I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt and unfortunately he took the check and left the job unfinished atrocious. We inquired about a more extensive project for our house, replacing some worn out timbers, putting in a new walkway and retaining wall as well as some new plantings. We were assured this was all possible and a quote would be forthcoming. After a few weeks with no estimate I contacted Kiersten who said they were just waiting for a few more estimates on their end to give us our quote, it should only be a few more days. We waited a couple more weeks, still nothing, another delay but just a few more days. At that point we figured we would never get a response, we didn't or any sort of follow up. However, they showed up promptly for fall cleanup and did a good job. The next year the mowing rate went up again, now double what it had been 2 years prior. We grudgingly agreed. We also scheduled another fall cleanup. By December when they hadn't come we were given an excuse about not having enough good weather but an assurance that when spring came they would do the cleanup. Spring arrived, no CCT&L. Called with a reminder in April, got an excuse that they were catching up on work from the fall but said they should be to us in a couple of weeks. At the beginning of May I called again and was told they would be to us by the first week in June. When the second week of June came and went we decided to do cleanup ourselves. CCT&L never showed for a cleanup we had scheduled 8 months earlier. Ridiculous. More ridiculous, they didn't mow our lawn that year, even when we had agreed to their much higher rate. To be clear, they have our CC info on file and always billed us after they had performed a service, so their failure to come to our home was not due to any payment issue on our end. They used to do a good job, but I have no idea how they stay in business any longer. They still send me emails urging me to sign up for services in a timely manner. That must be a joke.

Since 2022 I have used Muto on several different projects at two different homes (mine and my…read moremothers). I hired them knowing I would be overpaying but it was worth it to me to be able to expect professionalism. It is notoriously difficult to hire good contractors on the Outer Cape and with my own work going on I wanted to be able to rely on them in my absence. In my full time job on the west coast I project manage construction sites and have supervised more than 200 home renovations. I am taking my General Contractor-B test later this year. I am telling you these things so that you understand that I am not just some whiny homeowner; I work with contractors and handymen on a daily basis and I am well known and highly respected in my field. The treatment I have received from the unprofessional staff at Muto turned me into a raving lunatic sending all capital, bolded, highlighted emails as I tried to do something, ANYTHING, to get them to respond to me and fix the problem. Their communication is absolutely terrible on all aspects of their work. They did a roof for me in Wellfleet several years ago and failed to complete one portion; it took many, many emails and calls from me to finally get the unfinished portion that they just left with tar paper completed 9 months later. Then they did a partial roof at my mother's house in Truro, and when I called them to complete the second section of roof, they quoted me on a total roof replacement. It is reasonable to say that Dillon there quoting perhaps did not know they had just been hired about 18 months earlier, but what is NOT reasonable is that he couldn't look at the roof (since he was physically there) and be able to see half of it was brand new. I should have stopped hiring them at that point, but again I was hoping that a large general contractor firm would ultimately perform better than hiring small and sometimes unreliable individual contractors. I was wrong. Last summer I hired them to replace an exterior window, an exterior door, and build an outdoor shower. Their first installation of the exterior shower did not follow the plan at all and dangerously included a bathroom casement window (crank open) INSIDE the outdoor shower where naked people could hit their head, not to mention be viewed by anyone inside the bathroom. I was sorry to make them re-do it but I had to make them re-do the outdoor shower since the installation not only had no privacy, but was also dangerous. They were not happy about it but they did it. Again, that was not the original plan and their site supervisor should have been on top of it before the mistake ever happened. The final straw was this summer because the door they installed just last summer has a bent piston and is already corroding. I reached out to them more than a DOZEN times via email and telephone and was finally told to send a photo of the serial number on the door. I did that, and it has been months without a reply despite my repeated inquiries. They finally told me today that the very expensive Anderson door they THEY CHOSE is not suited for a coastal environment and I will just need to keep replacing it periodically. SO WHY DID THEY INSTALL IT IN A COASTAL ENVIRONMENT???? And why did they take months and months to respond? This is a general contractor firm. Employees should respond to emails within 1 business day, 2 at the most, even if all they say is that your message has been received and they will respond as soon as possible They don't even do that; they just ghost you like a teenager if something is wrong. I can't say enough bad things about Muto and I wish I had not given them over $30,000 of my money the past few years.
