It's the type of place everyone bitches about until it closes; then they lament the fact that they are stuck living in a food desert. I don't play those games. While I don't shop there exclusively, I do so proudly. With a florist, pharmacy, bakery and deli under one roof you can check a lot off your errand list at Sparkle. The bakery is adequate, and the deli is a damn sight better than the pig slop Wal-Mart will sell you. I've also gotten some surprisingly great deals on beer and wine. There's a WRTA bus stop in front of Sparkle, so those who aren't fortunate enough to own a car can still pick up a birthday cake, prescription drug or missing ingredient for that new recipe. That's important. Profit margins are paper thin in the grocery game and I'm surprised places like Sparkle can stay afloat in the current year. But I'm thankful they do.

They carry literally any fresh or packaged Italian ingredient you can think of (including beer/wine, because it isn't PA). Like pre-weighted portions of chestnut flour, if you need it for some reason. The best thing there is their giant hot spinach strombolis, which they have on weekends. I go to Youngstown from Pittsburgh mostly for this store once or twice a year.
