They closed their brewery in north Greenwich and did not update website. Took a one hour trip for nothing.

I got brought a brewery tour as a gift, and had a great time here. I have done a lot of brewery tours in America but this was my first in the U.K. We did a weekday tour starting 7pm. The place is in a bit of a random spot, I wasn't too keen on our walk there but we made it. We ordered a pint as we were early, their speciality Cake boy, a hazelnut beer I wasn't too keen on it and wished I haven't ordered a whole pint. Plus it was expensive £13 for two pints! It should be cheaper directly from the brewery. Also i definitely wouldn't have ordered a whole pint if I had known I was going to have to chug the thing as we weren't allowed to take drinks on the tour with us! This is very different from US brewery tours and they usually welcome drinking on the tours. However I understand why, as the tour starts out in their private tap room, where you drink and taste all their different beers on tap. I think we tried around 5-6 beers, we even got to still taste their stout even though they had ran out of it on draft. They actually opened bottles of it, to pour for us -- I was impressed and their stout was nice, it's different from others stouts as I'm not a stout drinker. The pours were a third of a pint each too. The tour in whole was 2 hours but didn't actually last that long. The tasting lasted around an hour -- this is something I haven't experienced at US breweries, where the staff go into soo much detail about each beer and taste them with you. Usually a brewery tour is only 20-30 minutes touring the facility. This tour was more like bourbon tours I have been on. The actual tap room we were in was full of Michael Jackson's (the beer critic) glass collection -- cool or what? After the tasting we finally toured the facility, which lasted around 20 minutes or so. The tasting was better than the tour, I could have skipped the tour, their was nothing special. As traditional with British health and safety laws, we were required to wear safety goggles on the tour, even though it was the evening and nothing was happening. One thing that did disappoint me, was you weren't able to keep a tasting glass after the tour, you had to buy one from the gift shop. Also as I'm not up to date on British craft beer, I was surprised to learn that Meantime sold out to SAB Miller a few years ago and then was later sold to a Japanese company. However though we enjoyed the tour overall (I think it was all the beer -- lol). We stayed after the tour finished, had another pint and actually ended up chatting to our tour guide for the evening. Out of all the brewery tours I've been to, Meantime was probably my least favorite. They do have some good beer though. For £20, your ticket (book online in advance) includes a 2-hour tour and tasting. This was WAY too long. My three friends and I arrived a tad late for our 7:30 tour, but it seemed like everyone had already been there for a while. The "tour" had already started. I use this term loosely because Meantime does things a bit backwards here. They do the tasting room first. So for about an hour an 40 minutes, you get to listen to a drunk tour guide drone on about the history of beer - not even the history of Meantime beer, just beer in general. However, he still found time to make some ignorant little digs at Americans - like, 'Yanks love shit beer' or 'Americans are not cultured'. I think there were only 2 other Americans in the room (aside from us), out of a room about 40 and they definitely looked as uncomfortable as I felt. The beer helped though. They give a sample of each of their draft beers. These tasted only okay. They all tasted pretty similar. Most of them were pale ales. After the tasting comes the 15-20 minute tour of their facilities, which was pretty standard. The good beer comes in at the shop. It's the special brews that are NOT on tap - their bottled brews. I brought home a hibiscus one and a coffee porter one, and I loved both. The hibiscus beer was super refreshing - perfect for the summer. I would recommend skipping the tour, taking that money, and buying yourself a few of the bottles instead. read more

Tried the brewery tour, for £17.50. The actual factory tour part was quite quick, we more concentrated on actually consuming and enjoying their products rather than looking at equipment. We did that, too though. Tasting took place in a nice room containing vast number of beer bottles around the world originally collected by Michael Jackson (no that THAT one). Nice tour guide poured us tasters while chatting about their particular features, I think we had five different beers (and some extra unofficial stuff...). All in all it took us two hours to went through it. It was perhaps not the most educational tour as such but it certainly was the most fun brewery tour I've ever encountered. Great experience! They got a rather cool bar, would say worth the trip without tour. Also a small but quite well stocked shop. Would I return? Absolutely! I went there for 7pm tour and did not leave the premises before 11.15pm so I guess it's safe to say I enjoyed it... read more

