There's plenty going on here over the weekends, from Drag racing, Drifting Events to Race what u bring events. This particular day, it was Drift car racing. It costs £5 per adult and kids are free of charge! Not bad if u bring a picnic for a full days entertainment! There's an on site club house that sells snacks and drinks, but it is quite expensive for cans of Fosters (2.50) and Bulmers (3.50), so I suggest you take your own! On certain summer weekends they run free rides to either Victoria Station or MOSI on one of the actual vintage buses - check the website for details. The museum houses a small cafeteria which does basic food: pies, tea & coffee, cakes, crisps. Free refills are available on hot drinks. Well worth the £4 entry charge, especially considering they have a few ongoing restoration projects.

Okay, it's not quite as vast as its southern counterpart and there are no vintage tube carriages on display but there is a stunning Victorian horse-drawn bus, classic 40s and 50s coaches, 60s stagecoach double deckers with their original livery and a prototype Metrolink tram. The bus garage also features the original transport offices with their original decor and furniture, old ticket machines, uniforms and photographs. For £4 entry, it's a fun and not too expensive way to travel back in time (and for the kids it's free).

The vibe in here is modern and relaxed, it's a clean cut space which would be good to sit and do some research if architecture is your game. Or just to have a mooch round the wooden floored rooms echoing round browsing the current exhibitions.

I was a member of the Bolton Grosvenor Casino some years before and managed to find my old membership card, however it had been so long since i had used it that my membership had lapsed... re registering is simple enough, fill ot a form and show photo ID and you are allowed in. The poker room is to the back of the casino playing area, there are poker comps going on every night of the week here, all starting at 8pm. Be warned though, it can go on till the wee small hours, so if you have work the next day it may be wise to choose carefully! All buy in prices vary, so check before hand to confirm! The main playing area is nicely set out, with Roulette tables, Blackjack and cash poker. The slots and electronic Roulette machines are on the upper level. There are waiters walking around to serve drinks if you so wish and all soft drinks are free while you are on the playing area, just help yourself. The drinks at the bar are very well priced, 5.95 for a double Gin and Tonic and same for a double Kraken and Cola! I suppose the more drunk you are, the more likely to lose your hard earned cash you are though... On a Saturday there is also some form of musical act on the stage that's in the casino. This time it happened to be Latina Diva, she was very good! Singing all the summer latino tunes and getting the audience involved as much as possible, up to the point that i was dragged up to dance with her on stage...damn those double Krakens! There is also a restaurant on site, the prices here looked very reasonable also, with a good selection to choose from! The selection of table games and slots isn't massive but they do have enough to cover all of your gambling needs... The refurbishment has yet to reach the car park which is still uneven but it's big and close to the main building. We held a family christening there recently and the service was great. There is lots to see here, the award winning museum, excavated medieval ruins, the St Christopher statue, the Walled Garden and the extensive woodland and sculpture trail. It's 40 acres so take comfortable shoes otherwise you might have tender feet by the end of the day. Norton Priory has loads to do for children and it is possible to arrange school visits. Although all of Norton Priory is fab, my favourite part is the 2.5 acre walled garden. A stroll around that and I am happy as ever!

It might be a little naive of me but my personal experience of having a friend with a racing greyhound is that they given as much love as your average beagle and the simple fact is they are born, and love, to run. If you're looking for a fun, different and cheap (depending on how much you bet) night out, then think about giving Belle Vue Greyhound Stadium a chance. The floodlight stadium is surrounded by a restaurant, trackside bars and of course the grandstands where you can sit inside or out. The suites are designed for groups and there are special offers for groups including free meals. I didn't really understand how to bet at first, but as soon as you get the hang of it, it's quite exhilarating to watch your favoured pooch curry to the finish line. I didn't win anything, but that hasn't put me off at all. The entry is free on a Thursday, £3 on Fri and £5 on Saturday but even if you don't want to bet at all, it's an entertaining night out with your friends.

It's cheap, it's fun and it's a completely different thing to do! It's good fun if you're with a group because that way it's not all about gambling, you can watch other people lose money whilst you take a bit of a back seat! Really good for a works night out actually. Cheap drinks and cheap food too, you can either stand by the track outside and watch or sit inside in one of the booths and watch through the windows. It can be a cheap night but it can be an expensive one too, know your limits people. Check out the website before you go because they usually have some good offers on there.
