Mclaren Lapeer ER staff, especially RN Marina were great. Unfortunately, the short time with Urologist Dr. Chudler, was horrible. He was very rude, unaware of patients inability to hear or fully comprehend what he was saying. Made a rude statement when he was told patient couldn't hear him. I am responding to your request to contact you. If you wish for me to delete or change my review let me tell you that the only thing that I would do is edit it for errors otherwise I stand by my statement. My review is strictly of the doctor, detailing my experience with Ms Hollowell, (I will only address her as Ms not Dr because I do not deem her worthy of that distinction) what it is not is a review of your hospital or the practice where she now is a member.  My goal in writing the review is to inform potential patients of my experience and the personal consequences of my unfortunate medical encounter with Ms. Hollowell.  I am going to note that when I asked the hospital to recommend which doctor to see from the practice while scheduling my colonoscopy Ms. Hollowell was not it, she was however the one with the first available appointment. I now ask myself, was that my misfortune or my mistake? My second goal in writing the review is to inform the hospital and the practice of the potential liability that they may face by giving her surgical rights or employment within their practice.  I cannot change history, and undo what has happened to me, but I can inform others that there can be dire outcomes that they should be aware of by choosing Ms Hollowell as their surgeon. Everything I have stated in my review is what I experienced, what I have been informed by medical professionals that specialize in gastric surgery, and by information that was shared with me although I cannot personally verify others accounts for accuracy, I can only repeat it .  Again, this is simply a review of my experience. This has affected my DAILY life, my physical and mental health and been a financial burden that I cannot afford.  My motivation is so that no one else will have to experience what I have. No one else will wake up in the night with severe pain, no one else will have to be a prisoner of their home, no one else will have to fear driving a long distance, or getting on an airplane, or being anywhere that there is not a restroom readily accessible, no one else will get immediately sick from eating the smallest portion of food, no one else should be told that they now face a shortened lifespan, are more susceptible to certain cancers and illnesses, no one else will have to be frustrated, depressed, sad or angry that this was the outcome of a "routine procedure" meant for the betterment of their health not the demise of it.  And that none of the countless medical specialists that I have seen should feel the need to profusely apologize to me for something that they did not do. If sharing my story will help even one person avoid this outcome, then I have accomplished the bare minimum of the control that I have over this situation, with the sincere hope that it does not happen to them. I went to this emergency room for pain in my legs and back due to slipped disks and pinched nerves. I arrived at the hospital by ambulance and was taken into Er. I was check in and was ignored unless they needed something. Push the call button immediate attitude. At one point I was in so much pain I was crying and trying my hardest to get comfortable so I pushed the call button nurse came in offered me a pain med I had already been given that didn't work got all pissed off I said it wasn't working and left me there in pain for THREE HOURS with no substitute and no other help. The only nice nurse I had was the one in the morning the where wonderful and let me have the room after I was discharged so I could lay down instead of sitting in the waiting room since that was painful! I hope to NEVER go to those again read more

Serious Patient Safety Concerns -- Please Read My family's experience with this hospital was not only disappointing--it was dangerous. After my loved one was admitted for a severe foot injury requiring surgery, the hospital initially tried to discharge him without treatment, despite obvious signs that surgery was urgently needed. I had to push back with medical logic and advocate hard just to get them to take him seriously. When they finally agreed to perform surgery, they rushed it--and then discharged him just hours later while still groggy, confused, and clearly not in a safe state to leave. No clear instructions. No follow-up coordination. Worst of all: He went missing for five hours after they released him. I begged staff for help, and they told me to "call the authorities" because it was "no longer their responsibility." He eventually showed up at home--driving himself with a cast on his foot, still medicated from surgery. They also failed to prescribe enough pain medication to get him through the weekend before a follow-up, and the surgeon refused to return any of our calls. I tried repeatedly for hours, left messages through the operator, and even had family members try--but no response. It's been days. This entire experience shows a deep lack of care, communication, and basic responsibility. If I hadn't been actively advocating for him, who knows how much worse this could've been. Please be careful. Patients and families deserve better. read more

