Had my first appointment today (3/24/25). As soon as you walk in you get that "barber shop" feel. I had an 11:00am appointment with Ray and I arrived about 6-7 mins early and took a seat to wait my turn. He had someone in his chair that he was finishing up. He called for me promptly at 11:00. I walked up to him, shook his hand and introduced myself. I hopped up in the chair which was an "old school" barber shop chair. He asked me what I was looking to have done. As he started with a scissor cut, which I prefer, we just talked about random stuff (where you live, where you from, a little background from both of us, etc.). I was out within 20 minutes which is great. It's amazing how much you can learn about someone in 20 mins. Ray did a very good job on my hair and I was very satisfied with it. First time in a decade that I decided to get my hair cut in a barber shop! Since 2009, I lived in Dunedin sooo.. Why not go a little historic and come to McGuire's, est. 1949! I went old school and got into "Mo's" chair. I didn't even know what I was going to ask for. I'm already bold on top with a horseshoe hair line so I asked for one length to the hairline, got rid of the curls, and threw the dice. Mo nailed it! I loved my experience. Well, after relocating to Dunedin, I was looking for a good barbershop to cut my hair. Someone had recommended McGuire's , so I made an appointment to give it a shot. Morris cut my hair, and I was very satisfied with the cut. And I have to say, I haven't had a straight razor used on my neck and around my ears in a long, long time. I have needed my hair cut for a couple of weeks and have been waiting for shops/salons to open up (and for the rush for haircuts to lessen). I could not seem to connect with the salon I had been frequenting since I moved to Florida in 2014, so I went to Yelp, of all places. Imagine that! :-) It has been quite some time since I have been to an actual, honest to goodness, barber shop. You remember them, right? The establishments sporting a Barber Pole, which, by the way, is the trade sign that dates back to the Middle Ages. McGuire's is not quite that old. Established in 1949, located in downtown Dunedin. Gotta say...this is as good as it gets for me. Joe, my new, now regular barber, asked what I wanted and he gave me exactly what I told him in terms of my cut. No more. No less. Exact. Can't ask for much more than that. Except for, something I have not had for decades, a razor cut with foam, on the backside of my neck. Oh, and they offer a discount for cash, not card. Gotta love that! Almost forgot, great conversation! Right now, as businesses have been opening back up, they are practicing appointment-only and waiting outside until you are called inside. Visiting my friend in Florida for a few weeks and needed a haircut so looked some up on yelp. This place came up with 5 stars so decided to give a shot. Absolutely love this little shop. Tiny cute little place on the corner, three seats inside. People there were super nice and made us feel very welcome. The man who cut my hair did a great job and was so sweet, we loved talking to him the whole time. I've been looking for a "go to" barber shop for quite a awhile, I found McGuires online and there was an appointment available so I took it. When I walked in, there were 3 Barbers, 2 with customers. I didn't get greeted by anybody when I came in, which was a bit awkward, and Morris just asked my name and I told him and he said, "yea, I'm ready for you", that was pretty much all he said without prompting him. It's not like I'm big into long conversations with someone I just met, but at least basic pleasantries would've been nice. While sitting there, my phone rang, and of course I sent it to voicemail, then I got a spam text, at which time he says, "Now, can't you go 15 or 20 minutes without messing with your phone?", I said something along the lines of " it's been quiet all morning until I came in here, it just figures", and he didn't say anything else, except if I wanted to add a tip when it came time to pay. The haircut itself was good, but Morris has the personality of a Sea Slug and needs to learn some manners. I hate to leave 1 star because the other guys in the shop were friendly. I would recommend the place, just don't get Morris unless you want to sit in Silence and have him berate you if your phone rings. read more

