It is marker number 157-31 and was erected in 1960 by Georgia Historical Commission. The marker reads, "This museum shows the splendors of plantation life in Georgia before the War Between the States, displays relics, mementos and keepsakes of the era that tried men's souls, and adds a fine collection of Indian relics for variety. "Washington had many ties with the Confederacy. The Confederate Cabinet held its last meeting just down the street. President Jefferson Davis met his wife and daughter in this city at the end of the war. Mr. Davis' field desk and camp chest are on display. The well named Last Cabinet Chapter of the U.D.C. has on display many precious keepsakes and mementos of the war, together with Joe Brown Pikes, guns, swords, pistols, documents, and pictures. "The big house dates back to about 1800. It was occupied after 1857 by Samuel Barnett, first Georgia Railroad Commissioner, and W.A. Slaton, forty-year occupant. Washington's benefactor, Dr. Francis T. Willis, half-brother of Mr. Barnett, lived with him here. Francis T. Willis moved to Richmond, Va., in his later years but told his sons that he wanted his ante-bellum furniture returned to Washington when there was a place for it. Edward Fauntleroy Willis, brought the furniture from Richmond. It makes a beautiful display." I do have an interest in Confederate history having visited a couple of CSA museums as well as the home in Mississippi where Jefferson Davis wrote his memoirs. As soon as we arrived Michelle and Frankie were there to greet our group and gave us a wonderful tour of the house and the history. They run an amazing summer camp for students in the summer time for about a month, so if you're looking for something for Middle School to high school students to do that is both fun and educational, I would highly suggest the museum. The food is amazing, the grounds are incredibly beautiful, and its historical significance is fascinating. I completely enjoyed my time and will definitely be back sometime in the future.

There are three primary rooms. The entrance room is pretty empty and would be great for dancing or a photo area. However, we just used it as a coat room and the bridal party ate in a large table in here. Another room has a projector screen that is probably used for cinemas. We used this room with many long tables for eating. The last room has a bar area, couches, and a couple bar tables and stools. We served the food in here at the bar and had games at the couches and coffee tables. There is a single stall women's and single stall men's room; both of which are very clean. The last area is a mini kitchen which has an industrial sink, food storage heating stand-up, and an oven. My only complaint is that there are essentially no utensils in their kitchen.

The city calls it a children's museum but really it's more of a play area. They have different sections. One for reading and putting on plays, one for imagination play and one for arts and crafts. My son thoroughly enjoys every visit we make and I love that we are able to partake in pretend play with him as his mind and imagination grow! They have also just installed a brand new playground that is open to the public. The only downfall aside from being ridiculously tiny and feeling overcrowded when there is more than 5 parents in there is that you have to pay for a membership in order to use the facility. If the whole area was open to the public and not just the playground I definitely feel like we would make more trips there. But other than that it's a great place to let your children's minds wander and explore!

It is a shame we were turned away from this performance, even after we purchased reserved seats well before the performance. We drove from Atlanta (100+ miles) to attend It's A Wonderful Life. Atlanta traffic combined with fog alerts along the way resulted in our arriving at 7:40 for a 7:30pm show. Embarrassed, we apologized at the door. The *wonderful* usher assured us it was no problem and that the play hadn't started. Fortunately we'd purchased aisle seats near the back and hoped to enter without a fuss. Suddenly a most unfriendly woman with a laptop asked us our names. We told her, only to be informed she had resold our tickets. "You should have been on time!" (We really tried!). We were stunned. We tried to discuss, but this woman was clearly intent on teaching us a lesson, as publicly as possible. Mortified, I asked about a refund: "You should have been on time!" We left and drove home 100+ miles. After writing several letters and explaining the situation, we were begrudgingly promised a refund. The theater publishes no policy on the ticket or their website warning that tardiness will result in tickets being forfeited without a refund. On the contrary, their policy states you will be seated, but at the first appropriate time (we agree!). We consider this theft of property we had purchased and are considering further action. We bought the tickets. We arrived before the play started, apologized profusely, and fully complied with the theater's terms and conditions. We fully expected to be seated at the first appropriate time. None of this made any difference. It's ironic that the theme of the performance (It's a Wonderful Life) was apparently lost on some of the event staff.