I had taken a bad fall injuring both feet and My knee , the service started out good and then the so called nurse came in , she was Rude , and acted as if she just didn't want to be there , after X-rays and a few other tests were done and showed no breaks , just that both feet had nasty cuts from the fall , the doctor said the nurse would clean them up and bandage them and I would be on my way , she came in said sign this , referring to discharge papers which she never gave me she threw the papers up on a cabinet , said follow up with doctor, and when I said , I was told you would at very least clean up and bandage this she snarled at me and informed me , I would have to do that when I get home , I was barely able walk , she ran out of the room I didn't even get a wheelchair to get me to the door , as she was going down the hall she pointed a direction and said you exit that way , my son grabbed a wheelchair to get me to the car ! UNBELIEVABLE that was absolutely the worst I have seen in the hospitals with regards to patient care and must say I understand why more and more people would rather die than walk into a hospital for abuse from staff that never should be there in the first place! My son was just at this so-called (10-5) hospital hell whole. He is in terrible pain, came for help, has not slept for over 2 days, when he can sleep he it is not very long due to his pain and this no-good for nothing place would not help him. What scum this place is!! Was it because he had no insurance. WHY!!!!!!!!!!!?????????? I want to know why a so-called hospital refused to help my son. What scum!! My son is so stressed out due to the pain he could have a stroke, heart attack, maybe die. All he wanted was some pain medicine because out patient place wouldn't help. It is time to get rid of this no-good for nothing hospital. As for me, I was in the hospital in March, broke my arm. I DID NOT want any controlled substance for the arm. Their damn doctor said I HAD to take some meds because I will need surgery (didn't). I told him I did not want to get hook on anything but no, I was afraid I couldn't leave unless I said 'yes.' I took the meds like I was told and within 48 hrs the controlled substance drug they gave almost killed me. It attacked my kidneys. I came close to dying plus I was unable to urinate for 48 hrs. I struggled the whole summer with serious problems and that so-called hospital feels I need to reimburse them. I had NO PLANS at all going back to that place but I ended up being back in there for 2 days just on account of a doctor telling me I had to take this medication. McLaren needs to be GONE!!!. Went to the ER for headache, neck pain and tingling and numbness running up my spine. The neck pain and tingling, numbness and headache were new onset.I have a significant history of permanent muscle and nerve damage from radiation. I also have a colostomy. I reported all these concerns to Dr. Evan Berg along with a concern of decreased output from my ostomy. This doctor never assessed my abdomen, bowel sounds, spine, nothing! He sat in a chair listening to all my concerns including new onset of brain fog. I inquired if maybe my lactic acid level was high due to my muscles being in a constant state of inflammation. His reply, "What is your goal here, it's not like you're going to have surgery today.""Everyone gets brain fog."He did ask if my ostomy output stopped, I answered again with what I had told him earlier, I'm having a small amount but it has decreased greatly. What kind of question is that to a concerned patient with a multitude of medical problems with new concerns. There was literally no assessment, not even listening to my heart or lungs. No neurological exam, no listening for bowel sounds, and no bloodwork was done. He did offer Toradol for pain of which I declined and said he would do a CT of head and neck. His bedside manner was lacking greatly to say the least!!!! Not every patient is seeking drugs if that's what he thought! Dr. Evan Berg you desperately need to do better. Your manner and non-chalant attitude is horrible! We must never forget as health care providers the common decency of compassion. You lack in this area greatly. read more

Would leave zero as a rating if I could. You'd have better care and luck going to a local vet. I spent over 6 hours in a waiting room. The ekg and labs were all been done from the triage area. The only person I saw medically was the person who did my blood draw and the xray tech. Not like my heart rate was fluctating between 120 and 130 for over half an hour before I was able to get here or anything. I had to call from the waiting room and ask to speak to a patient advocate or nursing supervisor at which point I was told there wasn't one in the building. I called back and reception told me the same thing until I reminded them that was illegal. I was then hung up on by that same operator. read more

This is the closest emergency room to me and i am very glad it is. This was my second time having to go there. I had kidney stones and it had gotten to the point were the pain was just too much. I was checked in and immediately screened by a nurse. Then taken to a room and worked on for iv's, vitals etc. They then quickly got me through imaging, confirming it was kidney stones. I was treated for pain, given scripts and advice and released. The entire process only taking about 3 hours. The staff was great, especially my nurse Randy. Thank you guys so much. read more

I had surgery here and I have to say that I have many regrets. The hospital gave me an odd feeling and I wish I would have cancelled my surgery and went somewhere else when I was in waiting. My surgery ran 4 hours behind due to staffing issues and I didn't think the cleanliness level was there. Something told me to not, but I needed the surgery. Well I ended up with MRSA and made sure I was treated at another hospital. I would never go back here, I would not have surgery here and I wouldn't trust them with anything more then X-Rays. read more

Despite some of the amazing nurses and CNAs at McLaren Lapeer, we were highly frustrated and disappointed in the care our mother received during two visits in a span of two months. Both times she was admitted and it was clear that "profits over patients" is how this facility chooses to operate. Before and after a major surgery, the surgeon never communicated with us. We had to request that the surgeon call us with a report about how the surgery went. We encountered several nurses who need some training in "bedside manner". Their tone of voice, rude remarks, and lack of compassion will never help patients feel calm and comfortable. read more

