I had a pleasant experience with Mel. He's been in the Chicagoland area for 25 years. It's funny that he got a bad review previously when he is the teacher of one of the Chicago psychics with the best reviews on Yelp, Delphina, who is also the person who referred me to him! He is definitely a professional. Mel is also a wedding officiant. I was asked in advance if dogs or smoking were a problem for me, so I was not surprised by the dog or smell of cigarettes. They will accommodate to you if it is a problem for you. I was called early to alert me that Mel was running a bit late, so I came in later than my appointment time and did not wait long. The first thing I did in my reading was write my name, date of birth, and place of work on the page he would be writing on for my reading. The entire reading is written on paper by him for you to take home for reflection. We went into conversation regarding an individual and I found he was attaining energy from this individual accurately and was helpful in providing me with insight into the current and future circumstances. He also branched out into intentions of third parties and also accurately depicted these individuals in the reading. Everything that Mel and I discussed was exactly as it is in the current state, but details unknown to me were also explained for an overall sense of understanding of the entire "horizon," so to speak. I got a good vibe from him and our discussion. We definitely were on the same page throughout the entire reading. Mel has stated that in terms of specific time frames he can be off. This is a weak point of his, but he alerts you of a number. Numbers can be an amount of days, weeks, or months, and can also represent a number of a month (i.e. 11 - November). He is also always sure to tell you whether or not he feels years can be a factor in the time frame, but in my case they were not years. This small detail is minuscule when taking the entire reading into consideration. I am not disappointed by any means and would definitely recommend him. I also brought a picture of someone I wanted to discuss, so you can do that too. It's important to note that all psychics don't have certain "criteria" that make them capable of energetic connection. For some people, they use tarot cards as a vessel. Other psychics can just look at you. Some psychics, like Mel, utilize basic demographic information to tune into you or remotely tune into someone who isn't there. This is not unusual and doesn't make him a bad psychic. I learned of Mel from the Infinity Foundation course catalog and had come across his name every time I perused the newest edition over the past couple of years. What struck me about him was the volunteering of his time and talents in providing readings and donating the money to raise money for Infinity's annual gala. I sensed a goodness about him, and one day I felt a strong urge to call and make an appointment. I had not met Mel before my appointment of 3/14/17 nor do I know anyone who has received a reading from him. I live more than 90 minutes from his office, yet he is the one I felt I needed to see. His reading did not disappoint. He's kind and quirky, making him very personable. The readings are conversational in nature, which I found helpful. I had not gone in with specific questions, but I didn't need to. Mel addressed the all-important subjects of my world without prompting. I sat in rapt attention as Mel articulated various details of my life and its developments. I didn't want the session to end. He provided clarity and reassurance on major life decisions I had made or was considering making. It was a powerful experience, and I do believe his gifts and talents are genuine. I had several "Aha!" moments after I left the reading when, upon reflection, his statements "clicked." Someone close to me, a skeptic and one with whom I have a "let's agree to disagree" relationship on matters involving spirituality, acknowledged the insights Mel shared with me would not be available via a Google or Facebook search. I've seen a handful of intuitives in my life and they have different strengths. One of Mel's strengths is that he has an incredible ability to pick up names and phrases. In addition to identifying certain people by their names, he frequently referred to someone close to me by a particular phrase who uses that phrase often and is the only person I associate that phrase with. Mel had another client immediately before me and immediately after. His secretary took client calls while I waited. I gather he is quite busy, which I find a positive quality suggesting he has good business for a reason. I arrived early for my 2:30 appointment, and while I did not check the clock when I went into his office, I don't think it was much after my scheduled time. I'd rather have a skilled psychic, doctor, mechanic, etc. than a punctual one, and if he had been running significantly behind, I would have found the session to have been worth the wait. I read some of the other reviews - both good and bad - when drafting my own, and while I can only speak to my own experience, I suspect those who enter the session judging the office décor or feeling slighted because Mel chatted with his secretary between appointments may have set the tone for their own reading and not been open to receive all he has to offer. To make a long story short, don't waste your money here. To make a short story long... My scheduled appointment was delayed by over an hour because Mel wanted to squeeze in a friend of one of his other clients 'cause it was her birthday. I would have had no problem with that except the receptionist should have called me to let me know, but she was too busy with her personal phone calls. So I ended up arriving on time and sat in the waiting room for over an hour reading some magazines from 2 years ago. To be fair, I did get a modest discount on my reading due to the delay. The office reminded me of a church basement and reeked of cigarette smoke, so don't wear clothes you actually care about. He and his staff won't smoke while you're there if you don't want them to, but that doesn't mean the second hand lung cancer-causing stuff just magically disappears. Also, if you don't mind dogs, Mel will have one of his running freely around the place. When you call to make an appointment, his staff member will ask you about your preferences