I agree with other comments that if you don't have a huge project needing done McDaniel's does not want to be bothered. In October 2025, we chose to remodel our bathroom. We chose McDaniel's because we prefer to support local when possible, and we felt we would receive more personal and professional care from them than from a big box store. Nicole R. (our designer, who was more of a salesperson than a designer) was a total disappointment. Her communication skills were almost non-existent. We were often waiting days to weeks (even with reminders) for her to return a call or an email. When she chose to communicate, she was abrupt, condescending, scattered in her thoughts, and made promises to appease us, but later nothing came of her promises. It is now April and the project is still not completed. We had to pay $100 before McDaniel's would measure the area. Nicole did not accurately measure the height of the vanity and the length and height of the side-splash resulting in me either not using the side-splash or paying to have the new drywall cut into in order to move the electrical up. On February 5th I sent Nicole a picture of the error and she said she "would be out ASAP." Later that day she emailed that she would be out March 9th. Upon sharing my concerns about the length of the side splash Nicole explained that it was customary to measure the side splash longer than needed and the construction people would cut or grind it to the correct size. I cannot imagine all contractors have the tools to do this. As far as the electrical outlet placement and the height of the side splash is concerned Nicole agreed it was not acceptable and offered cutting it to 1" in height. I told her that was not acceptable and that I wanted the electrical moved up. She agreed if it was her house that is what she would want done and said she would immediately get with their construction person. Not ours, theirs, since it was her mistake. I waited another three weeks and two days to be contacted by him, all the while reminding Nicole every week that we needed closure. On March 24th Eric from Granite Construction called. He said he would have someone out that afternoon and was going to email me a work order for my signature. I waited approximately 30 minutes but rather than the work order I received the name of an electrician and told that I would have to pay for the repair. In total frustration I contacted the owner/manager of McDaniels, Don Jessup. He said he agreed with some of my points (many are not mentioned here) but since we used our own contractors, McDaniel's is not accountable. (Their contractors wanted $16,332 for a small, typical bathroom.). He offered to refund the side splash and six vanity handles (that I paid $90 for but never ordered), but since then he has chosen not to answer my emails about how I need to go about the return, paperwork, etc. At this point I feel I have given McDaniel's every opportunity to make things right before posting this review. I am hoping to save others the unprofessionalism and lack of respect I received. As of April 6th (today) I have not received any communication from Nicole regarding whether the electrical problem has been resolved, asking me if I was pleased with how the bathroom turned out, or thanking me for my business. Called for new countertops. Rough measure over the phone. Scheduled appointment for final measure. Clearly stated we would put 50% down at that time-zero risk, cash in the barrel head. Mike said he's come Wednesday at 3PM and then he could cut out of work early. (Nice priorities there.) Mike Jessup didn't show up for the appointment and when the appointment was supposed to happen I got another email, copy of hand written estimate thing that said I had to pay $100 or 50% before he would even show up. I reiterated that we were ready to go cash in hand when he got here he said never mind he didn't need my business. He was weird. He was rude. He was a no show. I think the best thing we can do for them is NOT BOTHER McDaniels Kitchen and Bath with any business. Run! You owe it to yourself to go where your business is appreciated. read more

We were very impressed with all the work from beginning to end pertaining to our kitchen remodel. The estimate was accurate, the prices were in line, the sales team of Kelly and Dave were informative and well prepared, and the workers who came into our home did an excellent job of demo and construction. In addition, every person we dealt with was friendly, patient, and professional. If we do further work in our home, we will definitely use McDaniels again. read more

