However, today as I pulled in on the way through the area, past 4 other options, with two hungry toddlers at 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon, I got out to find the door locked, even though the hours posted both on the door and on yelp said 9 o'clock. There was staff clearly within line-of-sight, but neither made any attempt to explain why the early closure. So I called. Surprisingly, one of the young lady answered the phone, and I asked why were they closing at a time inconsistent with the hours posted on the door and on yelp? She explained that the owner has decided to close early because of road conditions this morning. Well, this was not morning, but was eight hours later with the roads perfectly clear and the temperature in the high 30s. Ice on roadways was nowhere to be found within 50 miles of this place. And, more to the point, there was no explanation on the door. Just two young staff members ill-equipped to offer a simple version of customer service by way of explanation or a sharpie written sign posted on the door. Ultimately, we got our Subway fix 20-miles to the north in Nashville, Illinois, fully staffed and open until 9:00, just as the door said. #disappointing.

As we stood there waiting for our order (two happy meals, one chicken sandwich, a small coffee, and two small waters), I watched one young man run at least seven orders outside to cars that were waiting. At least four of those orders included happy meals. After I inquired about my food, there was suddenly movement in my favor. I received the food and two cups for me to fill with water within 3-4 minutes after my inquiry. After filling the waters, I requested a drink carrier. I thought that was a simple request, but it took another few minutes for the young lady to find one for us. By the time we returned to the car, the arrival time on my GPS was a full hour later than when we arrived at McDonald's. The only good news is that the girls happily ate their meals in silence as I drove and attempted to recollect myself after an unintentionally long stop. The restaurant is beautifully designed, having clearly been updated recently. The staff is friendly enough. It is definitely not worth the long wait that we endured. My attached picture is of the one unpopulated corner of the restaurant in the time that we were in there.
