It's a pub, but it's also a museum of sorts for you guessed it, The Stone Roses (LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE), Oasis, Joy Division, and the like. If I could win the lottery, which I have never played, I would move to York and be within walking distance of The Stone Roses Bar. The staff are superb. Exceptional humans. The bar is nothing short of perfection. The drinks are well-made, tasty, and affordable. I have nothing but good things to say about this place. Always. Looking forward to my next visit.

The place isn't sparkling clean but that only adds to the homely feel of the place, with band stickers and alcohol logos everywhere. It's not obvious to newcomers that there is also a bar downstairs, where the stage is for local acts and the toilets. Avoid the toilets if you can, as you can smell them from 10m+ away (my friend Loz was so disgusted by the smell that he got a can of air freshener from the bar, and he was stood in the crowd at the opposite side of the room!) Back upstairs, there is a dj booth and pool table. Vintage is the only place (probably) where you'll find Pink Floyd graffiti in the womens' toilet! A really nice place to hang out when I (rarely) have a spare night in Doncaster.

Black paintwork and nicotine walls. Black Boy dates back to the 1330s, though the first reference to licenced premises on the site was in 1729. Most now is 17th and 18th century. Ye Olde Black Boy is the definitive genuine traditional Olde English pub and of course it has a ghost. it is a little slave boy (hence the name) who was a servant there before the abolishion. What I love about this hotel is that no two rooms are the same. Each one has its own distinctive charm & character. For this particular visit, I was lucky enough to get Room 9 down at the end of the property that overlooks one of the main traffic arteries into the heart of Malton. That said, this hotel is a series of interconnected buildings that are at least a few centuries old! No elevator (lift) here; you're gonna have to navigate some stairs. But it's all part of the beauty of this place. The restaurant here showcases the fact that Malton is The Foodie Capital of Yorkshire. All the ingredients are locally-sourced and super-fresh. Definitely try the English Breakfast! No wonder Charles Dickens would come to Malton to escape London! And it's highly possible he stayed here, as Chancery Lane is literally across the street and features the office used as the model for Ebeneezer Scrooge. Cool history! Also, back in the day, the Onassis family would rent out the entire hotel on their visits to acquire Thoroughbreds, so there's a very good chance Jackie stayed here, too!