I went to McDaniels last Wednesday to see about having a new bathroom vanity installed. My wife and I entered the building and no one greeted us. We wandered around until we happen to look into one of the offices and saw a woman at a desk. I ask if she could help us with the selection and installation of a bathroom vanity. She introduced herself as Nichole and said she would be happy to help us. With her help we picked out a vanity, vanity top and faucett fixtures. After we selected everything I ask her if they had someone who could install the vanity. She told me there was and the installer would have to come out rto look at the area where the installation would take place. I ask her if there was a charge for that. She said yes, a $100. I told her I was not going to pay someone a $100 to come out and tell me in 2 seconds that a vanity could be installed. She said well if I took pictures and sent them in the installer wouldn't have to come out That made sense to me so when we were done, she said she would get busy writing up the quote and get it to us within a couple of hours. Never hear from her Thursday Friday, Saturday or Sunday. I go on to see he Monday and she wasn't there, the receptionist telling me she worked from home on Monday. After explaining my situation, I left a message with the receptionist saying to let Nichole know that she didn't want my business to let me know and I could go someplace else. I was assured that my business was wanted and she would let Nichole know that I stopped by. I am writing this Tuesday evening at pm and still no message or contact from Nicole. I have read previous reviews that stated if somoene didn't buy complete remodels McDaniel's wasn't interested. I believe those reviews now. What a waste of my time. I even written to the owner and have heard nothing. Save yourself some time and go elsewhere. If this is the way they treat customers, no wonder there reviews are so bad. read more

McDaniels has an amazing showroom that really helped us make our decision for the cabinets we wanted. They have so much on display and being able to touch and feel the materials is exactly what we needed to know we were making the right decision. We've had a few people over since the cabinets were installed and those who know have commented on the quality of them and are really impressed. It's nice knowing that not only do we love our kitchen, but it will look good for a long time to come. read more

My impression is that if you don't want a full remodel, they don't want to waste their time with you. I went in asking about a special type of countertop that I had seen online. After determining that I didn't need new cabinets, the suddenly disinterested salesperson told me they didn't carry it and no one she knew of carried it around Lansing. Based on some of her other comments, I'm not even sure she really understood what I was asking for. Then she went on about how difficult it would be for me to measure and install the countertops even if I could order them online. OK, I really was hoping that they knew how to do the measuring and installation even if I had to special order from some other place - that's why I went in. Instead, it seems if you aren't interested in the full package remodel, you aren't worth their time. They may do great work, I don't know. I didn't get passed the customer service. read more

McDaniels did a great job on my bathroom. They coordinated the process very well. I would have and should have hired them for my kitchen but I wanted a detailed breakout of my costs so I could decide if I wanted to take on any of the projects myself...I never got it. I went the cheap route and regretted it. Things that I appreciated: The talent of the team that came to inspect my house. They knew right away what they could and couldn't do and why. It was a tight project and the other company's sent only person with limited knowledge. The project was on time. They worked with me to listen to my ideas and provide feedback. The end result is a piece of heaven in my bathroom. Things that kept them from a 5 star in my book: I don't understand why I didn't get an itemized list. A little expensive, but arguably worth it. I should have ensured all parts of the project were in the contract. I had a cove in the shower and it's very nice, but it wasn't in the project so it almost didn't get done, plus I should have specified size. I had a shelf put on the long wall of the shower/bath. It came out more than expected because there was dispute between the tilers and contractors. Overall I would recommend them and do business again. read more

Several months ago I decided to upgrade my kitchen. My plan is to sell my home several years from now and know my home needs to be move-in ready. I started with the installation of a new floor and quickly realized I needed new countertops. At this point I decided to enlist the assistance of McDaniel's Kitchen and Bath. I was introduced to Kelly who scheduled a time to come to my house, take measurements, pictures and make recommendations. Kelly's time and effort, of course, cost a nominal fee. My idea for new countertops quickly morphed into a complete kitchen remodel. My friends and family pestered me to remove the wall between the kitchen and dining room, which would open up my already open floor plan. When Kelly and the contractor I chose for the remodel suggested the same, I decided it was time to remove the wall and replace everything in the kitchen. Best decision I've made in a long time. Kelly and her co-worker Tracie worked diligently to find cabinets and countertops to match the existing kitchen floor and hickory floors from the dining room. It took many trips back and forth between all of us with countertop, cabinet and flooring samples before making a final decision. Decisions were made and dates set for the beginning of the project. I was told by the contractor, the process would take approximately six weeks. I think in a perfect world, this could be an accurate estimation of time, but something always happens to delay a project. Vacations, illnesses, change orders, material delays, etc. With a project of this magnitude, my expectation was perfection. Two of the cabinets delivered were the wrong size. I'm not sure of the origin of the problem, but Aaron from McDaniel's had replacement cabinets delivered by the next week. When the appliances arrived, the contractor pointed out the oven/stove top was not dual fuel, as I had requested. A miscommunication resulted in me getting an electric oven/stove top. I signed off on every single page of ordered material; therefore, this was partially my fault and one I would have to live with. Nope! Aaron worked with me to get the dual fuel oven/stove top I wanted. Once again, perfection was expected and met. Several thoughts and suggestions for going through a remodel process: Carefully read every page of your order before signing or initialing. You're going to be excited to get the process going. Make sure you're getting what you want. Be patient. Your house is going to be a mess and in disarray for a while. Even though your contractor will put up visqueen to separate the remodeled area from the rest of your home, there will still be dust. Be present or have someone you trust present during the process. There will be questions, some of significance, which require immediate answers. Time lines are only estimates. More than likely your project will take longer than estimated. There are a number of people involved in the process (electricians, painters, plumbers, deliveries), all of whom can cause a hiccup. Get to know the designers working with you. You don't need to be best buds, but knowing them and them knowing you helps with design decisions. I highly recommend McDaniel's for kitchen or bath remodels. They have knowledgeable and friendly staff. There are a multitude of displays. There are many samples of countertop materials, backsplash materials, flooring, hardware, etc. If they don't have what you're looking for, they don't hesitate to recommend other resources such as Builders Plumbing and Heating Supply and Builder's Hardware. read more

