Not worth 1 star, but had to choose something ... Booked a bus for 4am departure from Kingston ON. We had a flight to catch at Toronto Pearson Airport. We were going to arrive at airport hours before we needed to (due to limited bus service availability). We sat at the bus depot for 2.5hours. Driver never did arrive. No notifications that the bus driver was late, or that it wouldn't be leaving as scheduled. On top of the $250 in bus tickets, we then had to pay for a uber to make the 2+hr trip to be at the airport on time (another $480 expense). When we complained about the terrible service and lack of notice to its patrons; the company offered an insulting $10 credit to be used on their bus lines. Not per person or per ticket .... $10 total. Basically they said 'thanks for the donation' and peaced out. Absolutely will NEVER use this Company as an option of travel. And I highly recommend you don't either. read more

Similar to others stories, Megabus didn't show up leaving me scrambling with my two kids to figure out how to make a new travel plan. when I called them to explain they said the bus was there. I told them I don't see how I could have missed it as I was there 15 mins before departure time and waiting 30 mins after. they offered a scripted response basically saying too bad. could have really saved the situation to offer a refund for the missed trip. I would never use their services again and feel compelled to warn others. read more

2-12-15 The Megabus is a much maligned service. It's thrifty,so you get what you pay for. The worst part of it is that they do not provide shelter for passengers waiting for the bus to arrive/ depart. The passenger is at the mercy of the elements. There is no dispatcher at the bus stops. Nor anyone to clean snow and open a path. Having said that. I had riden it twice. The drivers are very friendly, the ride itself felt safe. The bus is a double decker. The ground level has fewer seats and some double tables. Most of the single seats are upstairs with a panoramic glass roof. The NYC stops are at 28 th St & 7 Ave, and 34 St & 12 Ave (not the best place to be at 6:00 AM) Anyway, you cannot beat the price. read more

When you call the support number you get a person in the Philippines that does not have specific information about why bus is late and when it will arrive. Terrible service experience. read more

A pleasant driver makes all the difference and today I was lucky to have one. As Megabus grows and becomes cleaner, friendlier and more comfortable, the cabins could REALLY use some rules of passenger conduct clearly posted throughout... Listen up yous: Keep your feet (especially your BARE feet!!) OFF the furniture. I'm sure everyone has a pet peeve but this is absolutely nasty yet commonplace on Megabus. As for the company, place "reserved seat" signs on chairs that are reserved. Not much point in paying for a reserved seat when you find someone sleeping on it when you board, or worse, scrubbing their dirty feet into it. Communicate the standards you wish your passengers to maintain for customers committed to quality... or simply a bus ride that doesn't smell like toe jam. read more

Stranded in Syracuse! Decided to give Megabus a try to go to NYC. Bus arrived about 20 minutes late, and was already half-full of passengers from Rochester. The bus completely filled up with more than 50 people still waiting in line in the 20 degree cold, and they had no idea if or when another bus would be coming. I called customer service twice 30 minutes apart and was told both times "We're not the dispatchers, so we don't know. Call back in 15 minutes." When I asked for a refund so we could take Greyhound instead, they said I have to submit it online and they can't help with that or promise anything. About 2 hours after the original departure time, we were emailed with an update that there would be a bus from another company, but at that point we were already on Greyhound. What a waste of a morning! read more

Mega Bust. I planned a trip to NYC using MegaBus for a round trip. The departing bus was late to station, smelled of pot and was completely disorganized. The chairs are uncomfortable, there is little air ventilation, and I was unable to relax during the 5+ hour ride. Trying to return home was even more difficult. After missing the bus by 2 minutes, I managed to flag down the bus yet they would not let me on. I tried again to explain I had a ticket and they refused to let me on. This left me with one option, I had to purchase another ticket home. But this time I used Grey Hound. Their busses are clean, quiet, organized and they even went over safety for the bus. Next time I will be planning all my trip through Grey Hound instead. Mega Bust. read more

I rode the mega bus from new york to syracuse Wednesday june 26. I reserved a table seat which i was charged for..long story short the table and chair was dirty so i told the driver and he told a guy i guess who's in charge of cleaning the bus..so the guy got on the bus looked and said its not dirty i showed him the stains which looked like splattered coffe or soda and he insisted it wasn't dirty then said maybe your house is dirty!!!! I was flabbergasted!!! I usually take greyhound and they are always so clean and nice so this was my 1st megabus experience and i can tell u this its definitely my last this man should be reprimanded!!!! Thats not how u speak to people and especially a paying customer! I know nothing is going to happen to this man but I just had to share my story read more

Beware!!!!! Company takes your money and don't do their part. Bus was two hours late. I missed my connection in Washington DC. Had to wait 2 more hours. They sent a email saying that the bus had broke down. Customer service is rude as hell. They don't care they just want your money. Deplorable customer service , the driver was extremely rude to passengers , the bus was 40 min late and made no apology for late arrival , found the entire boarding experience to be unprofessional . As far as inside of the bus decent for what you expect for the price , bus had chargers, WiFi didn't think was on , clean and quiet cabin . If you're someone that wants the most economic fare , you will get what you pay for , I suggest Greyhound . read more

Genuinely megabus is the best service i've taken. I used to use all of the other bus services and they have less leg room, break down more frequently, and more spotty wifi. Mega bus's wifi has worked every time. You can also pay a couple bucks more to get pretty awesome seats with a lot of space. Prices are comparable to comps but I feel like you get more for it. Highly recommend if you're looking to travel on budget and in comfort :) read more

