Came here tonight for the first time. Such a cool little theater. Could use some paint. The drapes look like they have 3 inches of dust on them. The sound is great. We saw the candlelight orchestra perform music from Bridgerton. Seems to be plenty of street party around the venue. Free on Sundays. The line was out the door and around the block but it went quick. Nice intimate setting. We saw the candlelight concert here and it had good acoustics and we also enjoyed the old charm of the building with all the details in the ceiling. Centrally located and plenty of restaurants in the area. Definitely worth seeing a show her. Nice gradual incline of seating so it easier to see over heads. read more

Fabulous show last night (Winter Wonderland). The sound from 6 wonderful voices and one keyboard under excellent direction was amazing! Loved the selection of Christmas songs. I love this quaint local theatre. Good seats, friendly staff and a rotating schedule of the "b" list shows with good performances. Grab a drink at their in-house bar, watch the show, then poke around Media. Regardless of your taste in live theatre, you can find a show that suits your taste and budget. So far the performances have all been very good (even great in some cases). A number of local restaurants offer 10% discounts if you dine with them before or after - just show your tickets. Make it a point to put this on your to-do list and support them - its great to have places like this without the prices and hassle associated with downtown Phila. read more

Yikes. I'd like to preface this review by first saying, I love theatre. I've seen so much theatre in my life- high school, community, national tour and even broadway. I saw The Media Theatre's production of Disney's Newsies... because... LIKE YA DO :-p I even brought my son Till to see the show because he had watched the filmed version on Netflicks. He was excited (As was I) to see it live. Hate that I have to write this, but as a mom with an opinion... I have a duty. First... the positives. A few of the lead performers were amazing (and form NYC). Jack Kelly, Katherine, Davie, the little boy (I m pretty sure they even had Cara Lindsay from Broadway), and a few others blew me a way. The boys flipping were also impressive. (I saw one of them play Billy Elliot here and he was amazing). The dancing was also great and the voices on these characters were wonderful. And Medda, what a card!!! I felt bad for these talented performers for having to endure the state of this production. Now for the sad part. The boy playing Crutchie was undeniably unprepared and "off balance".... My son pointed out that he was slurring his words and even sang his song 3 times more than he should have. Till knows the show very well and so upset that someone he looked up to would step onstage in this kind of state. For Till, this was especially personal (for reasons I won't explain). On top of that, props broke, the projector was clearly broken (the performers did a good job at covering this though, although it was sadly obvious), and some of the ADULT actors were fumbling on their lines (this was well into their performance, these kinks should have been ironed out by now, come on). The unprofessional and embarassing and disrespectful behavior that I and many other audience members whitnessed... I love the theatre. I look forward to attending the theatre... but now? I'll think twice. :-/ Good job to the leads from New York (except Cruchie- Completely unprofessional, completely childish.... sad :-/) and good job to the performers trying to keep the spirit of this great show alive. I love the Media Theater! I bring my nieces every Christmas season to see their plays. My nieces are ages 8-12 and this season we saw Elf. Just a warning that it is a tad inappropriate for kids at times. I was surprised to hear low-level cursing and sexual innuendos. I feel that as a family theater, there really is no need for that in their plays. The performance would have been just as enjoyable without it. read more

I went here to see West Side Story this weekend. There were three of us and one was in a wheelchair so we called ahead to get some particulars. Seats were available for Sunday's matinee as late as Saturday which was good. I was not able to book tickets online as their system does not work very well with Safari. They warn you of this on the website but you can call the box office and book over the phone. I didn't like the fact that they didn't tell you how much the seats cost depending upon where you sit or not. They did tell me that the space for the wheelchair would go was not the same price as regular seats. All tolled, it cost $134. Parking is available on the street and there's a small municipal lot next-door where are you don't have to feed the meter on the weekends. Because I had to pick up my tickets at the box office, we got there a little bit early. However we weren't allowed in to the theater to sit down until 15 minutes before curtain. The lobby is very small so unless you are willing to stand for a while don't come too early. I was also surprised that you can actually buy a drink yes and alcoholic drink to drink while you're in the theater. This is an old independent movie house That has been converted into a live theater. It still has all of its charm but it's also showing his age and its use. I believe that it is struggling to stay open because after the production they asked for donations in the red bucket. The production itself was pretty good- all very young actors with few exceptions. read more