The design phase went well, however, afrter eight weeks, the $8,000 cabinets were delivered (and paid for) but had flaws in them. Replacements were ordered and it took ANOTHER six weeks for delivery. Meanwhile, McDaniels left the flawed cabinets in my family room. When we finally received the new cabinets I called and was told they would investigate why it took so long for the replacements. I have never received a call or a reason for all the delays. Poor customer service. read more

Would NEVER us this company again. Would never recommend them to anyone. Spend $47,000 on Grabill cabinets alone. This does not include the cost to install with my own builder/installer. Problem - The custom range hood was the wrong size! Requested the owner (Mr. Jessup) come to my home to look at the problem. His advise was to either buy a new hood insert to accommodate the incorrect hood or order a new custom hood from Grabill. He NEVER offered to help with this error by Grabill/McDaniels. In fact, I had to write to him three months later to recover the cost of the new hood insert and installation. We had to handle this ourselves as we never heard from him again. Buyer BEWARE. read more

This gets a little messy so let me put it this way - Our objective: A significant enhancement to our kitchen in the form of; construction modifications to our counter-tops / removal of existing laminate tops / selection, purchase and installation of 105 sq. ft. of granite / installation of in- and under-cabinet lighting / installation of expansive back-splash and installation of several new appliances. McDaniels' role: We knew what we wanted so design services were unnecessary. McDaniels was responsible for purchasing our selected granite, assigning the fabricator, purchasing the new granite composite sink, providing the electrician with lighting products and seeing that the back-splash installer had tile and grout delivered to our site in time for installation. (McDaniels' affiliate) Granite Construction Company's role: GCC did the construction and removal of existing laminate counter-top and the assignment/management of multiple independent contractors to see the project completed. The Pro's: Each and every professional Granite Construction Company had on-site delivered expert craftsmanship, minimized any inconvenience to us and performed their duties promptly at the scheduled time. We were and are so appreciative for their excellent work on our behalf. The Con's: Of the five items for which MK&B was responsible, three developed hitches that we and (McDaniels' owner) Don Jessup were eventually able to overcome. Don's a first-class guy and took an active role in fixing problems that arose. It did mean some extra miles and anxiety on our part but we were able to help get the job done. Bottom Line: We are hugely happy with our new kitchen. We didn't allow hiccups to get in the way and took a personal role in making sure we stayed on track. Our advice to you: For those considering MK&B for similar projects, we suggest you ask specifically for a team member who has been recommended to you. As I say, we knew what we wanted but you should work with an experienced professional in whom you can have confidence but keep an eye out for missteps. They can and do often occur and it's your house, your money and your peace of mind . . . so pay attention! Roger M. read more

