Delicious buffet dinner. Lots to choose from. Japanese sushi, cold cuts, cheese galore, hot food from the grill like truffle gnocchi and grilled steak. Garlic butter lobster ( not good as it was over cooked and meat was very tough). Loved the dessert bar! Lots of variety and the bread and butter pudding is the best!

We had breakfast her when staying at the Langham hotel as the Melba is part of the Langham. The buffet breakfast is to die for there is a huge variety of food to keep you satisfied or you can eat until you burst. The staff are very attentive and when you arrive seat you and offer tea or coffee and the you go and ogle the food and grab a plate and let the stacking begin. There everything from fresh fruit for juices to continental breakfast or you can have the chefs whip you up an omelette or poached eggs. There a great selection of cheeses, nuts, fruits, yoghurt, cold meats, breakfast cereals and breads, some danishes for the sweet toothed. There also a large chocolate fountain to indulge yourself with. The restaurant looks out over the banks of the Yarra river and being on the first floor gives a very pleasant view in the morning and an even better view at night when the city comes alive. I have had dinner here on a previous stay and it was quite nice also with a large selection of dishes to choose from. It was a little bit pricey but well worth it and just sitting taking in the lovely view while having a glass of wine or what ever you like is very pleasant. I will happily return here in the future for either breakfast or dinner as there was so much more food to enjoy than I could manage to try.

A great place for a romantic dinner with fantastic views over the Yarra. Its not cheap so I hope you really want to impress. You wont be dissapointed. The food is delicious and portions are generous. Service is honest and wonderful. I have had the duck over lentils...yum and the Idian thali - a selection of curries cooked by Indians - yum yum. Thete is a $90 buffet which I highly recommed if you are hungry, want to impress a client or a person. Tip: you can have the same menu at the bar if you want someting more casual yet delicious. For alacarte, the mains are plenty but leave room for dessert. About $65 each with a glass of wine

Walking through the foyer was breathtaking. The expectation of Melba had just risen as it as our first time. The staff were lovely and attentive. We were given a little tour and shown where everything is before we were seated. The food was beautiful and there was plenty of everything including an abundance of seafood. More than what I would have expected for a Thursday night. Unfortunately I found some of the dessert quite old and dry. So dry it was inedible. I opted for more cheese and crackers with semi dried fruit to savor my huge dessert palate. I would have given this a 5 star rating if the desserts were satisfying. I gave them some feedback before I left. Whether they use this information or not is up to them. Would I come back? Absolutely!

You pay for the environment and to a degree the service.. we had service but nothing exceptional! unless you eat enough sashimi, oysters, prawns to the value of $99 I wouldn't suggest it. Can get better meal for that amount. eg. decent steak. Anyways quality here is good with an ok to good selection.. desert was a bit disappointing.. not enough selection. good all round buffet but $$$$ for what it is. YMMV.

Located in the Langham Hotel, this buffet is a very popular choice, as it seems to constantly be buzzing with diners no matter what day of the week. Melba buffet offer a range of fresh seafood, sushi/sashimi, roast meats, western dishes as well as cook to order Asian stirfrys and a variety of curries. A very popular aspect of Melba, is its naan bread. Cooked to order, you choose your ingredients-be it chili, cheese, garlic, parsley or chocolate. The chef then makes this in front of you and places it into a traditional tandoor oven- which takes around 2 minuets to cook. I really enjoy coming to Melba thanks to its variety of foods and the quality of them. The dessert bar is also something worth mentioning, as there is a huge selection of assorted cakes and desserts to try. The serving sizes of the desserts are small, so you are able to try most of them before filling up. There is also a chocolate fountain and ice cream available. The service at Melba is also good, as is the interior of the place. Its clean stylish nature produces an up class atmosphere that is far far away from your typical cheap and nasty buffets.

This is probably the fanciest buffets I've been to. With a sushi station, Indian station, noodle bar, roast bar, mini cake station and ice cream bar I walked into a very impressive buffet. The thing the impressed me the most though was how things were freshly made. You could order hand rolls on demand, pick your own noodles to be stir fried in front of you and have your naan fresh from the oven in minutes. The star attraction was definitely the naan for me a choice of plain naan, cheese naan, herb and cheese, garlic and cheese, herb and garlic, spinach and cheese, lamb and cheese and even chocolate and m&m naan. I was a bit overwhelmed with the selection and so tried a few but the herb and garlic was definitely my favourite as it brought out the flavour of the bread as I found the cheese to be a bit overpowering because they do put quite a lot in it. If you have a sweet tooth the dessert bar will definitely be your favourite. So many little delectable delights! They also have connnesiur ice cream which was a tick in my books. Buffet price is a tad on the expensive side so value for money wise I'm not sure it's actually worth it especially since the majority of what I ate was just bread so I think I can only give this place a 3/5 overall.

