

This ferry boat ride was definitely one of the highlights of my trip to Boston. We took the boat to Charlestown to see the USS Constitution and returned to Boston around 7:00 p.m., hours after sunset. Boston is so beautiful at night atop the ferry. It was a chilly night, but so worth staying on the exposed upper level to view the beautiful water and amazing Boston skyline. The darkness, the water and the city sky line and lights were a beautiful sight. The round trip charge is only $7.00. Despite the disappointing discovery that the USS Constitution was closed, we were able to visit the museum. read more

I'm only giving four starts to this excellent, affordable, fast, and efficient commuter service because their hours are a bit too short -- if they ran until 11pm, I'd be giving out five stars! We were out in Hull this past week in a rented condo and rather than deal with the nightmarish Rt3a traffic into and out of the city, we drove 2 miles down to Hull High School and used the free (and perfect spacious) parking lot for the commuter boat to Boston's Long Wharf. A twenty minute, stress free boat ride with hot coffee or tea in the morning and fresh popped corn and beer at night on the way back! The fare was $6 each way and it was on time every day. read more

We went on the short ride from long wharf to Charlestown and it was amazing. The weather was really nice so that helped the situation but this is something that everyone should do. It's super cheap and the views of the city are awesome. It's crazy to think that it's part of the MBTA. They have several different routes and the boats run often so you never have to wait very long. We then went to the USS Constitution museum and the Bunker Hill monument via the Freedom Trial. The MBTA Commuter Boat is a great cheap way to see the city from the water. read more

I have been taking the commuter boat from Hull into Boston for the past several years. I use it for commuting to work or when I want to get into the city for an evening out. The boat is timely and just a 20 minute ride from Hull to Boston. There are drinks and snacks on board for purchase. The staff on the boat are always very friendly. You can choose to sit inside the boat or on the top deck. Tickets can also be purchased on board. The boat has a number of booths and a row of chairs/benches to sit at. I would like to remind others that the "boat people" can be territorial with there seats on the boat and when the boat gets packed during peak time people will practically ask to sit on your lap. I had an odd occurrence on the boat this morning where a woman asked if she could "squeeze in" the booth where I was sitting, When I looked at the rest of the booth, there was not an inch of space left to sit. I was situated on the end and I respectfully let her squeeze in. I tried to sit back down and half of my butt was hanging off the seat, all while trying to balance my coffee, paper and cell phone on my lap. I opted for standing the rest of the ride. Overall, its a great way to commute into the city. Just be weary of the peak times and arrive early for a spot near the window to watch the water as you cruise into Boston. read more

This review is for the F2 (MBTA water shuttle to Quincy). All I can say is-magical! In laws were in town and was looking for something quintessentially Boston to do but not willing to pay a lot. Paid 8 dollars on Saturday night of fourth of July weekend for the most amazing harbor cruise! Caught the 9:35pm shuttle to Quincy, paid on the shuttle (there was no one at the booth). In Quincy, just stayed on the boat. Along the way, highlights included: 4 sets of fireworks, gorgeous Boston skyline, Boston harbor islands, cool breezes on a VERY hot day, and beer/wine on board. Round trip was a little over an hour. Beware- it's tricky to find the dock on Long Wharf. The shuttle to Charlestown (F4) leaves on the wharf nearest to the aquarium (when facing Marriot Long Wharf, Charlestown ferry is to the right. The F2 to Quincy is to the left of Marriot Long Wharf.
