There was a pleasant room upstairs (very pleasant on a Summer evening) with a nice aspect.You could hire this room for private parties and various groups used this.It has the advantage of a private car park but is in a reasonably accessible place too.I hope it is still as good and well supported.

It is like the world of the undead has risen. The origins of WGW lie in an ad hoc meeting of around forty pen-pals who had met through NME and which was arranged in 1994.It states that Whitby was chosen for its Dracula connections, although probably more so because this had already fostered a sense of acceptance on the part of locals and businesses rather than any inherent romanticism regarding the location. The festival was held yearly until 1997, when it became twice-yearly, now held in April and October. It has since grown into one of the most popular gothic events in the world, attracting attendees from across the UK and around the world. Most of the events are held at the town's 1,000 capacity Whitby Spa Pavilion (known just as 'The spa', this is also where the 'Goth Market' is held), however, other venues such as The Metropole Hotel are used for overspill and The Resolution Pub for unofficial events. Although referred to as a weekend it includes events during the day on Friday and Saturday as well as fringe events on the Thursday, Sunday and Monday. It sells out fast so tickets need to be bought online well in advance.

The hall itself is most impressive with wonderfully ornate furnishings, sculptures and paintings. The guide was very knowledgeable telling us all about the hall's history and the present owners family. There was a lift for the use of wheelchairs so the whole house was accessible, a very good day out at a wonderful old English home.

This place is a fascinating walk through a period of history…read more Eden Camp is a real prisoner of war camp built in 1942. You walk through a series of huts and scenes are set with sound and smells depicting WWII. The hand waving, from under a pile of rubble, in the blitz is pretty memorable. Two idemitical rooms show how prisoners of war would escape. Room one shows the room and you try to spot how and where. Room 2 shows the passages open etc. A spot the difference if you like. It is perfectly accessible for the disabled and very child friendly they have a two part Assault Course. One for the Tiny Tot Commandos and through the escape tunnel for the potential SAS members. A lovely gift shop and for food try the Prisoners' Canteen, Officers' Mess Tearooms or have a drink in the Garrison Cinema Bar. Food is called Dambusters stew and dumplings, Churchill Pie, Veggie Did for Victory, Home Guard etc All under a fiver. You need time to visit this place. At least 3 hours I would say. Incredibly interesting.

Recently refurbished (and opened on time and under budget, amazingly) the Rotunda offers a couple of florrs worth of displays. On the ground floor, theres a large 3-D section of coast which makes up part of the 'Dinosaur Coast' and shows wildlife and fossil samples. The first floor focuses on geology, and offers plenty to look at and learn about on this topic and features the skeleton of Gristhorpe Man, which is probably one of the prize exhibits and well worth a looksee. Its not for everyone, admittedly, and probably certainly not for younger children as its the kind of subject matter adults will appreciate more, but admission prices are reasonable - under 18s get in free - and thers enough to see to be able to pass an hour or more.
