I needed to get pictures from a disposable camera developed, and I normally consider CVS but they take up to 2 weeks to do so. Have been going to McAlister for over a year now and the quality of the work they do is sub par. At first I enjoyed giving them my business but over time I realized more and more issues. There have been multiple times where my film was sloppily cleaned and scanned causing there to be speckles and dots on my photos, although they offered to rescan them they will charge you for their mess ups. Recently I had brought in a roll of film and paid $13 to get a roll of Kodak ULTRAMAX developed. When I got the roll back I was only given 2/3 of my photos. When I went in to ask what happened they told me the photos I took were exposed improperly (in my case over exposed). When I asked if I could just get the scans anyways they told me it would be $2 per photo. On top of that some of my photos were chopped off and improperly cropped for my digital photos. I should not have to pay an additional $2 when I already paid for the service. They also never mention the fact that they will not give you under or over exposed photos. I would not recommend bringing anything here unless it's for some insignificant project for school. I will not be bringing anything here anymore and will also be telling people to stay away from here. The employees are very nice and always helpful though which I do appreciate. read more

It's really difficult to get photos for non-American passports, but this shop made it super easy. I called a while ago and asked, and they were really helpful and apparently get that question all the time. Went in today, and walked out with perfect passport photos (well, perfectly sized, they always look like mugshots, but that's not the photographer's fault) 20 minutes later. read more

They lost the image before they could scan it. The photo just got lost in their shuffle. They said that it might show up after the Holiday rush. Haven't heard from them. Heartbreaking. This place is great, I highly recommend it. I went in on the Saturday before Christmas and had them print out a specialized picture to fit into a locket that I got my wife for Christmas. They had it done the next day. They have so many neat things, as well as interesting products and services. There are lots of online places you can order things from, and this place has online too, but if you want a special place where you can deal in person with their friendly staff, go visit their store. The employees are so kind and also very transparent on when they anticipate your film will be done. They also import and sell disposables at prices well below what they're going for online. Best place in Columbus to get film developed! They get it done in an hour and give you back your negatives. They also have a very convenient dropbox option to get a digital copy of all your pictures. I was able to get 2 rolls developed + digital copies for $30. A much better option than taking your photos to CVS or Walgreens. read more

Once again, McAlister proved they are the best photo printing option in Columbus. I went here to print a large family portrait that was to fit into a custom frame that had very non-standard dimensions and no glass, but we wanted to use it because it really makes a unique and beautiful presentation of our family and matches the picture so well. The McAlister employees (one was the owner) were great and looked at the picture, took the frame, and made an excellent recommendation on the style of print that we should go with. Then they printed it, cut it to fit perfectly, and inserted it into our frame in less than 48 hours. It's absolutely beautiful and is the centerpiece of our family room ... everyone that has visited our house since we put it up has commented on it and complimented it. I have been going to McAlister Photoworks for a few years and spent hundreds of dollars on prints/enlargements. The product is good. My complaint is about the owner, Paul Clutter. He has always ignored me, never says Hello and actually looks the other way or moves to the back of the store as soon as I enter. And yet anyone else who comes in, Paul Clutter is always friendly and talks quite nicely with them. You see I have Brown skin. He seems to only show his nice friendly side to all the White customers. He has demonstrated this behavior differential with me over the years and I've tried my best to ignore him. However, Employee 1 and Employee 2 are quite helpful and always friendly. There's another guy usually near the printers in the back and even he has come to the front and assisted me with my pictures. About 2 weeks ago I ordered an enlargement, 16X20 family wedding picture for an existing frame. When the print was ready, I brought the frame in and as soon as Paul Clutter saw the frame and picture, rudely comments 'Oh that won't fit! The enlarged picture fit perfectly since I had taken measurements! May 22, 2021, we were in McAlister to order another enlargement of 24X36 family wedding picture. I had copied the original file from the photographer to a USB and had the external hard drive with the original. I had some trouble at the kiosk with the picture, so Employee 3 came to assist. She also had issues so she went to the back and talked to Paul Clutter with my USB. He was trying to find the pic and then turned to me and asked in very condescending tone "Do you know how to use a computer?' I've never had anyone ask me that question. Keep in mind I had brought a USB and an external hard drive into the store. I did not dignify that question with a response. Any way the female employee had the picture on their screen to show me. I asked if it was okay for me to come to the back and she said yes. Paul Clutter however commented 'Oh let me get away from here' as if I have a disease. I commented 'We have both been vaccinated' and we were wearing masks. I was planning to order an enlargement mounted on foam core for $89.00 and had an estimate of $385.00 for framing. Paul Clutter's behavior towards me cost his business $474.00 and any future business from me. I will Never Ever return to McAlister Photoworks at 6466 Sawmill Road, Columbus, OH! My wedding photographer recommended we print our photos here for all reprints. The quality is superior over anywhere else; crisp, color correct photos. They are also very fast with online orders. Pricing is slightly higher than the bigbox online printing companies, but again SUPERIOR quality. Will ship or you can pick-up in store. Very happy and the only place I print photos. read more