Fine craft brewery. I had a London IPA which was ok-ish but I think I may have been over-charged as GBP 3.70 for half-pint is quite a lot. The place is quite nice and it is really cool that they have a SNES. However, for getting the ambient of a micro/small craft-brewery it is not the ideal spot. read more

We took the Meantime brewery tour on 8/31/13 & had the best time. For £15, you got tastings of their lager, pale ale, stout, fest bier & Yakima red. What made the tour especially amusing was our tour guide, Alex. He charmed, flirted, and quipped. He remembered people's names & where they were from. He was also very knowledgeable about brewery operations. You can tell that he absolutely loves this job. We had a good laugh & really enjoyed ourselves. read more

Hidden Gem alert! We very much enjoyed our brewery tour on an autumnal Sunday afternoon. Our guide/drinking buddy/beer guru Al was very passionate and enthralled our group from the beginning. Even the non-beer loving girls enjoyed learning about the process of making their beer, the history of Meantime and what sets them apart from other breweries. We easily drank our way through £15 of beer (the cost of the tour) and were there for over 3 hours. We all a little merry when we left! It's kind of in the middle of nowhere, in a random industrial estate, but if you take the scenic route you can enjoy a walk along the river to get there. They've upgraded their facilities recently and now have a dedicated Brewery Tour room with beer taps, and it overlooks the brewery floor. I've been recommending this to everyone since going, and could well end up going back again. read more

Superb London homemade craft beer. Didn't get to do the tour, but the bar was good, just off Blackwall tunnel towards Greenwich, there is parking funny enough. Tried a dew selection of craft beer, and it was quite nice, they are premium beer so expect to pay premium prices. The venue itself was bright and spacious with outdoor seating. At the back of the bar, they have these huge chrome tanks behind a second bar. Reminds me a cool lab feel. Enjoyed the experience here, would come again. read more

Having tasted various Meantime beers in different pubs around London, I thought the tour of the brewery would be a fun activity with a group of friends. I have been on several brewery tours before and they usually follow the same rough format of a tour of the brewery with an explanation of the brewing process followed by some sampling of the goods. The Meantime tour was completely different. It starts with an in depth tasting of the various beers produced along with a history of the brewery itself. You get to taste a good selection of the beers and learn about the different ingredients and brewing techniques that make them the way they are. After a fairly lengthy tasting session, you go on a relatively quick tour of the brewing facilities. At the end of the tour, you can stop by the bar at the brewery if you want. I highly recommend the tour. The tour guides were informative and extremely entertaining. Also, if you are a fan of Meantime, you get to try many of their different offerings. read more

My girlfriend and I loved the personal experience and the tour guide was very knowledgeable on beer history! Well, it looks like someone named Craig has already said basically everything I was going to say. Plus, he seems to know of a scenic route for getting to Meantime. I do not know that route. The route I took was from the Greenwich tube stop, which lead me down a highway for a mile and involved having to cross the highway. It was a nice day and part of the adventure, but a different route might be preferable. Anyway, just to reiterate everything he said, the 15 pound entrance fee may seem steep, but considering that you will be drinking delicious Meantime brews for a good 3 hours while you are regaled with info about brewing and the brewery, it's actually quite a bargain, especially since it seems these beers are not available in too many places. And if you, like me, simply can't stand those luke warm, flat cask ales, you will agree that this is a damn shame. And now I must run and hide from the British beer police, who are no doubt going to force me to drink those flat beers until I admit (against my will) that I do love them. But before I go, I would just like to give a shout-out to our tour guide Alex, who gave a hilarious, informative, and fun tour. Tip that off with staff that is passionate, friendly and also into beer. What is better than enjoying a tasty brew? Talking about it while you are enjoying that tasty brew. The new renovated brewery is overdue for a company that has made and continues to reach their hoppy arms out and embrace the craft of beer making. I'm convinced they will sway even the magners-ice-in-class drinkers to convert. I have also enjoyed the food, which is perfect for the beer. "We're starting on the porter tonight" said the brewer, as he placed three brimming pitchers of beer on the table. And thus started the Meantime Brewery Tour. I have been to two brewery tours in my life. The second one was at the Tiger Brewery in Singapore where my college was foolish enough to pay for 16 postgrads to enjoy an open bar for three hours. The Meantime tour was slightly different, but enjoyable for more (and some similar reasons). I've heard about some of the rather more industrial brewery tours which involve a rushed half hour tour and a half pint of beer at the end. Meantime follows a slightly different format with a rather free-flowing and varied supply of beer whilst taking a rather more relaxed approach to the tour - the downside of this is that I ended up forgetting the name of a particular process in beer manufacture, costing our team a point in the pub quiz. The brewery offers individual group tours for groups larger than 10 (smaller groups are also welcome) and is excellent value at £15 a head - throughout the evening, we sampled Porter, IPA, Wheat Beer, Raspberry Wheat Beer, and Chocolate Porter, amounting to around 5-6 pints (also note that Meantime beer is typically in the 6-8 %abv range). The only thing that it could do with would be some snacks (although the toasted barley they bring out is really moorish). Our tour guide - whose name escapes me - was very entertaining and engaging and didn't hesitate in refreshing our beverages (straight from the vat) and sneakily managed to convince us (after about 4 pints) that there's nothing wrong with aluminium casks - hence Meantime aren't associated with CAMRA. They do on-the-spot discounts for purchases too - I bought a case of 12 bottles of yummy chocolate porter (trust me - it's fantastic) for £15 (usually £20). It may be in the back-end of Greenwich, but it's definitely something I'd love to do again. NOTE: the brewery is currently being refurbished at won't be open for tours until May 2012. However, go try their beer at Waitrose in the Meantime (SEE WHAT I DID THERE?). read more

