Extremely disappointing service…read more We visited The Dirty Duck and spent nearly $60 USD on our meal. I ordered the fish and chips and, when I was finished eating, I specifically asked for the remainder of my food to be taken away and boxed up so I could bring it home. After we received and paid our bill, I sat waiting for my leftovers to be returned. They never came. We eventually asked our server, Matthew, where my food was, and he told me it had been thrown away because I had supposedly told him to throw it away. I absolutely did not. I had specifically asked for it to be boxed up. Mistakes happen, and although I was understandably frustrated that food I had paid for was thrown away, what happened next is what completely changed my opinion of the experience. When I expressed my frustration, Matthew told me to "get over myself." I was genuinely stunned. There is a huge difference between making an honest mistake and speaking disrespectfully to a paying customer after that mistake is brought to your attention. An apology or even a simple attempt to make the situation right would have gone a long way. Instead, I was spoken to dismissively and made to feel as though I was the problem for questioning why my food had been thrown away. We are visiting from the United States, and I was excited to experience local places while here. Unfortunately, this interaction left an awful impression. I hope the owner or management sees this review because regardless of the misunderstanding over the food, telling a customer to "get over yourself" is completely inappropriate and unacceptable customer service. The Dirty Duck may be a beautiful and popular place, but our experience with the service was incredibly disappointing.

They were all in for some fine-dining and I felt like a right plank sitting on my own with a book. I ordered lunch anyway though cause I was hungry. I wouldn't have if i'd seen the menu before - I was after a baked potato or maybe a wee baguette - something filling, cheap and wholesome. I definitely ordered the wrong thing. I ordered cajun chicken and it was nice, a bit more substance to the dish would have been better but it looked very good. A toasted burger bap with lettuce leaves on top, then three strips of chicken marinated in Cajun spices - no top bun! a little mango chutney and some fat chips - tasty but more like a piece of art with all the sauces drizzled over it and the layout on the plate. One cup of tea and three bits of cajun chicken was £9.45p - way too expensive for me and too serious for my liking - I was glad when it was time to leave. One really good thing is that they give you a lovely fat after eight after paying - yum yum!

I'm not the biggest fan of buffalo chicken, butttt the chicken was flavorful and the perfect amount of crisp. My sinuses are also super clear now so I've got that going for me, haha. The bar certainly can get busy over the weekends but I'd say it's pretty quiet for the rest of the time. It's a good bar for an older crowd to enjoy a quiet drink at the weekend. The bar itself is split in to various floors and sections so you can experience different surroundings. It's nothing fancy but no over the top airs or graces. It does what it says on the tin, a club for working (wo)men to come relax, have a drink or a meal. The restaurant has only opened a short while ago (then closed, apparently over row with chef, now reopened under new management) and although it is now a little more pricey it still does the same job. You can come and enjoy your Friday lunch here and won't have to worry about breaking the bank. You won't come any where near. Bonus, did I mention how cheap the pints are? Your round! Cheers!