This place is awesome. I have been into 35mm film photography lately and I was afraid I wouldn't be able to find anywhere in the Columbus area where I could get my film developed. Luckily there is still McAlister and they have fast and friendly service. One time there was a mistake with my photo prints and they were happy to fix it right away! Half the time I come here within 30 minutes of closing, everything is shut down and the kids working the desk say "it will take too long to boot the computers back up". I could build a computer in less than 30 minutes and have it print-capable. Came in again today at 440...same deal. I watched the kids turn off the printer (which was obvious because the dull hum filling the entire store suddenly died and all was silent). Asked the kid if we can print some photos from disk, and learned "Ohhh, the printer is already shut down. Sorry." "How long does it take to turn back on? Is it like baking bread? You can make a pizza in 10 minutes if you have the ingredients. I feel like we aren't cooking anything." "It takes longer than the 20 minutes left until the store closes..." Then all the employees locked up left before 5p. Recommend you change your hours to reflect the hours you intend to be operational, not just the hours the door will be unlocked in case someone wants to buy what...a picture frame? Aside from that, your pictures are fantastic. The half dozen times I developed photos and material here, it's always solid. read more

very good quality on every print. there is just one thing if you a pro photographer. you must turn the levels up on saturation and contrast at least like 8 more if you are using Lightroom. this is just to get the resolt the you want, other ways the colors are gonna be a little off. read more

The folks in the store are very helpful. And the print quality was excellent. The website however is VERY frustrating. The structure to work through to actually pick options is the worst design I've seen since a kindergarden level designer in 1999. Once you get to what you want, there are nice options for each print. And the control offered print by print is very good - sizing, cropping, adjusting the print itself, finish, etc. I really like that. And then there is speed. The slowest website I've seen in years - since we had 300 baud modems if anyone knows what that was. The abysmal speed compounds the pain from the poor design. If you make a bad choice it takes an extremely long time to see what you did by mistake, and then an extremely long time to get back to make another choice. Luckily I have dual monitors, which allows me to more easily go do something productive while waiting. Like signing up for Yelp and writing a review, along with a range of other projects. read more

Very bad experience with McAlister's service. Don't show up at their store close to closing time as they don't stay open and operational as long as they say they do. Walked in about 10 minutes before closing to just upload a picture for printing later, but their kiosks were already shut down for the day. No effort was made to turn them back on...just told to come back another time. I think not. Their business must be booming if they can turn away business, albeit a small order, so casually. As this was my first experience with McAlister Photoworks, I'll find another phot processor. read more

I cannot say enough about McAlister Photoworks. My sister and I embarked several months ago on making a photo wedding guest book for our cousins wedding. From the start we had questions on how to do certain things to achieve the high quality we wanted. Additionally we wanted both a plain black cover and plain black page with only text. I could not achieve what we wanted through my own tries and Paul went out of his way to not only help us but assist in the design of these pages. When we picked the book up there were some issues which were caused by a computer glitch. Paul was absolutely wonderful and has ensured that not only are the issues corrected but that the book will still be completed in enough time to make the LA wedding. I've made several photobooks in the past but due to the high quality we wanted and how specific some items were to be we decided we didn't want to use one of the online services for this book. It took 3 tries to produce the DVDs of videos from my phone that I ordered. It also cost 60.00. Not once did I receive a kind word, apology, or even a smile from either Steve (who did the work and did not check it before I picked it up), the manager, nor the sales clerks behind the counter. I have never been treated so rudely in my life. Yes, the final product is good, but once again, 3 tries before it was correctly produced. In 2014 I had the memory cards from DSLR made into a slide show for our trip to Alaska. They did a fantastic job. This week I took my memory cards to them of our trip out west this summer and they did not follow my request. I wanted a slide show; they gave me a Data product on 4 disc. I had no idea what to do with them, so I returned them and asked them to start over and make my slide show possible. I will have to wait to see if they can get it right this time. read more

It never fails, that when I use this business to process my rolls of film, they F@&K something up. I drove clear across town to pick up my negatives and a disc of images today. I get home to look over my work and low and behold I have someone else's images!!! I call them to see if my images can be emailed (because they did that once before when they forgot to scan a roll) but they insisted I drive back over to get my roll rescanned!! Ain't nobody got time for that!!! I'm all about supporting local businesses, but McAlister, I'm finished with you!!! I'm taking my business somewhere more trust worthy. read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Customer service was HORRENDOUS--rude, completely unhelpful, and unknowledgeable at least half the times I've been there. The prints are inconsistent, their printer seems to break down on a weekly basis, and the prints are never ready when they say they will be. I had to take 3 trips out there 'cause they kept telling me my prints would be ready on (Monday, Friday, etc.) and every time I went, their printer had mysteriously broken down again and they weren't ready. Even though they SAID they would call me, they never did, and also did not bother to call and tell me that the prints were NOT ready when they were supposed to be. The prints themselves were mediocre at best, and they completely messed up the colors on one set. (I had two identical sets of pictures and they were totally different.) When I asked them to redo the messed up set, they made me pay for it again! DO NOT GO HERE! read more

Today Dec 2015 Wow! Having over million dollar printing set up and over 40 years of imaging evolution. The 29 cents print services and $200.00 custom services with about 8-15 print stations I could see. I got about 30 custom adjusted prints wallets, 4x6, 5x7, 8x10 for about $22.00 we spent about 90 minutes 4:45pm - 6:15 pm there was 1 person working dedicated to help the print station people some people came in loaded images printed all on card, then paid and left in about 3-6 minutes. I had about 6 minutes of questions 12-25 questions hold me up about 20-30 minutes being first time user 4 of 5 employees helped us on the machines in the hour and a half at different times. I think this could be one of the only imaging service places likevthis in the world they were very busy I could image to keep everything running costing hundreds of dollars an hour. That we even have place like this that has figured out how to provide these services and stay in business when over 95% of them are gone a big retailer at best does about 3-15% of services that Image works does. I found them to be helpful and the knowledge they shared was correct and they wanted to help you! This kind of service is hard to find these days and services. When we left about 80% of stations we being used. I worked in this industry about 15 years ago. I am very happy to find a place like this with all the services that is based on service. I would go back and will try at least 3 things I have never gotten or seen before. I hope this helps some it is worth a try. The print systems software was updated this year to 2015 tech. read more
