My sister and I recently got our hands done for her engagement party. I'll start with the positive. Manu has very good technique and her henna smelled good because she infused it with lavender oil. I was happy with the design outcome. Unfortunately the negatives outweigh all that. She charges upper limit of henna artists $80/hour, which she claims she typically charges higher for bridal party. In addition, she counts from the time you sit down to the time you walk out. At the end of our appointment, she said she was going to charge my sister and I an extra $50 for additional 10 minutes over 3 hour mark! How ridiculous! She did not take into account when we used the restroom and when she took photos and videos of our hands (the latter for advertisement of her own business). I was furious and quickly rationalized with her that if she charges $80/hr every 15 minute block is $20. She had no argument against this but I was upset at myself later for even giving her the $20 extra because it was essentially like leaving her a tip since the whole 3 hours 10 minutes was not spent on the henna (as explained previously). Lastly, the design did not darken that much on either my sister or my hand even though we left it on for 5 hours. I felt especially bad for my sister as she had professional photos taken the next day and the henna did not turn out well. Manu blamed this on our "skin tone." Really? My sister and I are of Middle Eastern descent and have never had issues with henna in the past, which we've had several times in the past. The design lasted less than 1 week on my hands. It's funny because I work in healthcare field but I was off work so not washing my hands as much and yet wore off so quickly. She told my sister that this has never happened with any customers of hers for last 2 years, which I find hard to believe (side not there are not any other reviews here on Yelp yet). I will say that she had a plastic bag full of different individual henna paste and I am not sure how old they were or of different batch. Of course this is all speculation and I can't verify this but the reason I say this is because different parts of the design came out darker and it had nothing with "user error," as we kept the henna on for 5 hours as she recommended and then washed it off. I'm more upset about how she handled the situation when we complained making it more about herself than making the situation right. She said she'd give us $40 off minimum 2 hour session in future. So we'd have to spend $120 for another two hour session. Who do you think benefits more in this scenario? read more

I had my bridal Mehndi done with her and two days later it was already fading. Every other Mehndi artist I've ever used, the Mehndi that was applied gets darker, but this faded away even with following care instructions. Other artists apply after care for their clients instead of having them do it on their own for half the price of what you charged for this simple work that wasn't even symmetrical on both hands. Charging exorbitant amounts for this work that was called "complicated" when this, compared to other bridal Mehndi, is simple especially given that not even my whole hand was covered. Then she caused a scene in front of all my guests and argued about trying to overcharge and for listing one price on her website then trying to charge $200+ more than listed. I have seen her charge less for even more complicated bridal work. There is and was no excuse for the poor quality of this work. None of the Mehndi showed up in any pictures including my friends/family's Mehndi. Complete waste of time, energy and money using this artist. I will never recommend her again. I agree with my sister that Manu has very good technique and she can handle complex designs. Similarly, I was also happy with the design outcome. Unfortunately, everything my sister wrote on her review I can come. She charged us the upper limit of henna artists at $80/hour, which she later claimed if she had known it was for "bridal" party she typically charges higher (this was an engagement party, not my wedding). In addition, she indeed counted from the time we sat down to the time we walked out. What my sister noted about Manu wanting to charge us an extra $50 for additional 10 minutes over 3 hour mark is true and appalling! My sister rationalized with her how ridiculous this was so we ended up only paying $20 for that extra 10 minutes, which as my sister mentioned should not have even been charged because that entire time was not spent on the actual henna. If she's going to be particular about charging for her time, she should be considerate and not charge for time spent using the restroom and time taken to take photos and videos she asked of us so she could post them on social media for her advantage, especially when she charges such a high price to begin with for subpar results. Her high price did NOT reflect the end result, which was most disappointing! I left the henna on for 5 hours as recommended by Manu and had my sister open/close doors and even put my seatbelt on because my engagement party was the next day. I have attached texts between Manu and I so no need to repeat what was said. All I can say is that she has very poor customer service. She turned it on me and made herself look like a victim. I had professional photos taken the next day and the henna did not turn out well. Again, Manu blamed this on our "skin tone. At the end of the session, she asked something to the extent of, "do you like my work?" My friend replied, "yes." To which Manu explained, "If you like my work, then tip me." Cannot believe that remark. My friend is Caucasian and she had similar results as we did which discredits her skin tone remark.
