I was surprised that this warehouse type store two weeks into the school year did not have the sizes we needed. This leaves me no choice but to do all my future shopping through the online store. Oh my goodness. I grew up on this clothing because as a Catholic School student my parents had no choice but to purchase from McCarthty's. Its over priced and the quality is garbage. I used to get told all the time about my uniform shirts having holes in the elbows or the sleeves unravelling on the sweaters. read more

Went to this store almost two weeks ago (approx. 3.5 weeks before school opens) and they did not have pants and shirts in stock for my child. I thought it was absolutely ridiculous that school is about to start, more kids/parents will be coming to the store to purchase and the mandatory uniforms are not available. Definitely a different experience from when I was going to a Catholic high school. The response/wait times for email and phone inquiries are unacceptable as well. They need to do better but probably won't since they are the only store students going to a Catholic school can buy from. Pathetic, pathetic, pathetic overpriced money grabbing monopoly. Beyond disappointed and disgusted!!!!!!!!!!!! Visited the Etobicoke location on Sunday. Waited an hour and 25 minutes just to be seen. When your name is called the staff take three customers at a time. Then waited 50 minutes more until I was taken care of. Got given pants that were four sizes too large to try on. Told the girl they were way too big but because we did not know the exact size (growing boy) we were told to try them on and see. Turns out that we were given these pants because this was all they had to try on in the school uniform. Everything was given to us in dribs and drabs. Here is a tee shirt in one size. Now wait fifteen minutes while I go back and help these other two customers and then finally come back to see if the size I gave you fits. Finally get proper service only to be told that they don't have the tee shirts and don't have the pants. The stupid remark of the year award goes to the sales associate who told me that the SCHOOL UNIFORM SUPPLY STORE doesn't have any stock in August, that if I come back in mid to late October that they will have loads of stock. SORRY - maybe I'm stupid but shouldn't a school uniform store have school uniforms for the start of school in September NOT for the end of October. After a horrible shopping experience, I ended up handing them $360 + and left the store with two tee shirts and everything else on back order for up to six weeks. NOT in time for school in September. Obviously I am extremely naive. I stupidly thought that all I had to do was walk into the school uniform supply store and pick out the school uniform that I wanted. I thought that they would have lots of stock seeing as how school was in September. Lesson learned the hard way. Also they had the cheek to charge me for the items that they don't have in stock - they keep my money for six weeks in their account. Management - I understand that July and August are busy months for you. Here's a tip - hire more staff. Also, stock up - the only business that you are in is school uniforms - how can you not have stock? The mind boggles at the stupidity. We "shopped" here for uniform (SATEC) only to be told sizes in pants we needed were not available and might not be available until October. This was 2.5 weeks before start of school. And I had to pay UP FRONT for items. SO... McCarthy's has MY money and my son does not have the basic items needed when school starts. My son was told to "wear whatever he wanted to school and show our receipt for products ordered to his school principle". 6 days ago I sent an email to McCarthy's online customer support - I have had NO RESPONSE. Same problems at the Ajax store. What a stressful experience. Young girl 'helping' us had absolutely no clue about sizing! They must work @ commission because she was only concerned about getting us out...fast. Very much assembly line style of 'store! Absolutely no stock and no guarantee my daughter will get her clothes in time to start grade 9. The girl told us that this is very normal & just to buy a pair of dress pants & the school will understand because this happens all the time! read more

Monopoly for sure !!! Lousy service and lousy stock considering the mark up. I too have an adolescent boy and growing constantly so we waited until 2 weeks before school start date and they ran out of white golf shirts, is that possible...such a common item. On top of it, we knew exactly what we need, but we were there over an hour to wait for someone to give us the items and pay. Called their phone service on the back order shirts 2 weeks later and was on queue for over an hour again. When they say you are on queue #20, that is at least over an hour. I think there were 2 operators serving everyone. Ridiculous...but where else can I shop. Thanx School Boards for promoting Monopoly and poor service. read more

My daughter started in a new school last week and we needed to order gym clothing for her to be able to attend gym class. I have placed the order that include two shirt and to pair of shorts. They sent me pants instead... I contacted them to let them know and here's their stupid policy. I need to send them their pants back before they even attempt to send me the shorts I wanted. I needed this the day before I placed the order and now it looks like the shorts are on a slow boat from China. A good company would expedite the two pair of shorts right away. Because of school policies and their screw up, my daughter won't be able to attend gym class tomorrow or until she get them shorts. Looks like she's a few weeks away to get them since I need to send these unwanted pants to them before they send me the shorts that I've ordered in the first place. No wonder our school are looking elsewhere for manufacturing uniforms. With service like this , you'll be out of work in no time. I had a recent fantastic experience at R.J. McCarthy's. We have four kids at schools requiring uniforms, only one of which sources from McCarthy's. In comparison to the stores on school premises and that of one competitor, the experience at McCarthy's was superlative. Check-in / registration was efficient and well organized. On a rainy day three weeks before school the wait time (in a seated waiting area) was less than 20 minutes. A young sales associate had our file (from check-in), guesstimated my daughter's sizes for the required items, and retrieved them in short order from their stock. There were ample change rooms and we were through the sizing in another 20 minutes or so. Our file was then bagged with the items and we proceeded to check out...overall painless, pleasant and efficient. read more

Customer service is nonexistent. A single shirt was ordered almost 2 months ago well in time for delivery before the first day of school and now we are headed into October and still no shirt. Don't bother trying to call - you end up on hold with a lovely message telling you that you are "56 in cue". The local store doesn't answer the phone and has zero stock which leaves you to order on line... And wait for two months... It's like a circle of crappy service. I ordered my son's uniform online ONE MONTH before school started and I'm still waiting for the delivery of this uniform items. I try calling to get an update and I'm always #40 in the queue so you can only imagine how many others are probably calling regarding their order status. My daughter's school store location is shut down. If you are an individual trying to contact RJ McCarthy customer service will not be of any help to you. The reps have no clue as to what they are doing, but they are very good at giving you the runaround. I actually ended up having to get our school principal to contact the regional rep in order to actually have the pants that I paid for 2 weeks prior to be mailed to me. There is more to this story, but quite frankly, I am too tired to relay it. All this for a pair of pants!! How difficult can it be? I also agree with the two other reviewers: the clothes are poor quality, they shrink very easily (even when you follow the company's listed wash & care instructions), and their sizing chart is not accurate. It is almost 5 Weeks since I ordered a vest online for my daughter and it has not even been shipped yet. My order status still says "B" which means on back order. I have made several phone calls and no nobody even cares to give me a reasonable explanation. Monopoly belongs to the dark ages!!! This is the worst company I have ever dealt with. It is a shame. Don't even deserve a one star rating. Terrible inventory management and service here. We visited their Scarborough store the last week in August and they were out of inventory on adult XS golf shirts and boys pants size 16. A store associate searched their inventory and told me my items were in stock at other store locations/warehouse and if I paid now those items would be picked and shipped for me and they would contact me when our items arrived, typically within 2 weeks. Luckily, my son wore his grade 7 pieces for the first 2 months this school year. Well, several emails, phone calls and store visits (mis-info by staff) later, my final angry email drew attention to office management. My next step was to contact their company president and our school principal (to drop using RJ). My last back-ordered item arrived the following week in October. Unbelievable terrible monopoly. Need competition to make these guys care. read more