I have wanted to go to the Media Theatre for a long time now, and I'm so glad I went! Wanda Sykes is now in their production of Annie, which was so wonderful and brought me back to my child obsession of playing the record over and over and over and over. The theatre has a small bar/concession stand when you first walk in to the main lobby, and they also have one in the upstairs lounge. I saw many peope drinkin brews in the theatre area, which I thought was pretty cool (and they let you have the glass bottles which was even cooler). It was very crowded for such a little space, and the seating is a little confusing, but there is nothing to complain about. You can tell that they think of anything they can to generate money, being that it's a non-profit, with souvenirs from the show and locally fresh soft pretzels, etc, which shows that they really care about keeping the shows going. I also love that on the day of the show, many restaurants will give you a 10% discount. They have matinees and evening shows. read more

Media Theatre has a great reputation for producing top Broadway musicals. This theatre uses professionals from Actors Equity as well as their own groomed artists. On the weekends parking is free. Ask the box office about the local restaurants. When you show your ticket stub to one of the participating eateries you'll get a discount designated for theatre patrons. In addition to their live shows they have The New School which produces top quality young performers. And, they have reasonably priced childrens shows on Saturday mornings. Media Theatre is located in Delaware County close to Philadelphia, Pa., Wilmington, Delaware and is 20 minutes from the Philadelphia Airport. Came from out of town to see Next to Normal showing at the Media Theater. Very intimate venue and a well done show. I liked that there were plenty of bathroom stalls for the women (probably six or more) for the size of the theater. That was a nice surprise. Concessions were also available. The town of Media looked adorable and I wish we could have spent more time. Sadly, we had to get going to miss the impending snow. I would return to this theater again. read more

Newsies is great fun! A terrific show for kids, teens, and adults alike. Great story with memorable songs and fun dancing numbers. This was my first time at Media Theatre and a good place to see a show. The shows are ok- but there is one extremely rude staff person who acts like you just got his panties in a knot by calling to reserve tickets. It's a shame because the performances we've seen there have been decent. They should make sure the staff are representing the theater. Maybe that is why most of the shows are half full. read more

if you've never been to Media Theatre I highly recommend checking out one of the Broadway Series shows. Typically my husband and I go to the Philadelphia or New York, however by the time you purchase a ticket, park the car and buy dinner we spend over $300. The Media Theatre is a secret gem for the Delaware Valley. The tickets were affordable, no cost to park, and most restaurants in Media offer a discount with day of ticket stub. I was impressed by the professional cast of Throughly Modern Millie. In addition, I am planning to take the kids back for one of the Children''s series shows. This month is Willy Wonka. I used to LOVE media theatre. I went to camp here as a kid and have seen many shows over the year. Most recently in December my grand mom and I went to go see Beauty and The Beast. With the cost of this tickets, you'd think that you would get a playbill. They said that everyone does not get one because they will run out. They still had two more weeks left of the show! They said they will only give one for every two people. It's ridiculous. So disappointing. I used to love media theatre. I won't support them anymore. We just saw West Side Story and I couldn't be more impressed. The staging, dancing and singing were superb. The orchestra was perfect. It was funny and moving. I was in tears several times and could have sobbed at the end if I had been alone ! My husband and 15 year old loved it as well. Kudos to all for this wonderful production and performance. read more

The Media Theatre is truly a glowing Gem in the area. Its one of the top-6 largest theaters in the whole Philadelphia area in a 100 year old building. For their Broadway series they use professional actors and actresses brought in from both Broadway (New York) and Philadelphia arts scene. After seeing our first show, we bought season tickets. The quality is top-notch and cost is low -- you can even go out to dinner in Media before the show. They also have a kids theater series, and a theater / acting training and camp. Their recent Rent show was amazing. read more
