Within the confines of Terminal 1, Hermann's seemed like my best option. I had the rindwurst with sauerkraut and a beer, and it felt like a perfect little Frankfurt experience. The rindwurst had a nice snap to it, and good flavor. This was food I would have been happy to eat even if I wasn't stuck at an airport. I liked it enough that a couple hours later I went back for another, and also tried the surprisingly great potato salad and a serviceable pretzel that in retrospect I could have done without. If I'm at the Frankfurt Airport again, I would definitely get a rindwurst and potato salad. Service was friendly on both visits. The decor was cute and the place was comfortable enough. Prost!

Instead, we found an International menu with popular burgers from the UK, Canada, Portugal, Japan, Malaysia, and Mexico. The ordering kiosks were closed, so we couldn't browse the regular menu. It was 10 minutes before closing time. The manager was rushing us to order. The young employees in the kitchen were looking at him as if waiting for his signal to leave. Yet, there were 2 other customers (besides us) that needed to place an order. I get it. Everyone wants to go home. We didn't really have time to think through what we wanted. We didn't even know if they had Big Macs, so we ordered from the only menu we could see. I don't like Teriyaki sauce, so that eliminated a couple of burgers. The maple BBQ sauce looks & sounds disgusting on a burger. We ended up going with the Philly Cheese Stack. It's popular in the UK, which is odd that it's named after a cheesesteak sandwich. It has grilled & crispy onions and a cheese sauce. It looked good in the picture. In actuality, it was no bueno. It was the beef patties that really let me down. The crispy onions were mushy. I wouldn't get it again. The fries were good. They were crispy & hot. That was the only good part of the meal. All the straw dispensers were empty. I think they should just remove the dispensers. It's confusing. The manager tried to explain why they don't have them. I'm pretty sure it's because the airport is very green, and single-use plastics have been banned in the EU. They allowed us to eat at the restaurant. I was grateful for that. The manager showed us how to get out when done. The way he said it sounded rude, but I know better. It's the language barrier. He's just trying to close up, and get his employees home at a decent time. I think our experience would have been better had we arrived earlier in the day. It's a very cool looking McDonald's that has its own 2nd floor space at the top of the escalator. It's big and spacious. I can see that it is bright in the daytime due to the windowed infrastructure. There's a unique rocket playground for kids. Go during the day so that you can take your time ordering at the kiosk. Go somewhere else if you're there between 9:30pm and 10pm. We probably should have chosen Burger King.

Typical McDonald's but this place is massive and has like 35 ordering screens. They do sit down…read moredelivery service as well as to go and counter pick up. They have good items here that aren't available at other McDonald's in the area, which is kind of cool, especially since they have "pancake bites" and their version of a breakfast burrito, except with lettuce. I dunno. Not bad though, it's more expensive than one outside an airport but not bad.

I've visited their Z gates location and had a connection in A gates (this one is actually at A16)…read more so stopped for a Beef Sausage. Similar to their other location, It's a food stand with coffee, some sandwiches, pretzels, soft drinks and I saw a couple of cans of beer. Like their Rindswurst, Beef Sausage had a nice snap and link is too big for the Bun (a good thing). Standard condiments including Mayo, Relish and Pickles. Friendly service behind the counter. A little later than last time at 9 am but I can still say it was Breakfast. Well worth the stop!

Frankfurt was one of my transfer points going to/from Bangalore, India this week. These Hermann's…read morestands are at several points in the terminal and serve a great (by my US standards) hot dog. You can get three types of sausage in the dog and they serve a curry dog in a basket as well. Big sausages. I've tried the pork and the beef - both great. I got mine with everything on it. This means mustard, ketchup, mayo, pickles and onion crisps on top. Potential for mess, but a tasty mess. They have bottled drinks, including beer, in the cart. I love the bite of these dogs. They are plump, juicy and have a pop when I bite into them. Great stuff. Makes the trip a little less arduous and something to look forward to during layovers in Frankfurt. I can't help it - great frankfurter in Frankfurt!

After dropping off our bags, I decided to go to Burger King since it was really close to the hotel we were staying at. I immediately went to the kiosk and made my purchase of a whopper meal. The prices really reasonable considering I was at an airport and I expected inflated prices. The food was made to order and I received it within 5 minutes despite the growing crowd. The restaurant itself had plenty of seating and the customer service spoke English.