Stranded in Buffalo! $89 FOR TWO MISSED BUSES AND NO REFUNDS! If you are reading these reviews before using Megabus, I commend you. I wish I had done so. I last used Megabus 5 years ago to go from Albany, NY to New York City. It was okay. I would've rated that experience 3 stars. It wasn't good, but it wasn't bad either. That was 5 years ago. This latest experience, however, was my last ride with Megabus. Due to the incompetence of both the driver and the company, I was unable to use two of the three tickets I bought: Buffalo to Chattanooga (cost: $75) and Chattanooga to Nashville (cost: $14). The total cost of the missed tickets was $89. The bus was supposed to depart Syracuse at 5:50, but it was about ten to fifteen minutes late. That was no big deal. However, the driver stopped before the first Rochester exit for a "15 minute break" that seemed much longer than 15 minutes. He then drove past the exit and had to turn around and take the second (slower, longer) exit into Rochester. By the time the bus arrived in Buffalo, it was at least 45 minutes late and caused me to miss the other buses. I attempted to contact Megabus by phone several times that night after learning that I missed the Buffalo-Chattanooga bus. The first couple "customer service" reps to respond simply hung up on. I finally got a call back from Cheryl at customer service (908-282-7420) at 2:30 that morning, but by then I'd already found alternative travel arrangements and gone to sleep for the night. I have tried to return the phone call when I had time on Thursday and Friday night, but was unable to reach anyone to explain my situation. I sent an email and finally received an answer much later. Perhaps because it's easier to cheat people over email than it is when you're confronted with the voice of another human being at the other end of the phone line. Megabus' website says the company is not responsible for delays caused by traffic, road conditions, or weather. However, the FAQ on their website says that "where Megabus fails to provide on time-reliable service for reasons wholly within our control refunds, or alternative travel arrangements, may be offered." WRONG. I was not offered a refund or alternative travel arrangements. All I got was the cold shoulder, and an even colder email from the company. Miranda, the Megabus "Customer Service Specialist," informed me that "we require that you allow two hours in between trips to account for any delays that may be experienced." That's B.S. I have never had a layover that long with any competing bus service. I won't name the competitors in this review because this is about Megabus and their shoddy service. Just name a competitor; they're better than Megabus. They can't be any worse. Go back with me, for a moment, to the night and morning I was stranded in Buffalo. After waiting for the return call that never came, I bought my own ticket to Nashville from a competitor at the Buffalo bus terminal, at a cost of $125. Combined with the $89 for the two missed buses and the $14 cost of the one bus that did show up in Syracuse, the trip cost me $228. I could have FLOWN from Syracuse to Nashville for a lower cost than that. Here's my advice to anybody taking the bus: buy from a reputable company with a customer service desk at the station and a sensible return policy. I bought a return ticket with a competing intercity bus service from Nashville to Utica for $99. The bus from Buffalo to Syracuse was about 45 minutes late. The time between arrival in Syracuse and departure for Utica was only 20 minutes (the SAME amount of time between arrival and departure in Buffalo with Megabus!) That competing company HELD the Utica bus until the connecting passengers got there. What a concept! I've come to accept that Megabus will cling to my $89 as hard as they can, even if it costs them much, much more than that in future revenue I would've spent with them. They don't care. They got my money, and even without my future money they'll make bank off future suckers like me who didn't read the reviews or the fine print before buying tickets. I'm writing to warn you, that potential future mark in the Megabus scam, so maybe you can save $89, or even more than that. Even if it's only $14. If you take my advice, you'll be $14 richer. If after reading this review you still want to buy a Megabus ticket, do yourself a favor: take the money, burn it, and flush the ashes. You'll be out the same amount of money, but you won't be stranded by Megabus and have to spend a night and morning trying to sort out that headache. WORST BUS SERVICE EVER! If you are going anywhere even 30 minutes away do not use megabus! Me and my friends were going from Syracuse to New York City we woke up early and the bus was 3 HOURS LATE!!! 3 hours standing in the cold waiting for a bus. When it finally arrives it is not even a megabus! it is a coach bus with no charging station, no good air, no wifi, and it is overfull and cramped. We got to NYC 4 hours later than expected and needed to change our tickets with the compensation we should of received BUT CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS RUDE AND DID NOT CARE. We got around 12 times ( no exaggeration) they say they are not offering compensation and we cannot change our departure time. Long story short we buy a different ticket to go home so we can spend more time in the city 3 TOTAL TICKETS!! on or way back not only is the bus 30 minutes late AGAIN but it is not a megabus ONCE AGAIN SO NO SPACE, NO WIFI, and my phone was dead with no where to charge. IT IS FALSE ADVERTISEMENT you do not get the services you pay for, you do not even get the bus you pay for. Keep in mind people pay extra for skycap seats. ALL IN ALL USE ANOTHER BUS MEGABUS WILL HAVE U LATE AND UNCOMFORTABLE. You are better off paying the extra money for another bus service. I traveled out of Syracuse with my family at the end of January 2018. If I could give Megabus a zero rating I would. We arrived an hour early for a 230am bus. Either that bus didn't show up or it was running hours late. We couldn't reach a human being to find out which. Ironically, around 345am a Greyhound agent helped me locate an emergency corporate number. There was one man on call for emergencies at corporate HQ in NJ. He couldn't (or wouldn't) help me or find out if our bus was delayed or canceled. At around 4 am I rescheduled us on a 635am Megabus online. At 418am I got a text message saying that the 635am bus would be 60-90 min. late. No more updates. Bus showed up at 935am but was a smaller Coach USA bus. We were CRAMMED in. Words to the wise: With Megabus there is no one to turn to for help. You are expected to wait outdoors when frigid temps, wind, precipitation in late January. Once I was finally able to reach a human being at 8 a.m. he was in Asia, hard to understand, terrible VOIP connection. Info he gave was completely inaccurate. This was the worst travel experience I've ever had. Stay away from Megabus. They should not be allowed to operate in places where the weather can be as cold as it is in Syracuse, NY.
