This city-operated compost facility turns brush, limbs, old Christmas trees, and other organic brush matter into mulch or compost, then sells it to the public for less than commercial brand retail prices. If you live in McAllen, this is where your brush is taken by the city trucks after they take it from your curb. Hidalgo County residents are welcome to bring brush by for drop off. The McAllen Compost Recycling Facility is located on the west side of Rooth Road (same at 29th St) 2 and 1/3 miles north of Hwy. 197 and just south of Monte Cristo. They accept most credit/ debit cards and cash (except $50 or $100 bills). Be prepared to show your ID with your current address and a phone number. Blood samples are not required. After you pay, you will be directed where to go to have your product loaded into your vehicle. They also offer delivery service, which comes in handy if you don't have an appropriate vehicle.
