Based on the location and decor, one would not expect too much about the food. Our group of 4 ordered 4 different dishes, with mine being the pan fried Hake. Well let me tell you, all 4 dishes were licked clean by the end of the meal! That should tell you something about the taste. We were initially blown away by the presentation of our dishes. Again, we didn't expect such level of presentation that's typically seen at fine dining establishments, not a rusty boat in the middle of a small town. I had a chicken dinner in it one time, with mashed potatoes, vegetables, gravy, and all the trimmings for around £8, and it was a really good Sunday dinner. However, on another occasion I had the lamb, which was so unbelievably tough that I bent the fork when trying to cut it! They do a good "clean" fry as well (see Biddy Duffy's review), but the thing with this place is that you always seem to be waiting forever. It's not unusual to wait a half an hour for your food in here, which is quite a wait. There's a sign that mentions something about fresh food taking longer to prepare but, unless you're out the back saying your last goodbyes to the pig, there's no reason for something as simple as a fry taking half an hour - nor are any of their dishes special enough to justify that sort of wait. Wen they first brought me my sandwich there was mayo on it and I didn't ask for mayo so they brought me a new one and the chicken was absolutely vile. It was warm and tasteless, like frozen chicken that had been defrosted in the microwave. I felt sick just thinking about this sandwich. The hot chocolate on the other hand was amazing! The staff were very helpful and kind, usually the way with a family run business. Although I would advise the owners to stick to hot drinks and cake and steer away from food because I wouldn't want anyone to experience what I did with the sandwich.
