I was initially evaluated by a recent medical school graduate with only four months of experience, who discharged me with a vague diagnosis of "headaches" and a prescription for nausea--without adhering to proper protocols or completing the diagnostic orders I arrived with. The attending physician never entered my room or spoke with me prior to discharge, relying solely on Dr. Zapien's inaccurate assertion that I had presented for headaches, which was far from the truth. It was only after a family member--an experienced Emergency Room Physician and faculty member at a leading medical school--advocated on my behalf that my discharge was canceled and I was admitted to 4 East. Unfortunately, conditions deteriorated further upon admission. My stay on 4 East was characterized by patient mistreatment and a disturbing disregard for ethical standards. My assigned nurse, Branden, exhibited gross unprofessionalism and moral insensitivity, engaging in unsolicited, inappropriate, and psychologically intrusive commentary that had no place in a medical setting. His conduct demonstrated a complete lack of respect for patient dignity, emotional well-being, and trauma-informed care principles. If you or a loved one ever encounters a similar situation, please know your rights: * Request to speak with the Charge Nurse * Then the House Supervisor * Follow up with the Director of the unit (or the Director of the Emergency Room if you are in the ER) * File a formal complaint with the Hospital Administrator Do not stop there: * Report physician violations to the Texas Medical Board: https://www.tmb.state.tx.us/resources/for-the-public/complaint-about-licensee * Report nursing violations to the Texas Board of Nursing: https://www.bon.texas.gov/discipline_and_complaints_policies_and_guidelines_filecomplaint.asp.html * Submit a patient safety concern to The Joint Commission: https://www.jointcommission.org/en-us/contact-us/report-a-patient-safety-event Every patient deserves competent, compassionate, and professional care--not indifference, incompetence, or unethical behavior. Another unknown doctor came in and told me in a terse tone that people live with my condition. I was moved without my doctor knowing to a regular room, I spent a few hours there and was flown out to a hospital in Houston for open-heart surgery! Ridiculous!!! I'm blessed that my two doctors held their own: Dr. Menon and Dr. Georgiadis.

After more than 10 minutes, I ended up having to connect my mom to the monitor and take a set of vitals for her bc NO ONE DID. After about 10 more minutes, one person showed up, peeked in and said,'Oh! You already have vitals.' Which was because I PERSONALLY had to do it myself. Dr. Lozano showed up a little after that to ask about anesthesia. The nurse SANDRA, RN who I found out was my mom's nurse almost 2 HOURS later came to ask questions or do the medication reconciliation until 12:15p. This was after more than three people stuck my mom More than 6 times to get an IV. The med rec was done at 12:15 as the CL nurses and anesthesiologist were there at bedside waiting to get consent and take my mom to her procedure. Which all of this should have been done HOURS prior. At 1420, I arrived back to the room after the procedure and she STILL wasn't connected to the monitor. So I HAD TO DO IT AGAIN. Why was she in her room by herself in the dark with no post procedure vitals taken per policy? At 1428: I had to Unclamp the IV fluid after the nurse hung the fluids and said that they needed to be run. I told the nurse there were no drips in the chamber so she needed to check the IV that took more than 4 people to start, so she hadn't even checked if it was running. The nurse then flushed the line, however my mom ended up having blood pushed back into her IV very quickly and painfully because she said,'OWW!' SANDRA should have clamped and then disconnected IV TUBING BEFORE flushing fluids in the line. MY MOM WAS Only offered the call light until 1444. So she hadn't had anything explained to her ALL DAY. Complained to the charge nurse 1450. 1455: Charge RN Isidro came to follow up with us. -1505: Charge RN started 'incidence' report. I just wanted to get out of there FAST and NEVER GO BACK AGAIN. EVER. BOTH my mom And I have been nurses for more than 10 years and it was absolutely an absolutely HORRIBLE experience that should NOT have happened with the supposed high level of care, vigilance, and nursing excellence that should be given to ALL patients at ALL times. I would NEVER recommend this facility or poor nursing care to anyone EVER.

I went in at 2am and the staff in the ER were very nice and compassionate. In my room, the nurses were nothing but kind and answered my questions completely. I can not thank the staff enough for their ability to be so compassionate and go above and beyond to help me understand everything I had questions about. Thank you to all the staff immensely, it's clear that they care about their patients.

The nurse was upset I declined pain meds and made a rude comment to the doctor insinuating I was lying about being in pain. Months later I got a bill for almost $1000 after the insurance processed their ridiculous charges. Most of the time I was alone in the room without any medical attention. The doctor did not even explain my test results, just said it was inflammation. After reading the results once I had left, I had to walk in there again to ask about the note on the records stating there was plaque in my abdominal artery. This emergency room is ridiculous and very unprofessional. then, Dr. tells me he's going to prescribe me prenatal vitamins and doesn't even prescribe them. I literally just walked out never will come back here again.

Many volunteers help the room's leader Jorge Barrientos! Winter Texans often donate children's blankets, and many others donate stuffed animals, small toys, children's books and more that a parent(s) can take back to his/her child that is staying in the hospital. Anyone can donate items, from toiletries to food to toys, for the parents or children. A great cause! Everything is free to parents!
