Awful!! The women on the phone are SO RUDE and can't seem to run a business. They "scheduled" a plumber and 12 hrs later were still unable to confirm whether he was coming or not. They will brush you off and tell you they will call you back, and then never do. But honestly, the worst part is how they speak to their clientele. AVOID!! Called them to do a simple septic pump. Not cheap. I have cash in hand to pay them. Mentioned I had a steep road. They said, "no problem". We'll send someone out tomorrow to look first. Tomorrow came. I stayed home from work. No one showed up. No one called. Called again a day or so later. They said "Oh gosh, yeah. that's right. I forgot. Let me call the guy. I'll call you right back." Want to guess? Yeah. No call. Called again today just for fun. "OH WE ARE SO SORRY. Let us call you back." Hah! Yeah. No. They. Didn't. Totally unprofessional. Agree with the other reviewers. Terrible company. If their work is anywhere as disorganized, sloppy and mismanaged as their office, they will totally screw up your plumbing. Shockingly cavalier, screw-you attitude. Like trying to do business with the Three Stooges. Avoid at all costs! read more

Worst plumbing company I ever used. Totally unresponsive Terrible communication It took three calls (no return calls) to get them to come out. When they finally did, the plumber went under my house, then left without even telling me he was leaving. A call to the company verified he'd be back the next day with a part. Five calls and a month later he came back unannounced, then left without telling me again. Didn't fix the repair though because he claimed I already fixed it??? The dispatcher admitted it's a common complaint and " it's two 65 year old guys who never communicate with them either" I would never recommend them to anybody. read more

I called McDermott Plumbing in Malibu on Friday morning, about a clogged kitchen sink. I was told someone would be out that afternoon. I had to rearrange my schedule in order to be home to wait for them, and could not use my kitchen AT ALL!! When no one showed up or called by 4:00 pm, I called them and was told they would have to come on Saturday. So, once again, today we waited, and when no one showed up or called, once again I had to call and leave a message on their machine. They called us back at 2:00 to say they would come on Monday!!! Nope...I'll use another company from now on! read more

Living in Malibu and looking for an honest, reliable plumber. I'm a Do-It-Yourselfer type but after changing out some corroded pipes, rusted metal and rocks clogged the older pipes. Called McDermott to see if they'd come take a look. Told Sean the problem, Peggy called back 15 minutes later and said someone was on the way. Jim McDermott and Rory showed up ready to go. I told them what I had done, explained the quirks of the system and they went right to it. Problem solved. Jim is a hoot and Rory is a great sidekick. When they unholster their wrenches...watch out. Great experience. Won't hesitate to call on them again!!! read more

The work I do brings me in contact with Construction and property management: the most difficult, inefficient, tedious portion is the coordination of the work and the time frame. My dad let me know he had a broken pipe at the main on the top of the property(which conveniently crosses a neighbors fenced property) near the top of Las Flores Canyon. "A Semi-911". Called McDermott Plumbing, they came out with parts and made the repair the same day. The bill was reasonable when it could have been unreasonable. read more

Sean and Peggy were very helpful and responsive and Sean is the type who seems to go above and beyond from a customer service perspective. We had them check out a couple of options for waterless and regular heaters, they ordered and installed the water heater quickly! Would definitely recommend them for plumbing. read more

Whatever you do, don't call McDermott plumbing or pumping. We scheduled an appointment a week in advance for septic pumping and 2 other minor plumbing problems. It ended up I needed to be away in the afternoon of the day they were coming out. I called at 8 in the morning to confirm what time they would be able to come out. They had no idea and complained that they are given a list of 30 jobs to go to and can't give me a time. So, I said lets just reschedule the plumbing fixes until Monday and asked if that would be better for them. He said probably, and I then asked if they could schedule me as one of the first appointments in the morning, again was told about the list of 30 jobs to do so couldn't tell me a time. The next thing I heard on Monday morning was that they would be out before 9, I called them and said that was fine but I wouldn't be home until 8:45 if they were planning on coming out earlier than that. Here I am and it is 10:30. So I called again and asked where they were, they were very confused and said I told them not to come before 8:45!?! I said yes, but I still wanted you to come at 9, I was being courteous and telling you I wouldn't be home before 8:45. The guy got very condescending and somewhat antagonistic and said I will call him and see if he can get back to you!!! So it is now 1/2 an hour later and, surprise, still hasn't called me back. By the way the septic guy did show up on Friday, but he was supposed to call before he came so I could have someone let him in the backyard. Surprise, he never called either. I guess they are sooooo busy they don't need my business. Good luck!!! read more

A terrible company. Had a septic tank that kept overflowing due to intrusive tree roots in the line but they kept blaming the occupants of the house on their "excessive water usage" and "excessive toilet paper usage" which wasn't the case at all. They gladly kept coming out and pumping over and over and taking my money until I finally begged them to investigate further which revealed the tree roots. Always on time, talk me through the cleaning and septic service, have them on a yearly return. Good people, great service.

I am surprised by some of the other reviews on here. I had always used A&B plumbing in the past for my septic. After finding McDermott, I will never go back. Their prices are more reasonable and they are more honest. I did have a scheduling problem once when I had an emergency, but it got worked out. read more

McDermott Plumbing is great. We've used them for 20 plus years. Sure sometimes it takes a little longer to see them, but they are dealing with emergencies, and they take priority over getting your septic pumped. Sorry but that's reality. They're great guys who work hard. read more

I was disappointed with the outcome. I had an exterior leak and they came out quite quickly to repair. While I had them at the house I also had them repair a running toilet. The toilet still runs and the exterior leak still leaks (not as bad as before but a tiny trickle). I called twice to ask them to come back out. I had already paid them. They have not come back to fix their work. I won't be using them again. Back to my old trusty plumber Dan that I should have stuck with. read more