I may sound like I am really exaggerating here but this is one of the best buffets I have been to. I walk in a stunning hotel, looks like glam and glitter everywhere, I can tell it took ages to design to make a place this stunning. The staff were really friendly, not in your way all the time but very helpful. The food was like I was in heaven, for appetisers I got a selection of all these different types of cheese, salmon, salami, and cherry tomatoes, the salmon was the best tasting salmon ever! It had me in awe throughout the whole feast, there was so much selection I wish I had a big stomach to just eat all night. My second dish for my main was meat! Since my love for meat is more stronger then any other food I was a bit disappointed with their steak since I tasted better, but the sweet and sour pork made up for it! The chicken was just so soft it melted in my mouth, and the skin had an eruption of flavour just chewing it in my mouth, I had to have more! Then some more! Its like in my head I imagined a story of some Asian chef never going to sleep for 2 weeks just cooking this chicken trying to perfect the taste of the skin. Also the creamy mushroom pasta floated my boat ;) 2 Words, Sushi bar! They actually have a sushi bar and a sushi chef standing by, and you can tell him to make you custom sushi, they they even got that yellow caviar that you pop between your teeth and bursts flavour out. The girls will like the dessert menu, there are these little cups which they put little desserts in, since I am a bit of a gym junkie I only had two but I saw other people taking 6+! There was such a big variety and they even had a chocolate fountain! Have a look at the food porn I uploaded, simply irresistible, have your tongue in a frenzy, your pants unbuttoned, your mind in awe and your date bedazzled ;) Atmosphere: 9/10 Setting: 9/10 Service: 10/10 Food: 9/10

Breakfast they say, is the most important meal of the day, it gives you energy, gives you clarity…read moreto get through the day, it sets the tone. So finding the perfect breakfast, well let's face it, is reality easy in a city such as Melbourne. So many cafes and restaurants offering their take on poached eggs, smashed avocado sprinkled with the latest super food grain and freshly juiced kale and ginger juice makes it a smorgasbord of choices for today's customer. Hotel restaurants around the world have been offering up a breakfast buffet since the dawn of time, with a large degree of failure. The biggest challenge being keeping the offering hot and serving up a variety that keeps them a step a head of their competition. Collins Kitchen in the Grand Hyatt Melbourne offers up this time honoured tradition and where others have missed the mark the Hyatt have not only exceeded the mark but have set the barre to new heights. Firstly this is a grand restaurant overlooking the plain trees of Russell Street, with warm and inviting furniture that lets you know you're in a five star dining room in a world renowned hotel, a perfect place for the perfect breakfast. The major difference here is how they offer you the food, there is not a trestle table or Bain marie in sight, instead they have four show kitchens, each with a dedicated chef, either cooking to order your choice of eggs, be it poached or a wonderful fluffy omelette, or continually cooking crispy bacon, sauté mushrooms or an array of dim sum. Fresh fruit, an assortment of freshly baked bread and a chef offering to squeeze you a super juice, is awaiting you in another kitchen. There's a deli with smoked salmon, turkey and ham on offer with a great selection of cheese and crackers. If that doesn't fill you up then you'll need to head over to what one can only describe as heavens kitchen. Freshly made waffles and pancakes with fruit compotes and cream. Pastries and cakes galore will give anyone with a slight sugar addiction the fix they need. The only way to make this experience better would be to offer ice cream for the waffles, but that's just me being slightly greedy. This is not a place for a quick breakfast, to get the full experience you need to spend a couple of hours here and for $42 is certainly value for money.

High Tea at Hyatt So…read moreI just came back from the Hyatt high tea and I had a lovely time. The three of us were given two stands that displayed 9 sandwiches and 8 cakes. We were also given 10 scones and more than enough cream and jam (raspberry & fig) to accompany. The setting here at the Hyatt is beautifully laid out, the table settings are good quality and room oozes of class and style. The service was fantastic, the waiter for our table was extremely polite and professional. I found the servings to be very generous here, we had so many left over cakes-unfortunately they do not offer take away services, and so it's a bit of a waste if you don't finish it. The sandwiches included an egg salad, aged waygu beef and smoked salmon. The cakes included a chocolate mud, chocolate opera, pistachio sponge, cheesecake and strawberry mousse. I was also surprised by how many scones they gave us, did they really except us to eat that many? Overall this was a very pleasant afternoon, the ambience of the place was quite and relaxing and the prices were around $30ish per person. I will definitely head back here soon, perfect place for afternoon tea.

My son got the tonkatsu (breaded pork, but it had a slightly different name here). Normally this dish is served with a plum sauce, but not here. We did ask, but I'm guessing something was lost in the translation because they brought back the tempura dipping sauce. The dish itself was good. Our daughter had the tempura, which was ok. There was shrimp and veggies. The biggest problem with this dish was eggplant....the batter on these was undercooked....this was not pretty, and when I took a bite the oil just oozed out in my mouth. Our banquet included saki. My complaint here is normally this is served with the bottle in warm water to keep the saki warm, but this just came on its own. It wasn't long before the saki went cold. The soup was nice, the Goya was again, okay. The best part of e meal was our sushi....little California rolls and salmon. The salmon was just beautiful and the California rolls had different seeds on the outside that really gave it a nice flavour. The service was good, the food came out at a good pace. But overall they loose it in the quality of the food and preparation. With all the other Japanese restaurants around you can find a better place.

The environment was super classy, with high ceilings and marble walls and floors. The servers were polite and attentive majority of the time. There were a few times we had to flag them down to take away our used plates and refill our water and wine. The was an extremely wide selection of food. The categories include: salad, cold cuts, cheese, cold seafood (oyster, crab, lobster, shrimps, etc), carving station (turkey, ham, roast beef, lamb), Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Indian, dessert (chocolate fondue, ice cream, cakes). I wasn't able to try out all the food, but the dishes that stood out was the halved lobster with melted herb butter, the stir fried clam, baked salmon, roasted ham, raw oyster, Queenland tiger shrimp and the peppermint chocolate ice cream. The disappointing dishes include turkey (dry and rough), roast beef (dry), king crab (very mildly sweet to tasteless), roasted cauliflower (way to mushy), stir fried asparagus (tough and fibrous). Also, the sushi and sashimi selection was disappointing and the sashimi did not look fresh. The price of the wines were reasonable for a hotel restaurant.