My friend and I were looking for a good barbershop in the Pinellas area and we decided to come here. I was looking for a specific haircut and was really skeptical if someone could do that. So, I took a chance and I'm really happy I did. I've gone to Jason a few times now. He knew exactly what I wanted and you can tell he's very passionate about what he does and all he wants is to make sure you are happy with your hair. That's so important to me as I'm very particular about my hair. Everyone is really friendly there and it has a real barbershop feel to it. Its only $12 for a cut and i feel thats totally fair. I guess it's good thing that he retired. Except you should leave someone in charge, Moe, someone who'll look out for your business and customers -- so you keep your customers coming back. If you truly want to encourage customers to return to your store -- and if you opt to retire and be an ABSENTEE LANDLORD -- then train your staff in COURTESY. The day I was there -- promptly on time for my appointment -- I was left outside in the SWELTERING heat. My barber, Jason, and the others saw me. He knew me. Knew he was LATE getting to me. Yet no one, neither he nor they, responded while I, an elderly senior, was forced to stand outside your store sweltering. I left that day and permanently. I found a new barber. And my haircuts are far superior. And, as an added bonus, much LESS EXPENSIVE. Moe, courtesy and good customer service stem from the top. TRAIN YOUR STAFF IN CUSTOMER SERVICE. This place is horrible! Do not ever go to this place at all! I came in today. This guy who cut my hair was sloppy and did not do a well job at all. He did not even follow the instructions I asked him to do with my hair. I had to remind him THREE times on how to do my hair. #1 shave on back and side isn't hard to understand, right? He didn't even really trim my top completely. My hair is all messed up. I don't even think this guy who did my hair even have a certificate or is licensed to cut hair at all. Now, I have to go to another salon to have my hair cut again and pay more?!?!? Two hair salons to go and pay in one day. Crazy. My husband has been getting his hair cut here for about a year and is always very satisfied. I am writing a review on his behalf after exemplary customer service last week. My husband's new job has very long hours and he usually doesn't get home until after McGuire's normal closing hours. He was in desperate need of a haircut (trust me, it was bad) and let the barber know that he would not be able to make it during normal business hours. They kept the shop open for him so that he could have his hair fixed when they absolutely didn't need to do that. We were in the area for breakfast and I needed a haircut so I decided to give this place a try since we have some lousy places in Clearwater. Note this place is cash only! The place is small but has an inviting feel to it. You can tell several locals come to this location. I waited a few minutes until Morris called me up. I asked for my hair to be cut like I always do and he did an excellent job just the way I liked it. Cleaned up the sides and lined me up nicely. He shaved the sides and tapered me off the ol' fashioned way. He even cleaned up my eyebrows. I left feeling refreshed and excited knowing I find my new barbershop from this point on. read more

Best haircut I have had? Possibly. Best overall experience I have had in a barbershop?Definitely. McGuire's has the aesthetic of an old-school barbershop, complete with pole and retro hydraulic chairs that sigh with a "whoosh" when you sit. I arrived behind three other gentlemen, one a youth of my own age, one a baby boomer, and the final an old timer with knee-high socks. The diversity was a harbinger of the hairgasm to come. When it was my turn, Joe, one of the two barbers working, beckoned me over with a friendly smile and the typical, "What can I do for ya?" I gave him my preferences and he started snipping and buzzing away, as Reverend Al Green sang over the radio waves. Our conversation was compelling. Joe told me stories of growing up in Detroit when Motown and the auto industry was at its peak. We talked about lineage and our ancestors' lives when they came through Ellis Island in the early 20th century. Did you know that pre-WWI, coal miners had a designated "bird man" who would carry a caged bird to into the mines every day? If the bird died, the men knew they had only minutes flee the area as they blew like hell on the whistles around there necks to alert their compatriots of a deadly buildup of gases. I digress ... So the haircut itself was magical. Lines straight as arrows, even on all sides with a clean shave along the neck to leave you feeling fresh. You can't beat the price, and after you leave the extravagant tip this shop deserves you will walk out smug with the knowledge that you have discovered one of this area's best-kept secrets. 10/10, would recommend to all men with hair. read more

Price is fantastic too, $13 if using credit card $12 if cash and that included the beard trim. My beard was looking ferrel but I still wanted it full. John gave me the perfect beard length and shaped it well. My wife will be pleased. 10:00 am during the week is a good time to go and be served immediately. I went here for a haircut and a straight razor shave. The haircut was great, the shave was not. The haircut was everything I asked for, (which is a pretty simple request of clipper numbers for the side and top.) The shave however, was horribly painful, (yes I shave with a razor blade every day in case you were wondering), and also once he was "done" I noticed several spots that he had missed. Instead of having him scrape my face up some more to fix these spots, I went home and used my own razor to fix it. Although I will most likely never get another straight razor shave here, that doesn't mean I won't be going back for a haircut. Some people like to have a nice long conversation with their barber while getting their haircut, and if that's you, well lets just say it's a gamble here. Some barbers here like to talk up a storm, while others just ask what kind of haircut you'd like and are mostly silent from that point until they're done. All in all I give McGuire's Barbershop a 3 out of 5. Come here for the great haircuts, not for the shave. read more

I went here with a group of Groomsmen for us to get a shave before the wedding. The groom called the day before and they were very accommodating to us. We had two of the barbers, Morris and John, work on just us and we were in and out in about an hour. The shave was great and only $20. No one got a haircut but it said it was only $12 dollars for one. There seemed to also be a steady stream of regulars that were coming in, all of which were being cut by the third barber. I personally may never make it back there again since I live in California but would definitely recommend for anyone else looking for a shave before a wedding. read more