So I'd never been here until the other day. I arranged to meet a couple of friends and one said "let's go to the Meantime brewery" and we all thought it was a good idea. Turns out, there's 2 Meantime breweries in Greenwich; the new one (this one) and the old one at the Royal Naval College in the middle of Greenwich. I met one friend here who was equally as confused as me, had a very nice pint of Fools Gold (beautifully amber beer, very fruity which some can taste pineapple on). I got a message from my other friend saying "where the f**k are you?" I'd obviously gone to the wrong one!! So we Ubered our way over to the old brewery. Regardless of my geographical inadequacy, the new Meantime brewery is totally worth a visit. Not only can you sample EVERY beer on tap before you commit to buy a whole pint/half/third but you can also have a tour of the brewery and buy merch/more beer at the shop! Oh and the staff are totally bantz. Awesome. read more

While on business in London took a stroll through North Greenwich. It had been nearly 6 years since I have been here last. Pleasantly surprised to see the Meantime Brewing Company had opened a restaurant, bar, and beer garden. Sat myself down at the beer garden and had a beer sampler. Afterward, tried ordering food but apparently the kitchen had already closed? It wasnt that late as it was still light outside but I didnt feel like going anywhere else as the beer was quite good. Moved over to the bar area and ended up having many more pints, sampling beer not yet available to the general public, and an overall good time talking with the bartenders about beer from the United States. Left quite happy and tipsy for the DLR to get to my apartment and it all cost less than £20. Not too bad! read more

This is a top craft beers spot in London because they have something for everyone and they do it well! They carry a wide range of your basic type of beers: pils, lager, stout, porter, pale ale, wheat and a red ale. It's not common to find some of these types of beers in England due to the locals strong ties with traditions, so tasting something other than a bitter ale is a nice break, even if it is a lager. They also have a few experimental beers such as a raspberry wheat, chocolate porter, coffee porter, IPA (I have only seen these in bottles though) and some kind of small batch special. I particularly liked the chocolate porter, but I am a dark beer fan as well as a chocolate fan and it was full of flavor. However, I can see how this would be too strong tasting for some people. The Pale ale is very good too. The space is huge, clean and has plenty of seating. They also carry a small menu with some great nibbles and larger plates. I had lunch here and ordered the pulled pork (highly recommend). If I had to include some constructive criticism, I would like them to improve on the coffee porter and release some more experimental flavors. read more

Ugh, this place is fab! We are huge meantime brew fans and very much enjoy their entire range of beers. I was very happy to discover that the food is equally delicious. We had dinner here on Friday night and were both super happy with the quality of the food. I'd recommend a visit to anyone who like good beer, good food, and a cool piece of history. read more
