I brought a tractor down to them to have a front loader installed on a SAME-Deutz-Fabr cab tractor (and the air conditioner worked on). Although a 4 hour drive, as a SAME dealer, thought it was the best place to go. The owner told me the job would take less than 4 hours. I scheduled the job several months in advance with occasional reminders including the day before and the day we were bringing the tractor down. Leaving at 6:00 am, we arrived at about 10:00 am. The overall cost of moving the 8000 pound tractor 250 miles: about $500.00.
When we arrived and asked where we could unhook and leave the trailer so that we could go into town, we were told by the owner "it is not going to be that long". We headed to town and after lunch around 1:00 pm we headed back assuming the tractor was near complete (it has been 3 hours). Not even close. The owner said "It won't be much longer". By 4:00 pm (now 6 hrs. later), knowing that there was no way they were going to get it done, the owner still insisted it was going to get finished. I could not see how and the 2 people working on the tractor were Mexican and did not speak a word of English (and the owner did not speak Spanish, hmmm). By 5:30 pm, the owner finally admitted that they were not going to finish even if he kept them working until 8:00 pm (a no brainer). The owner then gave us a sob story about a tragedy with his main mechanic (like he didn't know that 8 hours earlier?) as the reason it wasn't done as scheduled. BUT, being the nice guy that he was and knowing that we had to leave (had to work in the morning), he would bring the tractor to us when finished. He would not make a special trip but would bring it whenever he was having a delivery to the area and would only charge us a $400.00 delivery fee. He would not guarantee a date but assured me it would be as soon as he could. Would you trust him?
We returned about 1-week later to pick up the tractor (another $500.00 cost plus another day of lost work). Even though they had a full week, he didn't have time to work on the air conditioner. When I complained about the additional costs of the work associated with driving to his shop twice, he simple restated the sob story of his mechanic and blamed me for not bringing the tractor in earlier in the morning. Suggesting that he should at least share in the additional costs created by his failure to get the loader installed within his defined time frame, he assumed no responsibility and blamed the entire situation on me for not brining the tractor in early enough - it should have been at his shop at 8:00 am (hmm, which if adding 2 hours at the end of the day, how was 2 more hours at the beginning going to help?). Anyway, I left disgusted and he certainly knew I was upset with him. Two days later the front loader broke because the controls were not properly adjusted. I fixed it myself.
Will never go back to Glenwood Equipment Company and when I need parts, I will find them even out of state if needed because they will never see another dime of mine, SAME dealer or no dealer.
