Not only is this a gorgeous space, being one of the older booze houses in town, but it's a friendly one to boot. Exquisite booths, with detailed glass windows, resplendent fireplaces, cosy rooms, and plushly carpeted floors make up just some of the wonderful features in this place. The lamp shades are something else, and I've often coveted one for myself. As for the drinks, as is often becoming the case, there's not much that I can add to the other reviews (and indeed my prior reviews) -essentially, if you're a fan of good beer you're in good hands. Plenty of rotating cask offerings sit alongside a solid lager selection, with all the usual suspects in spirits and suchlike being available to the non-hop-lot. The staff are always awesome, offering up a warm welcome and friendly smile, which always adds to the experience. No one likes a cold fish. I've not eaten here in such a long time so I couldn't comment on the edibles, but it remains an excellent spot in the centre for friendly and creative folk to grab a pint, often amongst the varied friendly locals. And long will it be a place that I shall patronise.

I have visited a couple of times in order to partake in poetry events but there are also musical performances and other great events. This isn't a massive place (being as it is, a shed) so it is very cosy and when I visited I felt immediately at home and once I'd started tasting the great range of (reasonably priced) CAMRA ales and bottled beers I moved from home to heaven (albeit rather unsteadily). The bar is open to members and their guests but also to people attending events here. Take a look at the website and get yourself over there, you will not be sorry.

A relatively new venture in the way of artistic spaces and venues, but it is pretty damn good. It's constantly gaining momentum, and currently there are projects going a ahead for budding film makers, artists, musicians and creative types. Seven relies on funding and sponsorship, which is good news for the local business who wish to hire out rooms for conferences and business meetings, as all money generated from the room hires goes back in to funding more arts projects. Seven also has it's own bar, Bar Seven, which is a cool place to spend before a show, or just to go in and have a drink with some friends, as it's open from mid morning til midnight. Oh yes, the events, there are many to choose from, acoustic nights, plays, comedy nights, art exhibitions, workshops and being super festive there's a Valentine's night this Sunday, with a Buenos Aires, film set, dinner and dance spectacle vibe, with tickets at £20 a head. Housing about 100 in capacity, Seven offers an intimate setting which can be a welcome change from bigger venues, especially for plays and acoustic performances. And there's the added satisfaction that your money is going back into the production of more fabulous art events.

The Host and Compere 'Silky' aways makes it feel like the show is just for you, Picks the best of touring comedy, and new acts,,, occasionally runs over, so if you're on the bus,, make sure you have the taxi fare home. If you go there you know you'll get quality comedy, not for the faint hearted. And of course 7 Arts is a cracking venue with good beer. so what's not to like.

So it makes sense that the student nightlife measures up and the Leeds Met Student Union does pretty well in that department. What you'll get is a diverse range of DJ nights and live music. In the coming months you'll get the likes of Passion Pit. A lively band of electronica music loaded with samples, glitches and effects. What you won't probably get is the likes of U2 or global superstars but you've got the O2 Arena for the likes of that. You'll also get cheap beer and plenty of it. We need to keep the sound of underground music spreading and thankfully Leeds Met help do this. Get yourself a gig guide and get down to rock it out or if you're feeling brave enough even stage dive. Probably not wise though!

No, we enthusiastically joined a queue. Only to find that, two hours later, we'd missed Bombay Bicycle Club. Because they were on in the bar. Not the venue. SAY WHAT?! After all that though, that wasn't the venue's fault was it? Probably not. It's certainly the better of the two big university venues and is set-up so you are up close and personal with the performers; there's hardly a gap between the stage and massed people. Beer's relatively inexpensive. Shots aren't. Steer clear of shots. Unless you've just missed Bombay Bicycle CLub.

Certainly, it's not necessarily a cutting edge piece of architecture, but its structure is actually one of my favourites in Leeds. The huge steps out the front are a great spot to eat you sandwiches, and guaranteed much freer and more picturesque to pause at than the Parkinson steps, and with so many places near by to grab refreshment the location is certainly a handy one. Whilst I've only been around the inner workings a few times it's always been a fun browse. They have a few rotating/changing displays - one of which I remember featuring this 'crazy scientist' type character and all in all it offers a good deal of info-tainment for the kids, as it were. Their other staples, as mentioned in previous reviews, also offer a good afternoon's browsing and is certainly worthwhile whether you're a resident or a visitor. They're not adverse to other events being held in the space either, indeed an opening night to an Irish festival, celebrating the Irish cultural heritage in Leeds, was held in the main room which was fantastic too. If you've not been, you've overlooked another gem of the city!

I highly recommend attending the daily scheduled talks, they are engaging and informative, with a chance to ask questions and handle relevant items. During the weekday is less busy with general public, but can get busy and a bit loud with school visits, but we actually took advantage of this and listened to the teachers giving talks to the children! This is a free exhibition that does welcome donations. There is plenty of bathroom facilities, lifts as well as stairs for moving throughout the floors. Also, there Is a cafe on the ground floor. They do like you to book in advanced even though it's free, that way they have an idea of numbers.
