I've always wanted to visit this place but the hours are limited (early morning to 2pm or so. When I walked in another customer was just being told he had to pay with cash or check and I was like "ohhh noooo!" Because after waiting so long I was bummed since I only had a credit card. A clerk asked what I wanted and I said nevermind, I didn't have cash. The other guy heard me, asked if I was getting something small, I said a cookie, and he very kindly put it on his order! Meek's has been a staple my entire life. To this day, whenever we are home for a weekend, one of us will get up on Saturday at 6am to go pick from the best selection of donuts for the family. We will then go home and catch a few more hours of sleep. This is a pro tip as typically selections start to dwindle after about 9am. Our family favorites are vanilla cream filled long johns and tiger tails (vanilla/chocolate glazed twists). I grew up in Defiance. As a kid I always loved the maple filled sticks!!! I don't remember even trying another donut there (but I am sure I did). A few years ago we brought my daughter and grandkids to visit family and had to stop here more than once. I recently bought a birthday cake there. In the past, their cakes have been legendary. I don't know if they are under new management or have changed their recipe to try to offer more healthy options, but the cake was terrible! The icing was just awful! I've been buying cakes there for many years and this is the first time I had something that tasted that bad. My sister who now lives in Cleveland always stops there to get a cake to take home. She said the last time she was here, her cake also tasted just awful. She ended up throwing it away. I had to throw mine away.