SHAME on the Emergency Check In nurses in the Check in center. ABSOLUTE lack of care, lack of empathy, lack of professionalism. We brought our 78 year old friend in with stroke symptoms (pale white, clammy, vomiting, blacking out, left side of his face drooping and he could hardly talk) he also had stomach pain. I ran in and asked for "help please I think he's having a stroke. " I was told by one of the nurses (Ashley) to take a number and have a seat, there are people in front of you (this is SUPPOSED TO BE AN EMERGENCY WHERE THINGS ARE HANDLED AS AN EMERGENCY. I kept asking them to PLEASE check him and his stats...they refused, told us to take him to another hospital and closed the office door in our face....DISGUSTED...We called 911, had an ambulance take him to McLaren Flint (THE CARE THERE IS AMAZING) where they said he WAS having a stroke and minutes matter...if he had sat their like ordered, it would have been so much worse...he also has a bowel obstruction. WE WILL BE FILING CLAIMS AND REPORTS AGAINST THIS HOSPITAL AND THE STAFF THAT TREATED US SO RUDELY. I HAVE WITNESSES AND PEOPLE WHO WERE DISGUSTED WHEN THEY SAY WHAT HAD HAPPENED. I went to the hospital on 3/8/18 with heart attack symptoms. Chest pain that went to my back, shortness of breath, I could not talk because I couldnt get air, hyperventilating, dizziness, nausea, numbness in face. When I got there they took me right back. The comments between staff were "their not going to be happy about this." I was assuming not happy for taking me back without registering. My son(20 yrs old) was sitting outside the room while I was getting an xray. He was told to hurry and get back in my room before he got in trouble. I had blood work, CTA, and xray. They gave me medication for nausea and panic attack. I was told it was not my heart. I was having a panic attack and the CTA showed emphysema.The only reason nurse Chuck told me about the emphysema was because I mad him go over the blood results with me and he wheeled the screen in front of me. He told me not to think to much of it because CTA scans are often over read. That is quite an expensive test to be over reading. Its was something he felt he didnt need to discuss. As I was waiting to be discharged all the staff were called to the desk over the pa system to be told where certain things were supposed to be, because certain so and so's were doing things wrong. The whole time I was there it was notable discord between staff. Sick people should not have to deal with discord among staff. It affects their care. Brad Blaker was the physician who never really talked to me at all. I was given 3 scripts upon discharge With No explanation. I looked up the meds when I got home. I was given dicyclomine for irritable bowel syndrome. There was no mention of irritable bowels. I dont have irritable bowels. My complaints were chest pain and trouble breathing. Next med Famotidine for ulsers and acid reflux. There was no complaint of uslers or acid reflux. I do not have issues with either. Does Dr.Blaker have me mixed up with another patient?? Third script was for ondansetron for nausea and vomitting. I did say I was nauseous but felt better after they administered the med in the room. Now it is Saturday and I am at work with all the same symptoms. Chest pain, cant breathe, hyperventilating numb face, etc. Nothing to do with my bowels, non existent ulcers, or nausea. Evidently I am in another full blown panic attack. Which I have never had prior to my emergency room visit. I have no clue what they are from or why it is happening. They never mentioned again after they administered the med that actually helped me. I called the ER to see what med they gave me that actually helped me start to breathe normal, and made my chest stop hurting. They told me to come back. I have a $250 copay. I can not come back. I need the meds that actually helped me. Not these meds that Brad prescribed so he can get a kick back on from pharm. I already had the testing. I called to speak to a manager. I was connected to a nurse supervisor that told me to come back she cant do anything without me being seen. I was already seen and was given the wrong scripts. I asked if I could come back on a no charge visit she said she has nothing to do with billing. I told her I was given the wrong scripts she said it wasnt her who gave me the scripts. I asked to speak to Brad or to look up what they gave me. Brad wasnt in. So we cant even talk about the meds because brads not in and she didnt give me the meds nor will she look them up. When I told her the meds I was prescribed the nurse supervisor told me the dicyclomine was an antibiotic. Do we just not know our meds in Mclaren ER??? Even if it was an antibiotic what would I need that for? Why would I be given any of these scripts in the first place, and why wouldnt a nurse have a clue of what they are? I was just seen. What other tests can you possibly do? I was given the wrong scripts. I need the script that works. Now I have missed a day of work and can not see my doctor until Monday. Thank God nothing was seriously wrong with me, or is there and they are just clueless? They are to wrapped in staff drama. I am afraid of the care and drugs I would have been given, or not given for that matter if something was serious. It was a terrible experience with unacceptable care. Watch your scripts closely. read more
