I went in and showed them proof that I was moving away from the area and there was not a location anywhere near me. When I moved, I signed a paper stating I wanted to end my contract. A few months ago, I realized they were still charging me and called to cancel. I was told I needed to send a letter to officially cancel. I sent a letter. When I was charged again two months later, I called again. I was quite angry at this point because I had already tried to cancel twice. She refused to cancel over the phone. She asked me to send another cancelation letter. So, I sent a super snarky letter about how pissed I was about the situation. And today, I got a call from collections saying I had been turned in for not paying my bill. I called her, and she told me that not only did I need to send ANOTHER LETTER of cancelation, but I needed to have proof that I had moved AND send it certified mail. Even though my contract had ended AND I had been trying to cancel for over a year.

Decent place but predatory contracts - worse than many other gyms and there are nice alternatives locally. They do have a minimum yearly membership to get a better rate. That part is well advertised. However, even after a 3 year membership, they will not honor a request to stop your membership. If you are leery about it and they refuse, put your membership on a prepaid credit card or one that you don't mind canceling. When you call your credit card company to cancel the account, they won't hesitate to close your account that day. (as any reasonable business will do that)