This place is a hidden gem and absolutely fabulous. The portions are huge, the food is fresh and delicious and served piping hot. I am a big fan of the Ulster Fry and this is the best in the world. The staff are lovely and the owners are always there, making sure everyone is looked after with plenty of time for a hello and and a chat The staff are so pleasant and the service was first class. The best part is they do not hassle you to leave the table once you finish, they let you enjoy finishing up your tea and coffee without feeling pressed to leave. This place came recommended, but with a codicil I hear from time to time - the portions are small. I don't really mind this, provided the quality is there, and the tastes are wonderful. For the most part the tastes and the quality here are wonderful. So four of us, all first time diners here, arrived with anticipation. Last time we four dined together was in Disney's Boathouse Orlando and I've separately reviewed this below average place. It was a cold evening about 6c as we arrived. I think we got the last car parking space; it doesn't have extensive parking. The greeting was warm and it felt like we were going into an old barn, the impressive brick walls are feet thick and lots of exposed old wood. Cosy enough. My starter was seared scallop with confit chicken wing, crisp chicken skin, chicken sauce and wild mushrooms. It was delicious and hard to discern the best bit. It was all very good with a moreish sauce. Two companions has the citrus cured salmon, with cucumber relish, salad cream and granary crisp bread. They raved about it. The salmon was a cured chunk, mostly raw within and perhaps blow torched to magnificence on the outside. One of our hungry bunch had celeriac soup which she found divine together served with tasty, chunky wheaten bread and butter. So let's pause. I read somewhere that this is a British restaurant. Ok. If you say so, but with the stocks, gels, purées and reductions it more than nods to Escoffier and French haute cuisine cooking techniques. My main was salmon based, with deep fried rissoles stuffed with fine chopped mushrooms, puy lentils, steamed sprouting greens and some of the greens lightly battered and fried tempura style. Again everything on the plate was tasty. Desserts were glorious bar one. My wife and I shared the dark chocolate, cherry and honeycomb and wow. Chocolate heaven enhanced with the whole cherry and honeycomb piece. The peanut butter based pie too was light, delicate and very tasty but a tad more salt would lift it much more. After these two big hitters the rhubarb and custard trifle was disappointing. It is a vegetable treated like a fruit. It didn't wow, it had no sharpness, it was more like a gel and it was not the thump of taste that rhubarb can easily deliver. Even the custard was meh. I doubt I'd go for it again. Staff were delightful; the (£5) beers were tasty, the wine a generous pour (£5.25) but the (£7) gin of the week was weak, overly ice cubed, watery and generally diluted way out of balance. So next time we must double the gin measure and reduce the quantity of ice and mixer. Their cappuccino (£3) was very tasty too. I hope it's not too long before we return here. It was 4c as we left under the bright moon and as we were out in the country side the stars were noticeable.

Example of a few times that come to mind In for lunch with a friend and we were the only people in the restaurant, it was during the week, (not the first time I have called in at this time of the day during the week) the fire was lit and the restaurant looked beautiful beautiful, and we were showed to a seat at the back near the door , a very awkward table with hard seats, as my friend was heavily pregnant and the restaurant was empty she suggested we move to a softer seat near the fire as she needed the softer seat for her back, as we did this a very large agitated woman came over to ask us (as nice as she could..which was not very nice) if we could move back to our table. Her words being " eeeh you can't sit there can you just go back here please " When we explained heavily pregnant = backpains / better seat etc. she got even more annoyed and asked "well why would you want to sit at a table of 4 when there are only two of you?" I was so taken a back who would address a customer like this! We asked if they were expecting a crowd or was it booked (no reservation sign was on the table) she replied "no but some people might come in.." and simply gaped at us before repeating that they MAY need that table! The restaurant was empty! There were at least 20 other tables free!! How ever we did persevere and made it clear that this is where we would like to sit, not only for the pleasantness of the fire but for the comfort of the softer seat for an 8moth pregnant lady! Outrageous behaviour, had the manager been available I would have placed a complaint I have never experienced this anywhere before nor since and it is an absolute shame that this fantastic place should be let down by such a .. member of staff. On a different occasion with a group of 6 it was towards the end of the night and after out meal we stayed for a few glasses of wine, we were down towards the back tables and there were only 2 other couples in. We could hear this shrieking and laughing coming form up the restaurant which obviously caught our attention as it was so quiet. After a trip to the bathroom it was discovered the shrieking and by now swearing which could quite clearly be heard from across the restaurant was coming from no less than the same member of staff that had treated us so badly before who was in the kitchen! Clearly unaware of how loud she was being but her F's and her B's were pretty disgusting and clear for all to hear, - I am stuck for words ! Especially as this person has now came to my attention twice I am weary about returning and have since tried several other restaurants, none of which equal the high standard of the food but at least the staff are courteous and do not exhibit the primitive behaviour I have witnessed here!
