I was charged 3000 for income and assets and debts that I did a lot of work on but I guess the paralegal needed 15 hours when it took me 1 hour but instead of having a 2nd meeting she just charged me because they new I might cancel my divorce. They seemed eager to take themselves off as attorney before the court date which I attended on my own . They ask for a ton of paperwork and then charge a ton to go through it, even if you submit things to help. They were nice until I asked about the billing then they both blamed me. I don't believe this Law office provides 5 stars and I think the good reviews are fake. I got a final bill and told the attorney about my intentions on the review and she said i didn't mention I was overcharged which insults my intelligence because she obviously knew it and did nothing to to provide a small refund or apologize. I waited until the holidays were over to address it as a courtesy. You are better off doing the work yourself upfront if you use this law office. They give you some false low start cost but quickly exceed to even more than much more professional law offices. We ended up only having one asset to split after all the charges and that was the house. But finding that out first would cut into their profits. Also we kept our own debts so that became of no consequence. I cancelled and she didn't so they basically wanted off because I confronted them on overcharging. Most of this was done by the paralegal who is suppose to handle things and not be as expensive as the lawyer but they took advantage and I hope they will think about their business practices. I will be leaving this review on several sites for the next few months. read more

Mandy McKellar completely wasted my money. She failed to read through my contract sufficiently and led me to believe something completely false that she "missed" seeing in the contract. When I emailed her to double check the specific paragraphs because I thought she missed something, she replied back with "I think it said...." without bothering to check. I ended up getting another lawyer to look it over and he was shocked to that another lawyer couldn't see something that he saw within 5 mins of looking it over. Unprofessional, would not recommend at all. Seemed very unknowledgeable. She would have ruined my reputation with a massive company and a very important job. read more

I had no intention of making my first ever review on Yelp a negative one, but I was compelled to say this about this firm: STAY. AWAY. STAY AWAY!!!! STAY AWAY!!!!  I feel the need to warn everyone about this law firm.  McKellar Law receives one star specifically due to their very aggressive billing tactics. Alyssa Aklestad was my attorney and, Dawn is her current paralegal.  There are many reasons that I was put off my this firm. It was apparent that they would cram for my case for just a few minutes before meetings with the opposing party or court hearings. This led me to believe that they did not know the main points of my case and would wing it. Also, their chosen strategy drained multiple retainers which resulted in nothing but a huge bill. A main issue was for the opposing party to follow the current court order, which should have been simple.  The multiple phone calls to set up these meetings and then the meetings themselves would cost nearly $1000.00 each time. Alyssa requested further meetings, which would cost even more money. No motions were ever filed against the other party for the numerous offenses they committed. The meetings accomplished nothing. The only people that benefited from the meetings were the lawyers getting paid. The other party continued to violate the court order multiple times after. Then, McKellar law firm would accept calls from the other party after the meetings simply to talk about the meetings. After receiving a $700 bill, I was contacted by Dawn, the paralegal, and not allowed to speak to Alyssa until I put down another retainer.  I was told my case would not be worked on until I did so. I paid my balance and gave instructions not to work on my case or bill me for anything else. Yet it turns out I was billed for telling them not to bill me, and some other mysterious charges dated before I paid my balance off yet popped up after I paid my balance. I was also billed for coming in without an appointment just to pay my bill and try to pick up my case because I was done. I was also billed for the back and forth emails that were my requests telling them not to work on my case. My emails were responded to days later. Alyssa Aklestad and/or Mckellar were never available for me to discuss my bill with them. This is not the way to treat any type of client, and if you go with this firm this is how you might be treated as well. I feel robbed, violated and by this firm that I hired to protect and represent me.  Save your money and time. STAY AWAY!!! You will need to devote a good amount of time double-checking their billing statements to avoid unnecessary charges. read more
