Chef…read moreRicardo claimed to have the "best octopus in the world" (as a joke of course), but honestly, he was right. The crispy octopus is truly one of the best I've had -- grilled to perfection. The place got revamped, and is under new ownership with normal restaurant hours, so call ahead to get seated. Ricardo was truly warm and so was our waiter andres. Both made us feel like family within the couple hours we spent there. They gave us great activity recs too, as delightful as their chocolate mousse with a zingy creative fun pepper twist you gotta try it! My daughter's favorite was the beef tartar; it was very fresh and balanced so well. We are actually on our way back tonight and are trying to explore more of their menu, but we might just stick to what we got yesterday because it will be hard to beat!

A super deal for only 3 euro, you are able to take a tour inside Fort S. Bras. There are lot of…read moreitems to look at and you get wonderful views from the battlements. There are also a lot of great little corridors and rooms to explore from this fort's long history. The Azores has a long history of military presence on San Miguel. The fort itself is hundreds of years old, and you are able to freely walk around pretty much everywhere once you get your pass. There are plenty of interesting objects and displays, such as military regalia, personnel weapons, cannons, etc. What I really liked about this museum though is that the tour is unguided and you can move about at your own pace. As this is not America, there are not keep off signs everywhere, you are expected to know and respect the boundaries of what is permissible. Don't go riding every 40mm gun you see. There are literally no personnel up on the battlements, so if you go hanging off them and plunge to your death it's your own fault. That being said, you can get some really great pictures of the entire city as well as the bay from this area. There are also some pretty large shore guns from WWII that are still stationed up there, which you can stand next to, and really get a sense of the scope of them. I took a few minutes to just perch against the perimeter wall and take in this beautiful town. I was here in September and the museum is well attended, but not busy. You can also go through a number of the old tunnels and rooms underneath the fort. There is one area in particular that is pretty creepy (but also pretty fun!) to move through. There are some signs, but you can get turned around pretty easily in here, so make mental notes of your location as you go. Plenty to do and see down here and I won't ruin all the details. Overall, highly recommended and one of the best parts of my trip.