and provide you with some information. A reading costs $150 (cash only, at least for the first time) for one hour. Mel will ask you to write down your name, date of birth and age at the beginning of the reading. He will ask you for the full name and age of anyone you ask him about. He will ask you a lot of other questions. Not sure why he would need all this information if he's a real psychic. He will write his predictions down for you to take home. Mel asked me a lot of questions and made educated guesses based on the provided information. For example, when I asked about a family member's health, he asked for her full name and age and proceeded to say something general like..."She will have blood pressure issues." First he says high blood pressure, observes my reaction closely, and changes his "prediction" to low blood pressure after I give him a quizzical look. It also seemed like he was just telling me what I wanted to hear. Most of his predictions do not have any kind of time line - of the two that actually did, he's been off the mark for one, and the other's still going to need a few years to test. I'm not going to hold my breath. If his major predictions actually do turn out to be accurate, I'll edit my rating and review. -------------------- UPDATE (6/26/12) In response to Angelina T.'s review, she's obviously someone from Mel's office trying to salvage his reputation. Otherwise, how would she have supposedly known what day I went in for my reading? Mentioning having his dog in the office was just an FYI for others who may be fearful of or allergic to dogs, not a complaint by any means. To update, I've downgraded my rating to ZERO STARS given the barrage of fake positive reviews all posted on the same day which demonstrates shady business practice. Thank goodness for Yelp's filter function. I'd mentioned in my original review that I would addend my review and rating if Mel's predictions turn out to be accurate, which, to date, they haven't. Unfortunately he just told me what I wanted to hear instead of the truth. If he truly stands behind his "gift from God", he should feel confident that time will tell and this review will evolve accordingly instead of resorting to crooked tactics. In the mean time, I would recommend someone more likely to be authentic like Delphina. Of note, she has all 5 star reviews written by people who didn't just coincidentally join Yelp this month, have more than one other review under their belts, and oh, aren't the person being reviewed! read more

I will not be returning to Mel. Two fundamental issues: 1. Customer service: In both times that I visited Mel (I only returned a second time because the first go around I was slightly intrigued, but not fully satisifed - thought I'd give it a second go) he was late to get started (only about 5 minutes, but that is a lot when you're spending $150), left at one point to take a phone call and played on his phone (texting). I found this very inappropraite. Mel also went on long tangents during my readings about his personal life. With all do respect, I don't really care - this is a paid session and spending 15 minutes talking about yourself is not acceptable. 2. Lack of talent: Based on my experiences with Mel, I am not fully convinced of his 'powers'. My readings with him were years apart - many of the specific items he discussed during the first readings were debunked (example: he mentioned lay offs in my company were coming and, with great confidence, said my job would be spared - almost two weeks after our meeting, I was laid off). Some things he said did resonate, and that is why I returned. I could not decide if they resonated because he had true talent or made slick educated guesses based on my age, gender and info provided. I know believe the latter. During my second reading, he asked a lot of questions - far too many to be legit. If he was the real deal, there was no reason to require such a specific amount of information. Leveraging that info (which I reluctinatley shared because I'm polite) he made more educated, and vauge, predictions. Many of which he back pedeled on when he saw my expression or reaction. I noticed that a lot in the meeting, it was very easy to tell that he was using that observation strategy to lead his predictions. Real or not - I obviously can't say for certain because I'm not Mel. Mel is simply one in a million! He is much more than an intuitive, he also provides me with very sage advice and heartfelt support. Mel is a no "bs" guy and sometimes he has some pretty challenging stuff to tell me--he definitely is NOT one of those who just tells you what you want to hear. Yes sometimes he runs behind. But that would be because he is extremely generous with his time and he is good about having his staff give ya a call if there is a time issue. It is important to know too that anyone who is familiar with the intuitive community knows that Mel Doerr has been a fixture in Chicagoland for many years. He is a full time intuitive, very booked up and there ain't no neon PSYCHIC sign display at his office. I will start by saying I have been to get a reading with Mel 4 times now. What Mel does is absolutely incredible. Words can not describe, what you will walk away with. He is authentic. I first met Mel at a class on intuition. I thought he was very good. He also told us about his police work. In the class he gave informal short readings and I found his guidance to be accurate. At least 10 years later, a friend of mine was going through a difficult time: her former son-in-law was missing. Police were out searching and everyone was extremely worried. I offered her Mel's number in case she felt like contacting him. She did and he talked to her for quite a while. He told her where to help direct the police to look for the missing person and let her know he was deceased. I just recently met with A different "healer, psychic" only because friends of ours set it up in a group situation. After meeting with this person, I decided to go back and read what Mel had said 17 years ago to me. (I had a written and recorded account of my time with him) Say what you will, but my then boyfriend and I were going through some difficulties due to his insecurities from childhood. I first visited Mel Doerr ten years ago, when nothing in my life was working out and I was about to embark on a number of major life changes.