By far the worst company I've ever worked with. Not only were mistakes continuously made, there was no accountability just excuses. Apparently a $18k job isn't big enough for them. I have a laundry list of issues, setbacks, and communication issues even after working with 2 different designers and having the owner out to visit my home! A visit which basically ended with my husband telling him were were finished and asking him to leave our home because he was so unhelpful and showed no concern for the issues we'd been having. For my project, I was adding one floor to ceiling wall oven cabinet to my kitchen, putting in an island, new countertops and new backsplash. I stopped everything once the cabinet was ordered because I had had enough. I don't understand how this company is in business. I'm all about giving local companies business, but this was a DISASTER. They need some serious customer service and communication training. Multiple times I'd go weeks without a promised call back or email. It got to the point where they had to find out second had from our 3rd party countertop template guy that we were no longer doing business with them. I wouldn't wish working with McDaniels on my worst enemy it was that bad. read more

Remodeling your home is one of the biggest - and most expensive! - decisions a homeowner makes. When my husband and I finally decided to take the plunge and remodel our kitchen and master bathroom we started out by getting referrals from friends and relatives and attending the Lansing Home Show at MSU. After narrowing the list of contractors down to a manageable five, we began the process of talking specifics with each. Everyone we consulted was friendly, professional, and competitively priced but when we got to McDaniels and met Nicole Dagen we knew our search had come to an end! From the moment we met, Nicole shared our excitement and truly listened to us. Not only is she a gifted designer and consummate professional, she's a wonderful person who obviously cares about her clients and is genuinely invested in her work. I can say unequivocally that it was Nicole's skilled guidance that transformed our ideas into sophisticated reality and we feel very blessed to have had her in our corner. With Nicole representing McDaniels and Dave Feldpausch as liaison with their partner Granite Construction, I don't think we could have asked for a better experience. Our project manager, Jeremy Craig, was absolutely awesome, stopping by regularly and checking in via text. He answered all our questions, monitored progress, and always had his finger on the pulse of the project. To McDaniel's credit, everyone we met along the way was friendly and helpful - and the work crews all cleaned up after themselves (YAY!!) - special kudos to Allen and James who were especially wonderful!!! So, here's the bottom line - if you're considering remodeling your home put McDaniels at the top of your list, you really need go no further!!! read more

We had high hopes for McDaniels, based on positive reviews from family members. Sadly, they don't seem to take much interest in responding to clients anymore. Jim L. came to our home to discuss replacing our kitchen counter tops. He seemed friendly and knowledgeable, and promised to send an estimate as well as schedule someone else to come and take exact measurements soon. Two months later, no estimate received and no measurements have been taken. We have left 3 voice mails, and sent two emails requesting follow-up, and no one has bothered to respond to us. It's been a frustrating experience, and now our kitchen remodeling is way behind schedule. read more

Our kitchen needed a serious upgrade/possible remodel with old tile countertops, cracked flooring, dated fixtures and appliances from the 80's. The cabinets were Grabill, which apparently are the equivalent of having a Lamborghini versus a Ford in the cabinet world. The cabinets were in great shape but the drawers and doors had been beaten up so badly that they needed to be replaced. When all was looked at, we chose McDaniels as they worked with Grabill and we were able to replace the doors and drawers at a much reduced cost vs new cabinetry ($6k vs $20k+). We asked for help from a designer, Julie, who was professional and helpful. She came to the house twice and we met in the office as well. She listened to our requests and designed a package including the countertop, tile, backsplash, appliances and cabinetry. Granite Construction is really the star of the show because they worked within the guidelines of the contract. They were timely, they cleaned up each day and most importantly, troubleshooted problems as they showed up quickly and with good results. Granite also had the plumber and electrician hired with new lighting and under cabinet lighting installed. The project was completed almost in time- there was an issue where an electrical piece was needed and it took about a week past the project end to have that installed. We had one issue with the dishwasher; the package selected had a handle on the door and because the dishwasher was next to a corner, you could not open the door without hitting the hardware on the cabinetry next to it. We had to get another dishwasher without a handle and it took about two weeks before it was installed. I have to say, that the attention to detail was stellar other than those issues. The resulting kitchen is beautiful and a joy to work in. We are very pleased and would highly recommend McDaniels and Granite Construction. read more

I was very pleased with the quality of work and customer service I received from Jennifer Behrens and from Joe (Granite Construction). I had a very small budget and Jennifer did a great job of staying within it but still providing quality service. The appliances Jennifer recommended are great and Jennifer made good recommendations on the counter top. Granite construction did a really great job of modifying my existing cabinets to accommodate the new dishwasher and microwave range hood. I would definitely recommend them for any remodel. read more
