Meineke Recreation Center (the location on Weathersfield Rd) is pretty decent for basic workouts. They have plenty of machines, weights and stationary bikes in 1 room. The coinciding gym also has a nice walking/jogging track above it with windows so it doesn't feel like you're closed in. They have secure lockers, showers and changing areas. It's not too crowded during weekdays and getting in and out is a breeze. Price structure on memberships is very reasonable. Staff is very helpful and can provide info on many of the various classes and programs. read more

ALWAYS broken treadmills and stationary bikes that stay unusable for weeks and weeks. Even the ones that 'work' aren't fully operational such as no heart monitor and sound issues on tv. Despite alerting staff to issues nothing gets fixed with some units out for over a month. Equipment is marginally clean. I do enjoy this workout center and would give it better ratings if it wasn't so frustrating to find working equipment when visiting. I am left confused as to why repair and upkeep is so tardy or absent. read more

This review is purely on the swimming for toddlers class, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. Seems like any teenager can be a teacher here, all you need to know is how to swim. Which if that's the case I could save money and teach my own child to swim. Children teaching children how to swim with very little effort, if I wanted to sign-a-long with my child I would have sign up for a different class. This was a test to try out a new place, which did not work out for us. After all we went back to Pro Swim Academy - they really focus on your child's improvement, smaller classes, great amenities, and positive attitude taught by real teachers. Don't waste your money on these lessons, unless you just want to attend so you can stay at the water park for free. read more

These parks are awesome! Our two little boys (6 and 8 years old) loved playing all day at the Ninga park and then the traditional park close by. They played on the obstacles, running area and all the climbing equipment. Burned off so much energy and slept so well after! Will definitely be back many more times! read more

Let's be real here for a minute, yes? Schaumburg lacks a charming downtown and aesthetic beauty (thanks to the numerous outdated strip malls), but if you look a little closer you'll notice something special. Schaumburg's parks abound with natural beauty and wildlife. A walk alongside Gray Farm Park's wetlands will leave you feeling serene; a visit to Spring Valley Nature Center will guarantee sightings of animals big and small; and Victoria Park boasts a lovely setting with plenty to entertain the whole family. The parks seem vastly underused, so it's unlikely that you'll need to wait for a swing or a tennis court. They are meticulously maintained, while still preserving the natural beauty. I'm so very thankful to live near so many parks with amazing trails, playgrounds, picnic areas, and calming landscapes. Schaumburg Park District also deserves praise for their wonderful programming. Every season, I look forward to looking through the 70+ page catalog that arrives at my door. We've signed up for classes ranging from yoga in a log cabin to Lego robotics to Tot Rock. There's a wide selection of classes for all age groups. They also offer numerous special events, like Santa visits to residents' homes, bingo nights with awesome prizes and one of our personal faves, mother/son date nights. So much fun! SPD's summer camps also rock. They're affordable and include camps ranging from "survival" camps to sports camps to fieldtrip-based camps. I HIGHLY recommend the summer camps out of Spring Valley Nature Center - they're amazing. Speaking of summer camps, did you know Schaumburg Park District offers a FREE, drop-off camp called Wacky Wagon? My son has only gone a handful of times but he had a great time playing games with the high school/college aged counselors and again, it's effin' FREE! Those are your tax dollars coming right back at you, folks. The pools are wonderful too. I haven't splurged on a pool pass yet, but Waterworks, Atcher Island, Bock pool, and Meineke pool definitely deliver on hot days. And while we're discussing facilities, the modern Sports Center is enormous and offers high quality indoor soccer fields, volleyball and basketball courts, and gymnastics equipment. Overall, Schaumburg Park District has knocked my socks off. But, I would offer the following suggestions for improvement: 1) Open up the safety park more frequently and let the little ones ride the train. My daughter has literally been waiting years to try out that train. 2) Assess the quality of the staff/teachers. Some are awesome, friendly and effective; others not so much. 3) For the swimming program, hire more qualified teachers and create more targeted goals to demonstrate growth. Our kids were in lessons at the CRC for a few sessions with minimal progress. We moved them to a private swim school and they improved drastically. read more

Since it's been, well, 25 years since I've used the Schaumburg Park District facilities or classes for myself, I'll write this review from the eyes of my toddler but the language of an adult. You're welcome for that last part - she's still working on speaking complete thoughts and sentences. Parks: The parks throughout Schaumburg are plentiful and well maintained. I've been impressed with everything from the well manicured soccer fields to the varied kiddo equipment. Classes/Offerings: This is where I think there could be the most improvement. There are a lot of working parents out there with small children and I've only seen a very small handful of cool classes for wee ones (6 months-2 years) on Saturdays. The offerings definitely skyrocket after the age of 2, so I'll be looking forward to that come spring. Additionally, I (speaking from a pregnant woman's POV) have seen little to no prenatal or postnal targeted fitness offerings. People in Schaumburg are having babies, right? There's a need for focused classes like these! Pools: Meineke is well loved as is the CRC. I haven't made it to the water parks yet, but my kiddo has much enjoyed the indoor pool (and toddler swimming class) at the CRC. Facilities: Meineke underwent a pretty cool renovation years back, so their fitness equipment and layout are much improved. If the class offerings were a bit more varied for adults and small kids, I'd probably use the facilities much more often right now. Website: The other area that could use a facelift. The actual website is fine, but the online registration is clunky, cumbersome and super antiquated. The search function isn't great nor is the flow to sign up for classes. read more

Husband and I came to check out the new Challenge Course today. It's pretty fancy, with a two-lane 40 yard dash track that has a timer which gets triggered when you step on the start and finish lines. The course itself looks really cool too, with a bunch of obstacles to challenge yourself with. There's an info board / map of the course off to the side, which shows you what to do on each piece of equipment, as well as what skills are being improved at each station. In short, it looks awesome! I say it "looks" awesome, because it was completely covered in kids. Despite the info board stating that it's not a playground and it's intended for people 13 and older, and despite there being an actual playground located in the same park, people stood by as their kids played all over it. That's life, I guess, but makes the course virtually unusable for its purpose. I would love to come back and try it sometime - maybe if I can convince myself to be an early morning workout person, I can give it another go. read more

Love it! The people who work there are very caring and you have no trouble registering or getting a refund. The facilites are nice, well maintained and clean. I have been to several parties at the Sports Center and my son had his Bulls Basketball clinic there. The CRC is the main facility and has a wonderful swim program with lot's of times available. Tennis Plus faciltiy is spacious and inviting. read more

Don't go to Meineke's Adult Open Volleyball if you don't like seeing whole teams being discriminated against because they don't play perfectly. Drove an hour for the worst open volleyball experience ever. So glad other places are full of kind people who let everyone join in because it is OPEN volleyball. I was ashamed of the people there who absolutely refused to play with one of the teams because they aren't as skilled, leaving that team to play with no one. Never again. There were enough people for 4 teams. You play a couple and then you switch. People refused because they didn't want to play with this polish team. They weren't horrible! So they couldn't slam their spikes down! Who cares? The volleyball snobs would rather rotate 3 teams, having obviously one team sitting out while they wait to play the winner, while the polish team is on a court by themselves. read more

Great customer service! I just called the Schaumburg Park District to transfer one of my daughter's classes. Friendly staff answered and transferred. No trouble at all! My new receipt will be mailed to me (hopefully before the next class starts). Would've given 5 stars if they emailed the receipt to me right away and I had proof of the successful transfer already in hand. All in all, very pleased. read more
