The coaches are incredibly invested and treat the kids as if they were their own. Our son not only developed better control of the ball, but also a sense of confidence and discipline on and off the field. And, I could see why because their practices are really well organized and rigorous. At the same time, the kids were having a lot of fun. You could tell the kids were proud to be there. But, the primary reason I picked this club was the quality of the kids. I could tell the kids were brought up well by how well-mannered they were. So, I'm thinking they are going to have a really good influence on my child. For example, during the initial tryouts, his teammates actually greeted my son and made him feel welcome. And, later, when I kicked back an errant ball, the child thanked me which I didn't expect. The entire experience impressed me. This is in stark contrast to some other clubs. For example, at The Football Academy in Floram Park, the coach made the kids do pushups every time the ball went out of bounds. The kids ended up doing pushups the entire practice. This made no sense to me. First, on artificial turf, it's really hard to control the ball for kids at their age. Second, pushups doesn't help them get better at soccer.

I used to pass Alumni Field on my way to and from the University and I had no clue how nice it was until I actually popped inside one day to watch my friend play soccer. Alumni Field is actually better than most city and college fields in and out of the greater NY/ NJ area. Alumni Field contains an all turf soccer and softball field. The new turf was added in 2009 and is kept in tip-top shape! New scoreboards were added few years back when the University renovated the field and a press box was recently added in Summer 2012. If you need the lights on for night games; all you have to do is make arrangements with Athletics Facilities and they will be more than happy to help you out! The field is mainly used by the Rutgers-Newark Athletics & Rec Dept., local k-12 teams, city leagues and intramurals within the community rent-out Alumni Field as well. I'm not sure what the rental price is, however based on what I hear; I don't think it's going to cost ya an arm and a leg!

The coaches are dedicated, and there is such a positive, high-energy atmosphere every time we walk through the doors. One of the nicer parts about this rink is the Living Room Café upstairs. It is a total game-changer for hockey parents! It's fully heated with a perfect bird's-eye view of the ice, so you can stay warm while watching the game. The food is actually really good--much better than your typical rink snacks--and it's the perfect spot to grab a coffee and catch up with other parents. The location is also incredibly convenient. It's tucked right behind the Best Buy and Starbucks off Route 22, which makes it easy to grab a quick coffee on the way in or run a few errands during practice. If you're looking for a great hockey community and a parent-friendly facility in Union County, this is definitely the place to be!
