I have a package near completion to give to the VPD, but am utterly traumatized by the abuse I suffered. And now I have suffered a relapse of Fibromyalgia from a lack of emotional support. My health is a mess because I have waited so long. They do not offer the services that they say they do! I am devastated. I feel as though I have been victimized again, by Family Services of the North Shore. Clearly, my wellbeing is unimportant to them. Meanwhile, my ex-boyfriend, a psychopath is likely scouting out new victims to abuse and con. He abused and assaulted almost all of his exes. He needs to be held accountable and I need to recover. I'm a graduate of Northwestern University and was distraught over my outcomes with other psychiatrists. I felt like I didn't suffer through that school to be on disability. Susan is a breath of fresh air. While she isn't in-network with any insurance company, her prices are reasonable (she's worth every penny), and she will work with your insurance on things like getting your prescriptions covered, provide you with documentation if you have out-of-network coverage, and fill out any sort of job-related paperwork that may be needed. I think it's saying something that she keeps her patient population functioning so well that they can continue to see her, even in the rough times. Unlike so many other psychiatrists, to the best of my knowledge Susan doesn't have patients in long-term care facilities, nursing homes, or regularly in an inpatient setting. We're all contributing members of society and she keeps us that way. As psych patients, I believe that's the most we can ask for: to be indistinguishable from people without mental illness. When she arrived she asked me what I wanted to talk about and I didn't have anything on my mind because to be honest things have been going really well lately. She then grew frustrated and said I was wasting her time because I couldn't think of anything that bothered me this week. She said I could have told her yesterday that I didn't have anything to say. I informed her that would have been something I used to do, but since I am trying to actively change and do things different I thought I should keep it. She said she could have used the time for someone else, and asked me what I thought would happen today. I said I wasn't sure but thought she might ask questions or something else. She then said she thought she should charge me $100 no show fee because I didn't have anything to say. That's insane as I showed up to the appointment!!! She grew incredibly frustrated and unprofessional and said she no longer would work with me. I am totally fine with that as her true colors were shown to me today. I felt horribly betrayed and she is now the only stress I was having.

There is no way I could have brought the 3rd child in and leave the other 2 home. It would have been reckless, negligent and illegal. I have 2, 6 year olds and an 8 year old. She told me if the appointments were earlier in the week and we could reschedule that she would not have charged me, but since it was late in the week and could not reschedule that I was being charged out of pocket. I cannot plan when my children are sick.

Not exactly a sensitive way to speak to anyone with mental illness, or in general: "Hi Ms Katie. I'm so sorry to hear this. Every doctors office has a no show policy and I understand we all forget sometimes and this is why we offer options to reschedule. By not respecting our policy you're telling me it's okay for Heaven to wait around while she too has a budget she lives on. I do apologize that this is not making any sense to you and I apologize we can't meet your needs. We wish you the best and truly hope you find someone who doesn't have a no show policy. For example, it took days for someone to conduct an intake interview, and the person assigned to administer my intake questionnaire failed to show up for our meeting. When I brought this to their attention, I had to make a last-minute appointment through the phone which is rather hypocritical given their attendance policy. After the intake, it took them a couple of days to assign me a therapist, which is acceptable. However, the problem persisted when the assigned therapist failed to respond to my emails regarding availability. When I emailed them again to inquire about my schedule, they never bothered to respond. This behavior is unacceptable and unprofessional, and it is frustrating for people who are already hesitant to seek therapy.
